Christopher Boland, a farmer, son of Christopher Boland, a farmer married Margaret
Munnelly born in Co Mayo, daughter of Patrick Munnelly on 4 Aug 1880 at Ballina. The
family were living at Carraun, Castleconnor, Sligo in 1901. Christopher died circa 1903
and Margaret was living at 15 Sallymount Avenue, Leeson Park, Ranelagh by 1909. She
took in lodgers and she was still living there in 1915.

2 Eleanor Teresa Boland eldest daughter married Frederick Denis Mangan, son of
John Mangan of Peachville House, Sandymount Avenue at the Church of her Lady
of Refuge in Rathmines on 26 Apr 1909.
3 Christy Boland born circa 1889 in Sligo was a commercial traveller living at 12
Ranelagh Avenue. He died a bachelor at St Brendan’s Hospital on 30 Jul 1961.
4 Mary (Mollie) born circa 1891 in Sligo. She had married a Mr Daly by 1960.
5 Kate Anne born circa 1885 in Sligo married Patrick Killeen, constable with the DMP and
son of Martin Killeen, a farmer on 21 Aug 1919 at the Church of her Lady of Refuge in
Rathmines.
6 Margaret Boland born circa 1892, Co Sligo, lived at 12 Ranelagh Ave She died a spinster
on 30 Dec 1960 at St Kevin’s Hospital.
7 Winifred born circa 1893, Co Sligo married George Leslie Dextor an insurance broker and
widower on 3 Feb1926 at the Church of her Lady of Refuge in Rathmines.
8 William (Willie) Boland youngest son born 24 Apr 1894 at Castleconor, Co Sligo. He
married Alice M Lemass on 14 Mar 1928 at the University Church on Stephens Green. Alice
was the daughter of John Lemass and Frances Phelan of 2 Capel Street. She was the sister
of John (Jack) Lemass who fought in the 1916 rising, was a member of de Valera’s first
cabinet, Minister for Industry and Commerce in every Fianna Fáil government between 1932
and 1959, and was Taoiseach from 1959 to 1966. She was a medical practitioner taking her
degree in 1925. She worked at St Vincent’s Hospital and then at Macclesfield as a medical
office before she returned to Dublin to work as Medical Officer to the Dublin Union. They
lived at Dommartin Lodge where Alice died on 28 Dec 1940 from TB. De Valera attended her
funeral at Holy Cross Dundrum and she was buried at Glasnevin Cemetery.
9 William was an Insurance Broker and MD of Messrs MacDonagh Boland, Insurance Brokers.
He was a director of the Irish Assurance Company which became Irish Life Assurance
Company. In 1954 Irish Estates (a subsidiary of Irish Life) bought Simmonscourt Castle on
17 acres in Ballsbridge from the executors of stockbroker, John McCann. They paid such a
high price (62.5K) for the site that the only way to turn a profit was to build apartments on
the site. They converted the house to into 4 apartments and built 4 blocks of apartments,
they also sold off 12 acres to the RDS. William died at Apt 1, Simmonscourt Castle on
4 Jan 1960. His funeral was at the Sacred Heart Church in Donnybrook and he was buried
at Glasnevin.
