James Armstrong a Presbyterian minister lived at 32 Hardwicke Street. He was the Minister of
Strand Street, Dublin. He married Mary Allman on the 26 Sep 1810 at Overton near Bandon.
Mary was the second daughter of George Allman and Mary Clugston. Her father was the owner
of the Overton Cotton Mills and she grew up at Overton House. The University of Geneva
conferred the degree of doctor of divinity on the Rev James Armstrong, pastor of the Presbyterian
congregation of Strand-street, Dublin in 1834. He published a sermon ‘The sin against the
Holy Ghost’ in 1836. He died on 4 Dec 1839 while attending a bridal breakfast party and was
buried at Mount Jerome. Mary died 2 Dec 1862 at 31 Hardwicke Street and was buried with
her husband.
1 John Armstrong eldest son born 16 Jul 1812. He was educated at Trinity graduating in
1833, Grey Inn 1835 and Kings Inns 1837. He was President of the Dublin Historical Society
for the year 1834/1835 at its inception, and was on the Committee of the Irish Unitarian
Christian Society in 1848/9. He married Mary Litton, eldest daughter of James Litton of
Kilcoskan Co Dublin on 30 Jul 1844 at Strand Street Meeting House. Mary was the sister
of Nina who had married Joseph Wilson of Westbury & Clonmore. John died at Clonmore
on 10 Oct 1874 and Mary died 14 Nov 1896 at Clonmore aged 81.
2 George Allman Armstrong second son born 4 Sep 1815 called to the Irish Bar in 1833
but did not practice, instead he became a minister of the Unitarian Church for nearly
50 years. He married Sarah Allman on 24 Oct 1844 at Bandon. Sarah was the
second daughter of James Clugston Allman. Rev George died 10 Mar 1889 at 8
Leeson Park and was buried at Mount Jerome. Sarah died 4 Jun 1897 aged 81 at 8
Leeson Park and was buried at Mount Jerome.

2 James Armstrong, eldest son born 28 Oct 1846 was a surgeon to her Majesty's
Bengal, Army. He married Mona Margaret Kingsley on 22 Non 1878 at St Peters
Church, Fortwilliam, Calcutta. Mona was the daughter of Thomas Kingsley of Calcutta.

3 George Allman Armstrong born 20 Apr 1850 at 3 Cabragh Terrace baptised at
Eustace Street. He graduated Trinity College, Dublin, in 1873 and then spent a one
year apprenticeship with James Price, engineer in chief of the Midland Great
Western Railway. He was resident engineer on the Edenderry branch of the railway
until its opening in 1876. His next appointment was as a district engineer of the
Great Northern Railway, a post which he still held in 1880. He was living at 8 Leeson
Park in 1884. He was living at Knockbrogan, Cork in 1911 and died a bachelor on
22 Jan 1920 at Ardnacarrig, Bandon.
4 Annie Armstrong third daughter born 28 Dec 1851 at Cabragh Terrace died on
the 23 Dec 1908 at 69 Upper Leeson Street.
5 Lucie Anne Armstrong born circa 1856 died a spinster on 27 Dec 1914 at 69 upper
Leeson Street.
6 John Armstrong youngest son graduated MB, TCD and died 1 Jan 1892 at Portsmouth,
Dominica, West Indies.
