Michael Charles Bernard of Dundrum 3rd son of William Bernard married Jane Leigh youngest
daughter of John Leigh of Rose Villa, County Dublin. The Bernard family lived at Elm Lawn from
1849 to 1922.

weeks and was buried on 08.02.1843 at Taney Graveyard.
2 William Leigh Bernard eldest son born on 01.01.1845 and baptised at Taney Church married
Mary Morton eldest and only surviving child of George Thos Morton of Fortown, Wicklow on
09.01.1866 at Trinity Church Rathmines. William was called to the English Bar in 1883 and
enrolled an Advocate and Notary Public of North West Territories of Canada in 1888.

William died on 19.05.1911 aged 66 and Mary died on 04.12.1928 aged 88 years. Their son
Michael died on 16.08.1937 and they are buried at Union Cemetery in Calgary.
3 Rachel Isabel Bernard eldest daughter born on 21.10.1846 and baptised at Taney Church
married Joseph St Clair Mayne eldest son of James Arthur Mayne Solicitor of Aughnamalllagh
House, Monaghan on 04.08.1869 at Taney Church.
1 Anna Caroline Bradley Mayne infant daughter born 04.04.1870 prematurely and died
07.04.1870 aged 3 days at Springmount, Dundrum.
Rachel died on 09.03.1912 aged 65 years at Cullenswood Lodge. Joseph married Maria Eleanor
Craig daughter of Thomas Manifold Craig of Rockmount House on 31.12.1913 at St John’s
Church,Woolwick. Joseph died on 07.01.1915 aged 65 years at Cullenswood Lodge.
4 Sarah Maria Elizabeth Bernard born on 02.07.1849 at Elm Lawn and baptised at Taney Church.
Sarah was a member of the Dublin Naturalist's Field Club and on the Dundrum Committee of
the Red Cross society. She was in favour of Women's Suffrage and attended the meeting at which
Lady Betty Balfour spoke in 1910. She was also the proprietress of a Home for Ladies in
Dundrum and died unmarried on 01.11.1922 aged 75 years at Elm Lawn.
5 Godfrey Mayne Bernard born on 11.05.1851 and baptised at Taney Church. Godfrey died on
16.04.1870 at Dundrum aged 19 years.
6 Charles John Bernard* born on 31.07.1853 in Dundrum and baptised at Taney Church. Charles
married Annie Elizabeth Rainey eldest daughter of William Bames Rainey of Hogsthorpe on
28.01.1879 at St Mary’s Church, Hogathorpe. The couple lived at Skegness, Spilsby, Lincolnshire
in 1901 with their five children. Charles was a surgeon and physician and moved to
Walthamstow, London. Annie remained in Skegness running a B and B/Boarding House.
Charles died in London in 1921. Annie died 29 Jun 1941 at Toynton Lodge, probate to her son
Ralph.

2 Charles Cecil Leigh Bernard born 1883 at Skegness, Lincolnshire. He was a chef and
married Charlotte Ethel Lowrie on 27 Sep 1905 at Newcastle upon Tyne. He enlisted
and served with the RAF in WW1. He was demobbed in 1919 in receipt of a pension.
He died in 1962 at Folkestone, Kent

3 Gladys Eleanor Bernard born 1886 baptised 25 Apr 1886 at Skegness, Lincolnshire.
4 Victor Bernard born 22 Jun 1887 at Skegness, Lincolnshire. In 1939 he was unmarried
and ran a poultry farm and Tearooms with his brother at Toynton Lodge, Spilsby.
5 Hilton Bernard born 1889 at Skegness, Lincolnshire. He enlisted and served with the
Middlesex Regiment during WW1. He was killed in action on 8 Mar 1918 and was
buried at Hooge Crater Cemetery in Belgium.
6 Francis William Claude (Claude) Bernard born circa 1892 at Skegness, Lincolnshire.
He married May Elizabeth Wade of Oakham on 23 Dec 1916. Francis died on
2 Dec 1917 at Harrington Gardens, Skegness and was buried at St Clement's graveyard.

7 Ralph Bernard born 29 Mar 1893 at Skegness, Lincolnshire. In 1939 he was
unmarried and ran a poultry farm and Tearooms at Toynton Lodge, Spilsby.
7 Louisa Jane Victoria Bernard born on 04.09.1855 and baptised at Taney Church. Louisa died on
05.11.1887 aged 32 years at Elm Lawn. Sister Sarah present at death.
8 Joseph St Clair Smith Bernard born on 20.01.1858 and baptised at Taney Church. Joseph died
on 27.10.1930 in Queensland.
9 Eleanor Frances Henrietta (Nellie) Bernard youngest daughter born on 13.06.1860 and
baptised at Taney Church. Elinor married James Gilchris Macansh 4th son of Hon John D
Macansh on 22.10.1884 at Greendale Station, Tambo, Australia. Her marriage was
celebrated at Elm Lawn with a 'musical - at home' arranged by her sister Sarah and her
mother.
10 Adeliza Susan Mary Wilhelmi Bernard born on 04.05.1863 and baptised at Taney Church.
Adeliza of Elm Lawn died aged 1 year and 9 days was buried on 15.05.1864 at Taney.
11 Anna Travers Crofton Bernard born on 25.12.1865 at Elm Lawn and baptised at Taney Church.
Anna died on 14.03.1876 aged 10 years in Dundrum.
12 Henry Hilton Bernard born on 03.07.1868 and baptised at Taney Church. Henry Hilton a medical
student died of Scarlatina on 12.12.1887 aged 19 years at the Adelaide Hospital.
