Thomas Archer born 17.03.1871 at Culligan, Co Tyrone son of Charles Archer and Jane
Robinson. He was a saw mill manager and married Emily Erskine on 05.06.1895 at the
Registrar's Office, Armagh. Emily was the daughter of Robert Erskine of Fassagh, Keady
Parish, Armagh. In 1901 he was a timber merchant and the family identified as Plymouth
Brethren. By 1910 he was the proprietor of City of Dublin Steam Saw Mills and had premises
at New Wapping Street, North Wall, Dublin. From here he sold architraves, doors, frames,
floorings and also supplied nails, bricks, slates, tiles and cement. They lived at Beaufield
from 1905 to 1918 and at Airfield, Stillorgan Road from 1922 to 1928. By 1912 Thomas
also had a builders providers in Ballina. By 1922 they had outlets at Lower Kevin Street and
Amiens Street. Emily died 08.03.1952 at Hermitage, Blackrock and is buried at Deansgrange.
Thomas died at Lisalea, Blackrock, the residence of his son on 21.05.1956. His funeral service
was held at Sydney Hall, South Hill Park and he is buried with his wife.
1 Albert Erskine Carson Archer eldest son born 02.03.1896 at Victoria Terrace, Coleraine.
Flight Commander of the Royal Flying Corps was killed in action on 09.02.1916 aged 19
years when his machine nose dived returning from the German Lines. His machine landed
in a ploughed field, close to the Aerodrome at Wizernes and close to St Omer in France and
he is buried at Longuenesse Souvenir Cemetery. His parents were resident at Beaufield,
Stillorgan when he was killed. He is remembered on Ireland's National Roll Of Honour.
2 Olive Emily Patricia Archer born 17.03.1898 at South Richmond Street. She married Dr
Patrick Kerr Dixon in Elisabethville, Congo in 1926. Patrick born in Wales was the son of
Professor Andrew Francis Dixon, lecturer in anatomy and Dean of the Medical school at
Trinity College, Dublin and Margaret Kerr Johnston. Olive died from blood poisoning on
23 Apr 1927 at Chibambo Mission Station, Elizabethville, Belgian Congo, Central Africa.
Patrick remarried and died 21 Apr 1955 aged 56 in Lusaka, Rhodesia.
3 Charles Edward Victor Archer born 13.07.1901 (2.45am) at Carlisle Avenue, Donnybrook.
He was resident at Airfield, Donnybrook when he married Ellen (Nellie) Young on 24.10.1922
at Merrion Hall, Dublin. Ellen born circa 1893 was the daughter of Joseph Young Charles,
timber merchant. He moved into property letting and management with business premises
at 22 Ely Place in 1939. They lived at Pembroke House and put it up for sale in 1952. Thomas,
his father died at Lisalea in 1956 and Audrey his daughter got married from Lisalea. Charles
died 14.05.1963.
4 Thomas Ernest James Archer born 13.07.1900 (3.00am) at Carlisle Avenue. He was resident
at Airfield, Donnybrook when he married Barbara Marie Fry on 20.06.1928 at Merrion
Hall, Dublin. Barbara born 1.08.1905 daughter of William Houghton Fry and Marie Fry of
Ailesbury Park, Merrion.
5 David Turner Archer born 13.03.1903 at Ashdale Road, Terenure. He was resident at Airfield,
Donnybrook when he married Sheelagh Eveleen McMunn daughter of Lieut Col Andrew
McMunn on 04.01.1928 at Merrion Hall, Dublin. Sheelagh died on 28.01.1976.
6 Annie Rosetta Florence Archer born 14.06.1905 at Beaufield, Stillorgan. She was resident at
Airfield, Donnybrook when she married William Michael a medical student of Old Court, Bray
son of Thomas Michael on 09.03.1927 at the Registrar’s Office, Dublin.
7 Doreen Constance Marguerite Archer youngest daughter born 19.05.1909 at Beaufield,
Stillorgan. She was resident at Maretimo when she married William Dinwoodie Speedy a
medical doctor of Elgin Road, Ballsbridge son of Thomas Speedy & Agnes Dinwoodie on
23.12.1930 at Merrion Hall, Dublin.
8 Aubrey Howard Leslie Archer born 2 May 1912 at Beaufield. He was resident at Hermitage,
Blackrock when he married Frances Charlotte Rosalind Northridge on 24.10.1938 at St
Andrew’s Church, Dublin. Frances was the daughter of Rev Robert Northridge of Chesterfield,
Blackrock.
