John Weldon born circa 1764 was an Irish Volunteer. He was part of the group which achieved
legislative and judicial independence from Britain as well as commercial autonomy in 1782.
John Weldon of Dame Street married Mary Mortimer in January 1783. In 1785 he was a partner
in Weldon and Murphy of 56 Dame Street (corner of Fownes Street). By 1794 he was a silk
mercer of 56 Dame Street trading on his own account. In 1820 he was still at Dame Street and
had a residence at 50 Baggot Street. He died 17 Apr 1839 as one of the surviving volunteers of
1782 at 50 Baggot Street. Administration was to his daughter Anne Weldon, spinster of same
place. He left £3781 in personal estate.
1 Marion Weldon born circa 1784 married John Byrne on 9 Jan 1812 at St Andrew’s
Westland Row. As eldest daughter she died at Baggot Street in 11 Nov 1816.

2 Jane Weldon died 10 Feb 1835.
3 Anne Weldon born circa 1785 was living with her sister Lucy in Sussex Parade in 1844.
She died a spinster on 1 Aug 1877 at Clarinda Park East. Bridget Boland the informant.
4 Lucy Weldon born circa 1797 was living at Sussex Parade by 1844. She died a spinster
at 6 Sussex Parade, Kingstown on 28 Nov 1871. Bridget Boland the informant.
5 James Anthony Weldon born circa 1800 was educated at Maynooth College and was
admitted Kings Inns circa 1820. He was living at Baggot Street and married Maria
Maxwell in November 1825. Maria was the eldest daughter of Joseph Maxwell of
Andrew’s Street. His offices were at Ormond Quay 1830-34 and Andrews Street 1835-36.
They were living at Crumlin by 1837 and James had his offices at Frederick Street from
1837 to 1839. He was on the management committee of the collection of funds for the
O’Connell Tribute in 1839 with offices at 172 Great Brunswick. The lived at Carysfort
Lodge from 1839 to 1841. James died in 1844 and probate was to his wife Maria, living
at 18 Summerhill. He left personal estate of £200. Maria died at 37 North Great Georges
Street on 7 Jun 1864 aged 60 and was buried at Glasnevin.
1 Mary Marcella Weldon born circa 1831 married Richard Power of Ballydavid
House, Littleton, Co Waterford on 26 Feb 1859 at the Pro Cathedral. Richard was
the son of Michael Power and Ellen Desmond of Fourmilewater, Co Waterford.
They had at least nine children. Mary died a widow on 26 Jun 1898 at Alma Road,
Monkstown. Her daughter Eileen the informant.
1 Mary Desmond Power eldest daughter born 8 Dec 1859 at Littleton, Co
Waterford married John Bray O’Brien in 1881.
2 John Power born March 1862 at Ballydavid.
3 Anne Power born 23 Feb 1864 at Ballydavid, Co Tipperary.
2 Elizabeth Weldon second daughter born circa 1832 took the veil and died
25 Feb 1876 at the Convent of Mercy, Liverpool.
3 Jane Weldon third daughter born circa 1837 died 29 Jul 1841 at Carysfort Lodge
aged 4 and was buried at Glasnevin.
4 John Weldon born circa 1839 admitted Kings Inn, his uncle Patrick Maxwell signed
the affidavit. He was a solicitor with offices at North Great Georges Street in 1864.
He died a bachelor at Tristram Lodge ,Sutton on 12 Sep 1883. His cousin James
Maxwell the informant. His funeral Mass was at the Pro Cathedral and he was
buried at Glasnevin. Probate to Patrick Maxwell, solicitor of North Great Georges
Street.
6 Richard Weldon born circa 1805 educated at St Brigid’s seminary in Blanchardstown and
was living at Baggot Street in 1838. He was a doctor and a member of the Royal College of
Surgeons. He died 14 May 1870 at Sussex Terrace, Kingstown. He left 1500 in personal
estate and probate was to his sister Lucy.
