James Wright born circa 1786. He was a merchant and married Lucy Wardle on 10 Sep 1807
at Leeds. Lucy was the daughter of Mr Wardle, a liner draper of Leeds. James of Queen’s
Square, Leeds was the founder and one of the proprietors of James Wright & Co, Leeds
Woollen Hall, Corn Market by 1822 whilst residing in Leeds. Lucy died at Butterfield House,
Rathfarnham on 12 Jan 1835.
1 Edward Wright eldest son born circa 180 . He was a merchant of Marine Terrace,
Kingstown and married Eliza Anne Manning on 4 Dec 1845 at Rathdrum parish
church. Eliza was the only surviving daughter of the late Archibald H F Manning of
Green Anne, Co Wicklow. Edward ran the Leeds Woollen Hall after the death of his
father and traded as Edward Wright & Sons. He died on 22 May 1877 at Green Mount
Rathgar and was buried at Mount Jerome. He left 12k in personal estate. After his
death Edward Wright & Sons opened a Military and Merchant Tailors at 26
Westmoreland Street in conjunction with Leeds Woollen Hall. Eliza died 12 Oct 1887
at 23 Palmerston Road, Rathmines and was buried with her husband. Probate to her
son Archibald.
1 Archibald Manning Wright born circa 1853 graduated Trinity. He married
Fanny Helena Geoghegan on 19 May 1875 at St Philips. Fanny was the daughter
of Richard Geoghegan of Rathgar. He was a merchant tailor of Westmoreland
street in 1887. The business stopped advertising about this time. They had nine
children and Archie and his wife were living at Stillorgan Park in 1901 and later
they lived at Peafield, Blackrock. Archibald died 23 May 1917 and Fannie died
13 Nov 1932. Both are buried at Deansgrange.
1 Edward Constable Wright eldest son born 21 Apr 1877 at Palmerston
Road. Lieut Col Edward Wright OBE died 28 Jun 1940 at Hythe, Kent.
9 Iverna Wright youngest daughter married Frederick G Brown on
12 Sep 1913. Frederick was with the 101 Grenadiers (Indian Army) and
the son of Vere Ward Brown of Palmerston Park.
2 Lucy Wright born in 1817 died 1818 and was buried in Leeds.
3 Caroline Wright born circa 1819 married Hugh Carmichael junior in July 1840 at
Magheragall, Co Antrim. Hugh of Sackville Street was in partnership with Alfred
Gresham Jones. After their marriage they lived in various houses around the
Blackrock area. Hugh died on 30 Mar 1860 at Mountpleasant Square. Caroline as
last surviving daughter died 13 Apr 1869 at Eblana Cottage, Carysfort Avenue,
Blackrock and was buried at Mount Jerome.
1 Catherine Lucy Anne Carmichael born 5 Feb 1842 at Harcourt Street.
2 Jane Freeman Carmichael eldest daughter married Henry Dockrell on
24 Oct 1865 at Monkstown Church. Henry was a merchant and the son of
Thomas Dockrell, a merchant of Kingstown.
3 Jemasina Fredrica (Ina) Carmichael born circa 1852. As youngest surviving
daughter she married William Thomas Woolley on 11 Feb 1873 at Monkstown
Church. William was the only son of the late Rev William Harley Woolley of
Pangbourne, Berkshire.
1 Hugh Carmichael Woolley born 1878 died 19 Sep 1878 at Upper
Gloucester Street.
4 Richard Freeman Carmichael only surviving son married Catherine Jane Miller
on 16 Aug 1870 at the Abbey Presbyterian Church. Catherine was the second
daughter of Richard Miller of Limerick and niece of William Phayor of Corbally.
5 Frideswide Florence Emily Carmichael youngest child born circa 1855 died at
Donore, Isle of Man on 28 Jul 1861.
4 Frederick Wright born circa 1822 was living at Greenmount, Rathgar and married
Harriett Jenkinson on 4 Dec 1862 at Rathfarnham Church. Harriett was the daughter
of the late Robert Jenkinson of Newtownmountkennedy, Co Wicklow. Frederick died on
19 May 1870 at James’ Street late of 2 Ulverton Terrace, Dalkey. He was buried at
Mount Jerome and left 4k in personal estate.

2 Francis Wright born 29 Sep 1865 at 3 Ulverton Place, Dalkey.
5 Alfred Wright youngest son born circa 1824 died at 7 Marine Terrace Kingstown from
consumption in September 1845.
James secondly married Catherine Freeman at St Audoen’s on 23 Apr 1835. Catherine was the
third daughter of the late Richard Freeman of Rathfarnham. James was living at Butterfield
House, Rathfarnham from 1835 to 1843 and was at Lis-an-iskea by 1849 having spent some
years at 7 Marine Terrace, Kingstown. In 1849 James was a member of the Irish Manufacture
Movement and won the top three prizes for Irish manufactured Frieze at the RDS agricultural
Exhibition. He died 18 Feb 1853 at Lis-an-iskea. After his death, the household furniture and
outdoor goods were put up for sale. Catherine died aged 81 on 24 Mar 1869 at Donore,
Ballasalla, Isle of Man and was buried there.
