John Blackburn Lindsay born 1860 son of John Lindsay and Jane McDougall baptised at Croydon,
Surrey in 1861 grew up in Glasgow. He was a wholesale seed merchant when he married
Margaret Clare Cameron on 16 Oct 1900 at St Matthew’s Church, Glasgow. Margaret was the
elder daughter of Sir Hector C Cameron, Professor of Surgery at Glasgow University and
Frances Stoddard MacDonald. Margaret died 25 Apr 1902 at Kilncroft, Helensburgh in
Scotland.
John secondly married Mary Taylor. He set up a Dublin Company in 1925 making brushes, mops
and brooms from 33/35 Back Lane, Dublin. His older brother William died in Australia in 1929.
John died 18 May 1936 at Oaklands Park, Sandymount and late of Helensburgh, Glasgow. His
funeral service was held at St John’s Sandymount and he is buried at Deansgrange. Mary died
at Farney, Sandymount on 24 Mar 1956 aged 75. Her funeral service was held at Sandymount
Methodist Church and she and is buried with her husband.
1 David Blackburn Lindsay born circa 1906 was living at Oaklands Park when he married
Margaret Teresa (Gretta) O’Rourke on 10 Jan 1940 at University Church, Dublin.
Margaret was living at Sydney Parade and was the daughter of Matthias O’Rourke.
David was a director of J B Lindsay Ltd and they lived at 34 Lea Road, Sandymount. The
family are buried at Deansgrange.
2 Mary Jean Lindsay elder daughter born circa 1907 was living at Oaklands Park when she
married Francis Wilson Hirst on 9 Aug 1939 at Sandymount Methodist Church. Francis
was a manager living at 12 Serpentine Terrace and was the son of Francis William Hirst, a
building surveyor. The family lived at 5 Farney Park in Sandymount and are buried at
Deansgrange.
3 Younger daughter Lindsay fl 1936.
4 John Patrick Lindsay second son married Marion Emma Gale Hetherington. Marion was
the daughter of William Hetherington of Rathdowny, Co Leix. John was a director of J B
Lindsay Ltd. They lived at Durham Road, Sandymount.
5 William Lamont Crawford Lindsay born 3 Mar 1916 at 58 Calder Street, Pollockshields son
of John Blackburn Lindsay of Oaklands Park, Sandymount, Dublin. He was educated at
Kingstown Grammer School and played hockey for Corinthians and Leinster before he
made his senior international debut for Scotland against Ireland in Glasgow in 1938. He
took part in the 1948 Olympics as part of GB Team losing to India and winning silver. He
also played cricket for Merrion, in the Leinster Senior League, after World War II. He
married Elizabeth Avril Millington, MCSP on 17 Mar 1950 in Portadown. Avril was the only
child of Rev George Wilfred O’Callaghan Millington from Drumcondra, rector of St Mark’s,
Portadown, Canon and Precentor of Armagh Cathedral and his wife Mabel Agnes Davidson
of Annsbrook Clontarf, Dublin. He worked for O’Kennedy-Brindley and was director in
charge of Art and Studio by 1955. They lived at 15 Myrtle Grove, Waltersland and he died
on 23 May 1971 at his home. His funeral was held at St Brigid’s, Stillorgan and he was
buried in the adjoining graveyard. He was survived by his wife and daughter.
6 Andrew Manson Lindsay born 26 Nov 1921 at 6 Tivoli Terrace, Kingstown. He was a
gardener and died a bachelor on 16 May 1972. He is buried at Deansgrange.
