Samuel Willoughby born circa 1855 in Co Wexford son of William Willoughby. He was a
gardener and married Elizabeth Willoughby at Kilnahue Church, Gorey on 22 Oct 1867.
Elizabeth was the daughter of Charles Willoughby, a farmer of Ballingarry, Co Wexford and
his wife Elizabeth Reade. Samuel was a land steward and worked for the Law family of
Kilbarrack House, Raheny from 1878 to 1917. They had five children of whom three
survived in 1911. In 1916 Samuel received a bequest of £30 in the will of Sarah Katherine
Law. Elizabeth died at Kilbarrack on 24 Aug 1917 and was buried at Kilbarrack Graveyard.
Samuel died on 11 Feb 1925 at the Rest for the Dying in Camden Street and was buried with
his wife.
1 Harriette Willoughby born circa 1874 married Thomas Walker at Coolock on
11 Jun 1892. Thomas was a labourer and the son of Richard Walker, a sexton. They
lived at Woodtown Preparatory School Rathfarnham and Thomas worked as a
gardener for the for the Rev W A Hill. In 1911 all seven of their children had survived.
2 Samuel Willoughby born 22 Dec 1878 at Kilbarrack House gatelodge. He was a
gardener and married Jane Elizabeth Gordon on 16 April 1906 at Clontarf Parish
Church. Jane was the daughter of Alan Gordon, a labourer of Carlow. He worked for
the e Olphert famiy at Stonehouse in 1930 and for the Westby family of Roebuck
Castle from 1937 to 1940. Samuel died after being fatally injured after a collision
with a motor car belonging to Charles Archer of Lisalea on 18 Nov 1940 at the
junction of Foster Avenue on the Stillorgan Road late of Roebuck Castle gatelodge.
This was close to the spot where his son was killed 10 years earlier. He was buried at
Deansgrange. Jane was awarded £500 in damages as a result of his death. Jane died
15 Oct 1952 and was buried with her husband.
1 Samuel Gordon Willoughby born 23 January 1907 at Coolbawn,
Templeudigan, Co Wexford (the residence of H J Bruen). He was a
photographer and died unmarried at Baggot Street Hospital after he
crashed his newly purchased motor cycle outside Stone House gatelodge
on 5 Jul 1930 and was buried at Deansgrange.
2 Albert Willoughby born 12 Jun 1908 at Balrothery Dublin was a gardener.
He lived at Stonehouse gatelodge in 1930 and at Roebuck Castle gatelodge in
1937. He married Dorothy Joyce Hancox on 14 Sep 1937 at St Columba’s
Church, Kells. Dorothy was the daughter of John Hancox, a stud groom of
Balrathburry, Kells. Albert died on 27 Apr 1965 at the Meath Hospital, late
of Woodville gatelodge, Rock Hill, Blackrock and was buried at Deansgrange.
After his death Dorothy moved to Brusna Cottages, Blackrock.
3 Elizabeth Willoughby born 18 Nov 1909 at Stamullen, Co Meath married John
McAllister on 25 Jul 1940 at Merrion Hall, Merrion Street. John was a building
contractor living at Derrynane Gardens on Bath Avenue and the son of the
late Robert McAlister, a motor driver.
4 Alice Mary Willoughby born 28 Sep 1911 at Stedalt, Stamullen, Co Meath (the
residence of the late Henry R Tunstall-Moore). Alice of Roebuck Castle
gatelodge married Edgar Lucas on 24 Dec 1941 at St Thomas’ Church on
Foster Avenue. Edgar was a hosiery hand living at 4 Avoca Place, Blackrock
and the son of Henry Richard Lucas, boot and shoe trade. The reception was
held at 'Barwell, Blackrock and they honeymooned in the south of Ireland.
They were living at ‘Barwell’, Boley Road, Stradbrook in 1949.
1 Geoffrey Lucas died shortly after birth on 1 Dec 1949 at Tivoli Nursing
Home and was buried at Deansgrange and was buried with his
grandfather.
3 Annie Willoughby born 6 Mar 1881 at Raheny was a dressmaker living with her
parents in Raheny in 1901. She married Henry Fitzpatrick on 13 Aug 1908 at
Coolock Parish Church. Henry was a gardener living in Raheny and the son of
Charles Robert Fitzpatrick a carpenter of Tincashel, Pettigo. Henry worked for the
Despard family and were living at Ayrfield, Balgriffinin 1911 and two of their three
children had survived. Alice died on 15 Nov 1912 at the Adelaide Hospital from
puerperal sepsis after giving birth to her son Henry.

18 Aug 1886 and was buried at Kilbarrack graveyard.
