Francis Butler eldest son of Walter Butler of Gregg. He was a captain in the Limerick Militia
and married Sarah Moore on 1 Mar 1814 at St Peter’s Church, Dublin. Sarah was the
daughter of Edward Moore (the O’Moore) of Mooresfort, Co Tipperary and the granddaughter
of the Hon Maurice Crosbie, Dean of Limerick. Francis died on 7 Jan 1856 at Ardee, Co Louth,
the home of his son in law, Murtagh O’Bryen. Sarah died on 2 Jun 1860 at Fair Green Cottage,
Ardee the residence of her son in law.
1 Elizabeth Butler eldest daughter married John Lopdell of Derryowen Castle, Co Clare
at St Andrew’s Church in November 1839. Derryowen was destroyed by fire in 1846.
1 Son and heir Lopdell born at Cregg, Co Galway in September 1843.
2 Sarah Anne Lopdell born circa 1851 in Co Galway living at Kingstown with her
cousin Sarah Lawless in 1901.
2 Anna Dorothea Butler second daughter born circa 1818 married Murtagh O’Bryen of
Glan Columkill, Co Clare on 13 Dec 1849 at St Thomas’ Church (5 days after her
brother Walter married). Murtagh was the son of Terence O'Bryen and an inspector
with the RIC.
1 Sarah Ellen O'Bryen, eldest daughter died from scarlet fever on 4 Feb 1858.
2 Elizabeth O'Bryen born circa 1855 was brought up church of Ireland and was
a spinster living with her brother at Monkstown in 1901.
3 Turlough Butler O'Bryen born 1853 in Co Louth was an apiculture inspector. In
1893 he was appointed by the Congested District Board to develop beekeeping
in Ireland. He travelled the country by bike leading the way in introducing
moveable frame hives. He married Mary McNamara on 26 Feb 1900 at St
Saviour's, Dominic Street and they moved to Trafalgar Terrace in Monkstown.
Mary was the eldest daughter of the late Dr Michael Macnamara of Corofin, Co
Clare. Turlough was an apiculture inspector known as The Bee Man from Co
Clare. He was retired by the Department of Agriculture without a pension in
1924 (he had only ever signed a temporary contract). He went back to his 10
acre farm in the Burren mountains to eke out a living. The father of bee-keeping
died on 2 Aug 1928 at Corofin.
3 Walter Richard Butler eldest son born circa 1819 graduated Trinity and admitted Kings
Inns. He was called to the Bar in 1843. He was a barrister living at 14 Gardiner Street
and of Cregg, Co Galway. He married Marianna Cowan on 13 Dec 1849 at St Thomas’
Church, Dublin. Marianne was the daughter of Joseph Henry Cowan, solicitor of
Eyrecourt, Co Galway. Walter was insolvent in 1850 and the Cregg estate was sold
for 11K (20K short of the incumbrances on the estate). Marianne died at 1 Great
Denmark Street on 9 Mar 1852 aged 24, just 8 days after giving birth.

Walter Richard Butler of 12 Lower Gardiner Street secondly married Wilhelmina
Fitzgerald Parker, second daughter of Frederick Saintbury Parker, late Deputy
Commissary General on 19 Dec 1855 at St Anne’s Church. Walter of Ontario, Clontarf
and late of Cregg, Galway died on 19 Oct 1875 aged 56 years and left 25K in personal
estate. Wilhelmina died 22 Apr 1893 aged 74 years at Ontario, Clontarf and left 8K in
personal estate. Both are buried at Mount Jerome.
3 Walter Crosbie Butler born 21 Feb 1860 at 12 Lower Gardiner Street graduated
as a civil engineer from Trinity. He was living at Kincora, Clontarf and married
Isabella Catherine (Johnnie) Jameson on 6 Nov 1895 at Clontarf Parish Church.
Isabella was the youngest daughter of the late Rev Thomas Jameson of
Balmoral, Castle Avenue, Clontarf, Vicar of Finglas. They lived at Kincora in
Clontarf from 1901 to 1914 and Walter was a director of The Clontarf Bath and
Assembly Rooms Company. They were at Prospect Hall by 1917. Walter died
on 25 Sep 1938 aged 78 years and was buried at Mount Jerome and left 25K in
personal estate. Isabella died on 17 Mar 1941 aged 76 years at Prospect Hall,
Roebuck.
1 Isabella Wilhelmina (Winnie) Butler born 3 Aug 1901 at Kincora, Clontarf
was a talented violinist. She married Charles Lancelot Hill on 9 Feb 1927
at Taney Church. Charles was a Brewery Official living at Rostellan,
Milltown and the only son of Henry Purden Hill late of Ulster Bank,
Blackrock. The moved to England. Isabella died in Surrey and left 526K
in personal estate.
2 Marcia Catherine Butler born 24 Feb 1905 at Kincora, Clontarf died
unmarried in Sussex.
4 Edward Frederick Butler youngest son born March 1861 at 11 Gardiner Street
died 10 Jan 1863 aged 2 years at 11 Gardiner Street and was buried at Mount
Jerome.
4 Edward Walter Butler born circa 1821 in Co Galway graduated Trinity and took Holy
orders. He officiated at the marriage of his sister Anna in 1849 and his bother Walter’s
marriage in 1855. He married Henrietta Eleanor Moore on 18 Aug 1852 at St Patrick’s
Church, Waterford. Henrietta was the only daughter of William Moore of Waterford.
He was rector of Fertagh and Rathlogan and canon of Tascoffin, St Canice’s Cathedral in
Kilkenny. Henrietta died at Kilkenny aged 47 on 8 Sep 1879 and was buried at Wexford.
Edward died on 4 Mar 1881 at Kilkenny.

2 Sarah Henrietta Butler born circa 1859 married George E F Lawless on
28 Jun 1893 at Dalkey Church. George was an inspector with the RIC.
3 Francis Butler born 24 Mar 1860 at Co Wexford was a Tutor at Trinity College.
4 Ellen Marianne Butler second daughter married William Scriven on 2 Dec 1888
at Zion Church Rathgar.
5 Gertrude Francis Butler born 4 Aug 1863 at Co Wexford married Rev William
Ryland Rainsfort Moore on 15 Dec 1888 at St Peter’s Church Dublin. They were
living in Cavan in 1911.
6 Edward Albert Butler born circa 1866 at Co Wexford.
5 Sarah Ellen Butler was left a legacy in the will of her brother Edward in 1881.

Francis Butler married Sarah Moore

Francis Butler eldest son of Walter Butler of Gregg. He was a captain in the Limerick Militia
and married Sarah Moore on 1 Mar 1814 at St Peter’s Church, Dublin. Sarah was the
daughter of Edward Moore (the O’Moore) of Mooresfort, Co Tipperary and the granddaughter
of the Hon Maurice Crosbie, Dean of Limerick. Francis died on 7 Jan 1856 at Ardee, Co Louth,
the home of his son in law, Murtagh O’Bryen. Sarah died on 2 Jun 1860 at Fair Green Cottage,

Walter Richard Butler of 12 Lower Gardiner Street secondly married Wilhelmina
Fitzgerald Parker, second daughter of Frederick Saintbury Parker, late Deputy
Commissary General on 19 Dec 1855 at St Anne’s Church. Walter of Ontario, Clontarf
and late of Cregg, Galway died on 19 Oct 1875 aged 56 years and left 25K in personal
estate. Wilhelmina died 22 Apr 1893 aged 74 years at Ontario, Clontarf and left 8K in
personal estate. Both are buried at Mount Jerome.
3 Walter Crosbie Butler born 21 Feb 1860 at 12 Lower Gardiner Street graduated
as a civil engineer from Trinity. He was living at Kincora, Clontarf and married
Isabella Catherine (Johnnie) Jameson on 6 Nov 1895 at Clontarf Parish Church.
Isabella was the youngest daughter of the late Rev Thomas Jameson of
Balmoral, Castle Avenue, Clontarf, Vicar of Finglas. They lived at Kincora in
Clontarf from 1901 to 1914 and Walter was a director of The Clontarf Bath and
Assembly Rooms Company. They were at Prospect Hall by 1917. Walter died
on 25 Sep 1938 aged 78 years and was buried at Mount Jerome and left 25K in
personal estate. Isabella died on 17 Mar 1941 aged 76 years at Prospect Hall,
Roebuck.

4 Edward Walter Butler born circa 1821 in Co Galway graduated Trinity and took Holy
