William Andrew Wylie born circa 1800. It was of Little Ballymena and married Jane Beatty on
8 Jan 1836. Jane was the daughter of John Beattie of Ballynure. They lived at Rushvale,
Ballyclare, Co Antrim. William died 14 Aug 1881 at Rushvale and was interred at Ballynure.
Jane died 29 Jun 1884 at Rushvale.
1 William Wylie born circa 1837 was a the minister of the Downshire Road Presbyterian
Church in Newry. He married Elizbeth Parker at Monkstown on 13 Feb 1867 and they
had two children. Elizabeth was the daughter of Samuel Parker, a merchant of
Kingstown. Elizabeth died in 1914 and William died in 1919 at Holywood.
2 Agnes Beattie Wylie eldest daughter born circa 1838 married James Moore of Rock
House, Kilbride on 18 May 1865 at Carnmoney Presbyterian Church. She died a widow
on 2 Mar 1931 at Heatherleigh, Carrickfergus.
3 John Beattie Wylie born circa 1841. He married Jane McBride in Belfast on 24 Jun 1862
and had at least nine children. Jane was the eldest daughter of Thomas McBride. He
was a presbyterian minister based at Macrory Memorial Presbyterian Church Belfast
and they lived at Glenburn, Holywood. He died in January 1919.
4 Robert Beatty Wylie born circa 1844 was a minister at the 3rd Presbyterian Church in
Coleraine from 1871 to 1913. He married Marion Drury 28 Nov 1878 at Dartry, Dublin
and they had two children. Marion was living at Dartry and was the daughter of Thomas
Drury, a Merchant.
1 Ida Marion Wylie born 25 Aug 1879 at Winton Avenue, Rathgar.
2 William Evelyn Wylie born 25 Jun 1881 at Kenilworth House, Rathmines. He
married Ida M Moloney in 1912 in London. Ida was the daughter of John Moloney
of Dungarvan. William was a barrister, legal advisor to Dublin Castle, judge of the
High Court in Ireland and president of the Royal Dublin Society. They lived at 7
Upper Fitzwilliam Street, the house formerly occupied by his uncle James Wylie.
They moved to Sandymount before moving to their newly purchased stud farm;
Clonsilla House. Ida died on 27 Sep 1950 and William sold Clonsilla House. William
died on 12 Oct 1964 at a Dublin nursing home.
5 James Owen Wylie fifth son born circa 1845. He was educated at the Royal Academical
Institute and Queen’s College, Belfast and called to the Irish Bar in 1872. He was one of
the first legal Assistant Commissioners appointed under the Land Act of 1881 and was
author of a work on the Judicature Acts which became a standard textbook. He married
Nellie Jordon Denton Price on 11 Aug 1887 at Barras Bridge Presbyterian Church, Newcastle.
Nell was the daughter of John Price, JP of Newcastle on Tyne and of Palmers Shipbuilding.
They spent their honeymoon in Switzerland. James took silk in 1894 and a bencher of the
Kings Inns in 1905. He was appointed head judge of the land Commission in 1906. They
lived at 7 Upper Fitzwilliam Street and moved to Elms, Mount Merrion Avenue in 1910,
leaving in 1919 when James was created a member of the Privy Council. He was a judge of
the Supreme Court until he retired in 1920. He acted as Lord Justice for the Government of
Ireland when the Lord Lieutenant was absent. Nell died 1 Nov 1933 at Sidmonton, Devon
aged 68 and left 25k in personal estate. James died 13 Dec 1935 at Winchester.
1 John Price Wylie eldest son born 1889 in Northern Ireland served with the Sherwood
Foresters and attained the rank of major. In 1917 he was wounded three times,
gassed and was awarded the DSO. He married Barbara Clark on 8 Jul 1918 at St
Paul's Knightsbridge. Barbara was the daughter of Captain Jeffery Clark. John died
in Winchester on 27 Aug 1939.
1 William Jeffery Price Wylie only son born 1919 married Dorothy Primrose
Needham-Davies on 21 Dec 1940 at Euston Parish Church, Thetford. He was
a captain with the Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was serving with the No
2 Commando Unit when he was killed in a flying accident on 15 Dec 1943.
He was survived by his widow Primrose and son Hugh.
2 Arthur William Wylie born 20 Jun 1892 at Upper Fitzwilliam Street. He was a law
student living at Elms, Mount Merrion Avenue in 1911. He enlisted and served as a
lieutenant 2nd Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. He was killed in action by a sniper
during the assault on Neuve Chapelle Western Front on 10 Mar 1915. He is
remembered on Ireland’s National Roll of Honour and at Rue-Petillon Military
Cemetery, Fleurbaix.
3 Frank James Wylie born 24 Sep 1896 at Kinvara, Greystones. He joined the navy and
saw service during WW1. He was based in Portsmouth in 1921.
6 Dr Matthew Wylie born circa 1850 in Co Antrim. He was crown solicitor of Co Down and
married Louise Cuthbert on the 18 Apr 1905. Louise was some 20 years his junior and the
daughter of Joseph Cuthbert. They were living at Osborne Park, Belfast in 1911 and had no
children. Matthew died at Osborne Park in 1927.
7 Mary Wylie as last surviving child died unmarried on 1 May 1940 at Ingleby, Mount Pleasant,
Belfast.
8 Caroline (Carrie) Wylie, youngest daughter born circa 1858 married Rev Robert W R Rentoul
of Darlington on 10 Mar 1881 at her father’s residence and the marriage was registered in
Antrim. Robert was the son of Rev James B Rentoul. They were living in Clonmel in 1911.
Carrie died on 24 Apr 1927 at the Manse, Castledawson, the residence of her son.
