White of Eversham
William White born circa 1801 the youngest son of Luke White, MP of Woodlands (previously
Luttrellstown Castle) and the grandson of Luke White, bookseller of Dublin. He married Isabella
Blaney at Finglas Church on 2 Oct 1824 and they lived at Shrubs, Coolock, Co Dublin. Isabella
was the daughter of the Rev Henry O'Neale Bayly, rector of Nenagh and his wife Anne Penelope
Grueber. William died 20 Feb 1857 at 4 Fitzwilliam Square North. Isabella died at Shrubs on
30 Jan 1866.
1 William Henry Massy eldest son born circa 1829 died 31 Jan 1848 at Kingston, Upper
Canada. He was in his 20th year.
2 Matilda Emma White born 20 Apr 1830 at Shrubs. As eldest daughter she married John
Leahy on 13 Aug 1851 at Coolock Parish Church. John was a barrister of Fitzwilliam Street
and South Hill, Killarney and the son of John Leahy. John died 13 Oct 1874 at Limerick.
Matilda died at Killarney on 15 Sep 1907 and was buried in the Leahy family vault at
Kileagey.
1 John White Leahy only son born circa 1857 married Agnes Caroline Cole at Terryglass
on 27 Sep 1906. He died on 6 Sep 1907, rumours abounded of suicide but death
certificate gave cause of death as heart failure.
3 Luke White born 3 May 1832 at Shrubs married Elizabeth Mary Richie on 19 May 1859 at St
Peter’s. Elizabeth was the daughter of the late A Richie of Mount Temple. He was
appointed High sheriff of Monaghan in 1866. They lived at Mount John in Newtown
Mountkennedy (later home to August Kennedy Kisch – the developer of the Stillorgan
Shopping Centre) and also had a resident at 27 Upper Pembroke Street. In 1876 Luke owned
over 1300 acres in Co Longford. They lived at Evesham from 1873 to 1879 and moved to 27
Waterloo Road. Luke, as eldest surviving son died at Hampstead Glasnevin on 16 Jun 1889
aged 57, he had been paralysed for 2 years. Elizabeth moved to 53 Lesson Park and later
lived with her daughter Maude Dopping. She died a widow aged 88 on 14 Jan 1921 at 18
Upper Fitzwilliam Street. She was buried at Mount Jerome.

2 Son and heir White born 1 Feb 1862 at Mount John, Newtownmountkennedy died
March 1862.
3 William Alexander White only surviving son born 8 Aug 1864 at Mount John,
Newtownmountkennedy. He married Adelaide Gray (Aida) Newbold on 21 Dec 1891 at
the Mariners Church, Kingstown. Aida was the daughter of the Rev J J Newbold and
Margaret Gray. He was appointed high Sheriff of Longford in 1891. They lived at The
Shrubbery, Kilcock. Aida died suddenly aged 33 at Barmouth in Wales on 25 Jul 1901
while on a family holiday. Major White a widower of Kilmaine, Birr died 30 Oct 1910 at
the RIC Depot, Phoenix Park and was buried at Mount Jerome.
1 Luke Willian Newbold White only son born 29 Jun 1894 at Upper Merrion Street.
He joined the Indian army. He married Ada Iris Marshall at the Registrar’s office,
Kingstown on 29 Jun 1933 and then were married in St Paul’s Church on
17 Oct 1933. Ada was the daughter of William Kennedy Marshall of Marlborough,
Glenageary.
4 Maude Elizabeth White eldest daughter born 23 Oct 1865 at Mount John,
Newtownmountkennedy. She married Col James Henry Dopping on 9 Sep 1893 at
Christ Church, Leeson Park. James was commanding the 6th Battalion, the Rifle Brigade
PCO, Longford Militia, and of Derrycassan Co Longford. He was a widower and the son of
John Dopping. He was also a JO and land agent. They lived at Bellavista, 10 Trafalgar
Terrace, Monkstown and had two daughters. James died at Letterkenny on 12 Aug 1919.
Maude died a widow on 16 Jun 1946 in Devon.
5 Lucy Margaret White born 30 Aug 1869 at Mount John, Newtownmountkennedy. She
married Henry Webster on 19 Mar 1891 at Christ Church, Leeson Park. Henry was a
surveyor of Ross Cottage, Killarney, Co Kerry and the son of John Webster, a merchant.
They were living in Wexford with their three children in 1901 and Henry was a county
surveyor. They moved to Canada and Henry worked as a hydraulic engineer and
surveyor. He was appointed surveyor to British Columbia in 1910.
6 Premature daughter White stillborn at Eversham, Blackrock on 21 Nov 1874.
4 Emily White second daughter born circa 1836 married Joseph Bennett Little on 17 Dec 1857.
Joseph was of Knockrany, Co Roscommon and later of Knockadoo. Joseph died at Hastings,
Sussex on 13 Aug 1888, probate to his wife. Emily died in Hastings in 1907.
5 Arabella Penelope White third daughter born circa 1837 married John Knight Fitzherbert
on 9 Aug 1859 at Coolock Church. John was the youngest son of the late Sir Henry
Fitzherbert of Tissington Hall, Derbyshire. They were living in Christchurch, Hampshire in
1871 and 1981 and they had six children. John died 29 Jul 1894 and Arabella died
2 Sep 1896, both at Bournemouth.
6 Elizabeth (Lizzie) White fourth daughter born circa 1839 died on 4 April 1850 at Fitzwilliam
Square aged 10.
7 Helen Maria White youngest daughter born circa 1841 married Hugh Law in 17 Mar 1863 at
Coolock. Hugh was a barrister and the only son of John Law of Woodlawn, Co Down. He was
the Attorney General in 1873. Helen died 11 Nov 1875 at Fitzwilliam Square. Hugh became
Lord Chancellor of Ireland in 1881 and died on 10 Sep 1883 in Co Donegal. He was survived
by two sons and left 70k in personal estate.

8 Henry William White youngest son born 22 Jun 1843 was with the 11th Hussars. He married
Alice Clarinda Cuppage at Coolock church in 12 Jan 1864. Alice was the daughter of Edmund
Floyd Cuppage of Clare Grove, Co Dublin. They were living at Leamington Priors, Warwick
in 1881 with Alices’ mother.
