Clonmel
Morgan Jones eldest son of Sir Richard Jones, brother of Colonel George Jones of Kilkenny and
one of his 23 children. His father died in January 1824 and he took over the residency of the
house at the Quay, Clonmel. He was a collector under the board of Inland Revenue. He held
land in the parishes of Clogher and Clonoulty, barony of Kilnamanagh Lower, Co Tipperary in the
mid 19th century. In the 1840s and 50s, he had a house at Russell Place, Dublin. Morgan of
Regaile House died on 18 Mar 1862 at Clonmel. He was interred in the family burial ground at
Clonoulty, Co Tipperary. His son William of Hollyville Park, Monkstown, Co Dublin was his
executor and inherited the land.
1 Elizabeth Jane Jones eldest daughter married Charles Napier North in 28 Dec 1841 at St
George’s Church, Dublin. Lt Col Charles Napier North was stationed in Malta as an
instructor of musketry in 1855 and at the Tower of London in 1863. Elizabeth is
mentioned in the will of her grandfather Sir Robert Jones.
1 Roger Charles Edward North was living at 60 The Common, Woolwich in 1895
and was a major in the Royal Artillery. Roger died 15 Jun 1897 at Surrey.
2 Jane O’Brien Jones of Clonmel born circa 1820, a spinster in 1853 mentioned in the will of
her grandfather Sir Robert Jones. She lived at 5 Russell Place and later at Tudor House.
She died 10 Jan 1910 at Kingstown. She mentions her sister Mary Cuthbert and her
nephews Morgan and Richard Jones who emigrated to Australia circa 1875.
3 Richard Jones eldest son born circa 1821 took Holy orders. He was curate at Youghel Arrs,
Co Tipperary and died there on 19 Nov 1845.
4 William Robertson Jones born 13 Nov 1825, educated at Trinity and admitted Kings Inns was
called to the bar in 1849. As only son born he married Mary Millbank circa 1846. He
worked at Belmont school for John Smyth as headmaster at Belmont School and
opened Hollyville Park School at Newtown Park in 1855. He moved the school to
Monkstown close to the church in 1860. As at Belmont he encouraged parents to visit the
school. He understood that the boys also needed to enjoy themselves at sports as well as
education and religion, so provided a cricket pitch at the school. Mary died aged 36 on
29 Dec 1862 at Hollyville Park, Monkstown and was buried at Glasnevin.
1 William Robertson Jones baptised 5 Oct 1847 at St Nicholas RC Church died in
Montreal in 1892.
2 Richard Jones baptised 22 Jan 1849 at St Nicholas RC Church.
3 Mary Alice Jones eldest daughter. She was living at Hollyville Park, Monkstown and
married Thomas Ardagh on 24 Apr 1872 at St Mary’s Donnybrook. Thomas of India
Villa, Sandymount was the son of Captain Thomas Ardagh a captain in the India Army
and a commissary of Ordnance Madras.
4 Jane Emily Jones born circa 1855 lived with her step brother Horace in 1911. She died a
spinster in 1934 at Adelaide Street, Dun Laoghaire. She was buried with Horace at
Deansgrange.
5 Elizabeth Jones born 3 Oct 1859 at Seapoint Manor baptised at Blackrock.
William secondly married Amelia Florence Kilgray on 1865 at St Mark’s, Dublin. Amelia was
living at 17 Westland Row and daughter of Paget and Mary Kilgray. Her father was a waiter at
Abbott's Hotel on Sackville Street. William was executor to his uncle George Jones in 1872.
William of Tudor House, Monkstown, Co Dublin, owned 2,493 acres in county Tipperary in 1876.
The school was very successful as were the cricket teams. In 1879 he leased Hollyville School to
Rev James Rice. William died 21 Mar 1885 at Tudor House, Monkstown, his son Herbert the
informant ad was buried at Deansgrange. He left 4k in personal estate, his wife Amelia his
executor. Amelia died 3 Jul 1909 aged 68 at Tudor House and left 12k in personal estate. She
was buried with her husband.
6 Herbert William Jones fifth son born 29 May 1866 at Hollyville Park, Monkstown. He
was hon sec of Eaton FC on Silchester Road (later called Monkstown FC on Tivioli Road)
in 1883. He graduated Trinity and was called to the bar in 1891. He was living at Royal
Terrace East and married Mary Georgina Evans on 26 Jun 1895 at St Paul’s, Glenageary.
Mary of Crosthwaite Park was the daughter of the late Tyrrell Evans, bank manager, of
Gortroe, Co Limerick. They were living in Kingstown in 1911 with their two children.
Herbert died from influenza on 11 Apr 1919 and was buried at Deansgrange with his
parents. Mary was living with her son in Devon in 1921.
1 Harold Paget Evans Jones born 3 Nov 1896 at Bellemont, The Hill, Kingstown.
He served with the Duke of Cornwalls Light Infantry during WW1. He married
Aileen Adeline D'Orange Price on 15 Sep 1919.
2 Inagh May Jones born 20 May 1909 at Belmont the Hill, Kingstown. She married
James Henry Methold at St Peters, Eaton Square, Pimlico in December 1933.
7 Norah Emily Jones born 23 May 1867 at Holyville Park, Monkstown died in 1869.
8 Harold Paget Jones born 12 Mar 1870 at Hollyville, Monkstown was a staff surgeon
with the Royal Navy. He married Yvonne Ingles of Inpasses de la Martingue on
1 Dec 1906 at the Protestant Church in Havre. Yvonne was the daughter of Minto M
Leopold N F Ingles. Harold was with the Fourth Cruiser Squadron, Palma Bay, Balearic
Islands in 1911. Harold died on 1 Jan 1935 at West Kensington, London. Probate to
his widow Yvonne Leonie Lucie Paget Jones.

9 Horace Lionel Jones born 9 Jul 1871 at Hollyville Park, Monkstown died on 28 Apr 1938
at the Langham Hotel, Portland Place London. His body was repatriated and he was
buried at Deansgrange. He left 19k in personal estate.
5 Marie Morgana Jones youngest surviving daughter born circa 1830 married Charles Davenport
Cuthbert on 24 Feb 1852 at Holycross Church. Charles was an architect/civil engineer and the
only son of William Hamilton Cuthbert, MD. He exhibited a design for proposed improvements
to the Carlisle Bridge at the Royal Dublin Society's Exhibition of Manufactures in 1850. They
emigrated to Australia in 1857 with their three children. Marie is mentioned in her sister Jane’s
will. Marie died 31 Oct 1859 at Ballarat.
1 Mary Emily Cuthbert born 24 Jul 1853 at North Frederick Street baptised at St Georges,
Dublin.
2 William Hamilton Cuthbert born 12 Jul 1855 at Sandymount baptised at St Georges.
