George gives his address as Rackett Hall, site of the Roscrea Brewery and Sarah, a native of Bath and
youngest daughter of Mr Sayce, brewer of Bath. Shortly have their marriage, they built Monaincha
House. His brother Richard was a lawyer, his brother Timothy was a local JP and his sister Mary
married Patten Smith. Sarah died at Monaincha on 4 Jan 1851 aged 82.
1 George Birch born circa 1799 married Marion Roe, eldest daughter of the Rev William Roe,
Rector of Roscrea and Vicar-General of Clonfert and Kilmacduagh on 2 Jul 1847 at Roscrea.
George was a director of Roscrea Brewery. George died 22 Feb 1878 at Monaincha, Roscrea
aged 78 from Smallpox.
1 George Henry Birch born circa 1850 died unmarried from Smallpox on 9 Feb 1878
aged 27.
2 Harriette Frances Birch born August 1851 married Rev Richard Miller son of late
Charles Miller of Rosney, Gleangeary on 5 Sep 1894 at the Parish of Roscrea.
Harriette died 17 Dec 1933 at Monaincha.
3 William Birch born August 1852 living with his sister Harriette Miller at Monaincha
in 1901.
4 Daughter Birch born 23 Jun 1853
5 Ludlow Robert Coote Birch joined the army and attained the rank of Major. He was
living with his sister Harriett Miller at Monaincha in 1911.

2 Emily Birch born circa 1801 died a spinster at Birch Grove, Roscrea aged 78.
3 Henry Birch born circa 1806 was the third son of George Birch, a merchant of Monaincha,
Roscrea, Co Tipperary. He attended Trinity then Middle Temple and was called to the Irish bar
in 1829. He married Harriette Sarah Sayce, daughter of John Sayce of Cote at Westbury on
Tryn, Gloucester on 4 Aug 1831. He leased Drommartin Castle from Emily Dawson in 1844.
He became a magistrate of County Dublin in 1852. He was church warden for Taney in various
years between 1849 to 1874 and was a Governor of Mercers Hospital from 1862. The couple
had no children but Henry had a black and tan terrier and spent his spare time trout fishing.
Harriette died 8 Sep 1874 at Drummartin aged 68. In 1879 the house contents were put up for
sale as the lease had run out and Henry moved back to Roscrea and lived with his nephew
William Birch at Monaincha where he died 4 Jul 1882 aged 76. It is presumed that he was
buried in the family plot at the ancient Monaincha Abbey on Holy Island of Loch Cré which the
Birch family applied for exclusive burial rights as it was on their land.
4 James Sayce Birch born circa 1809, youngest son married Mary Warburton, youngest daughter
of the late Richard Warburton of Garryhinch, Kings County and niece of Dowager Lady Carden
at Corbally Church, county Tipperary on 10 Jul 1855. James was a JP and a director of the
Roscrea Brewery as well as a guardian for the Roscrea Union. In the 1850 after the failure of
the brewery he was involved in the flax growing industry. He died at Birchgrove on 6 Feb 1881
aged 83. Mary died 23 Mar 1911aged 89 both are buried at Monaincha Abbey.
1 Mary Emily Birch, only daughter, born 2 May 1856 at Birchgrove married Joseph William
Thacker, JP, son of Archdeacon Thacker on 15 Jul 1886 at St Cronan's Church.
2 Edward Robert Birch, eldest son, born circa 1858. A civil engineer he married Mary
Catherine Roberta Thompson on Johnstown Church the only child of Robert Thompson,
MD, of Melross, Johnstown on 26 Oct 1877. Edward died 22 Apr 1910 aged 52 at Birch
Grove and Mary died 2 Jun 1915 aged 54 at Birch Grove.
3 James Richard Kemmis Birch, second son born 12 Jan 1858 at Birchgrove attended Royal
Military College, Sandhurst. He attained the rank of Major in 1902. He served in the
Soudan and was severely wounded at Suakim. He was Inspector of Army Signalling for
Madras and Bombay. He died at Beacon Street, Lichfield in April 1907.
4 Captain Henry George Birch born 19 May 1859 at Birchgrove attended Royal Military
College, Sandhurst died 16 Oct 1896 at Roscrea of Typhoid.
