Charles Bennett born circa 1809 was an auctioneer of 14 Dame Street in 1854 and at 6
Upper Ormond-quay in 1856. He married Elizabeth Cavendish, youngest daughter of
Captain James Cavendish and Maria of Clontarf on 5 Jul 1831 at St Werburgh. He employed
Edward Henry Carson, architect to design a house for him at Ballybride, Shankhill in the
1860s. The builders were Maurice & Patrick Joseph Tracy of Morehampton Road. Elizabeth
died at Ballybride, Shankill on 17 Dec 1867 aged 53 and was buried at Mount Jerome.

5 James Cavendish Bennett born 26 Jun 1838 baptised at St Werburgh. As eldest son, he
married Susan Mary Elizabeth Boulger, daughter of Percy Nihill Boulger of Mount Talent,
Harold’s Cross, and granddaughter of Major Pierce O’Keefe Boulger at Rathfarnham Parish
Church on 2 Aug 1866. He was an auctioneer and valuer. They had 10 children, 9 of
whom were alive in 1911.

2 Louisa Elizabeth (Louie) Bennett born 7 Jan 1870 was a suffragette, trade unionist,

daughter of James Ganley, auctioneer of Eblana Tce and Ushers Quay at the Presbyterian
Church on Ormond Quay on 7 Jan 1862. He was an auctioneer and sales master with the
firm of Ganley, Son, Parker and Bennett in 1870. He died 5 Sep 1870 late of Kenilworth
Square at Aurora Cottage, Bray and left 2K in personal estate.

parents in Mount Jerome.

11 Isabella Sarah Emma Bennett born 13 Oct 1853 baptised at St Werburgh. Bella died
at Ballybride, Shankhill on 26 Oct 1867 aged 14 and was buried at Mount Jerome.
12 Annie Harriet Bennett born 9 Sep 1854 baptised at St Werburgh. Annie, a spinster
was living with her brother James in 1901 at Killiney.
13 Lora Bennett youngest daughter born 21 Feb 1859 baptised at St Peters Church,
Sandford. Of Mountainview, Rathgar, she married Andrew Armstrong of Lower
Abbey Street and Kylemore Tce, Rathgar son of Andrew Armstrong, a merchant at
Rathfarnham church on 12 Oct 1881. They lived at Hollywood, Carrickmines from
1891 to 1909. Andrew was a JP and MD of A Armstrong & Co, paper merchants. He
died 7 May 1909 at the Elpis Hospital, Lower Mount Street and left personal estate of
27K.

Mount Jerome.
*His unmarried niece was Rosanna Brooke and she died 2 Oct 1916 at a Dublin nursing
home at 67 Leeson Street age 70. His sister Jane, a spinster died in 1874.
