William Betty born circa 1792 son of William and Judith Betty graduated Trinity and took Holy
orders. His parents lived at Granby Row, Rutland Square where his father died in 1820 and
his mother in 1821. He married Catherine Henrietta Kemmis at St Thomas' Church, Dublin on
27.03.1828. Catherine was the second daughter of the late Joshua Kemmis of Knightstown,
Queens County. Upon their marriage the name Kemmis was prefixed to Betty. William had
land at Templeport, Co Cavan, Gibbinstown, Co Kildare and he was rector of Kilbride, Co
Meath. His town residence was 32 Rutland Square and they also lived at Knightstown,
Oldcastle. The family lived at Chesterfield from 1835 to 1838. In 1845 William forgave arrears
and allowed his tenants a 25% reduction in rent. William died in Paris on 19.07.1851 late of
Rutland Square. Catherine died 03.03.1874 at 53 Boulevard Malesherbes in Paris. Probate

1 Catherine Harriet Kemmis-Betty of Rutland Square baptised on 01.06.1829 at St Mary’s
Church, Dublin. Catherine eldest daughter married Pierce Simpson on 23.01.1847 at
the British Embassy, Paris. Pierce of Cloncorrick Castle was a JP and DL, and was the
son of Edward Simpson.
2 William Thomas Kemmis-Betty of 32 Rutland Square baptised 12.06.1830 at St Mary’s
Church, Dublin. Educated at Cheltenham College he joined the 6th Dragoon Guards
serving in the Crimean War and the Indian Mutiny Campaign and William attained the
rank of Colonel. William married Cordelia Frances Hughes daughter of William John
Marjoribanks Hughes on 03.06.1865 at Marylebone. They were living at 21 Hyde Park
Gate South in 1874. William died 28.11.1889 aged 59 years at 13 Grosvenor Square
London.
3 Maria Kemmis-Betty 2nd daughter born circa 19.09.1831 at 32 Rutland Square. Maria
died on 15.02.1857 aged 25 years at Calais, France late of 32 Rutland Square and was
buried at Montmarte, Paris. Probate granted to her mother Catherine.
4 Colonel Joshua Frederick Kemmis-Betty born 17.08.1833 at Rutland Square married
Sarah Elizabeth Medlycott eldest daughter of Sir William Coles Medlycott of Ven,
Somerset on 23.05.1863 at Milborne Park, Somerset. Sarah died on 27.03.1915 of
Lauragh, Sandhurst. Probate to son Captain Harry Mervyn.
1 Florence Maria Kemmis Betty born circa 1868. Florence of the Potteries,
Wickham Road, Fareham, Hampshire died on 25.08.1940 in Hampshire. Probate
to sister Kathleen.
2 Lieut Harry Mervyn Kemmis Betty RN born 02.06.1869 married Catherine Jane
Henrietta Anderson daughter of Robert Carew Anderson on 28.01.1902 at Holy
Trinity Church, Weymouth, Dorset. Harry of Yew Tree Cottage, Kilmeston,
Alresford, Hampshire died 22.12.1940. Probate to widow Katherine.
3 Kathleen Frances Kemmis-Betty born 25.03.1871 Swansea, Glamorgan, Wales.
Kathleen died on 18.02.1956 at Monksdene Nursing Home, Weymouth, Dorsetshire.
4 Captain Paget Kemmis-Betty RE 3rd son born circa 1877 Woolwich. Paget married
Frances Enid Gwenllyan Bishop only surviving child of Judge Bishop of Delygarreg,
Llandovery, Carmarthenshire on 08.09.1910 at the Parish Church of Llangadock.
5 Lieutenant Arthur Kemmis-Betty RN born circa 1877 Southsea, Hampshire. Arthur
married Ethel Beatrix Mary Ellen Agar daughter of A.P. Agar of the Indian Police on
19.01.1911 at St James’s, Spanish Place.
5 Rowland Veitch Kemmis-Betty born 17.09.1838 at 32 Rutland Square baptised at St Mary’s
Church, Dublin. Rowland of the 2nd Dragoon Guards married Lydia Mary Green elder
daughter of J S Green of Houghton-le-Spring, Durham on 19.05.1864 at the Parish Church,
Houghton-le-Spring. Lydia died on 02.07.1882 aged 43 years late of Leyton, Essex.
Rowland a widower married Ellen Louisa Wicks on 20.09.1883 at the Parish Church of St
George, Camberwell in Surrey. Rowland died on 30.08.1893 aged 54 years of 20 Paddington
Green, Middlesex. Probate to wife Ellen.
