Fitzwilliam Lodge Fitzwilliam Lodge
William Bolton born circa 1806 son of Edward Bolton and Anne Richards of Wexford and had at
least twelve siblings. He moved to Dublin in 1828 to take on an apprenticeship at Kinahans and
was later a cashier. His mother died at Ballinastraw on 18 Mar 1844. He married Anna Matilda
Barklie on 18 Sep 1851 at St Mark’s, Dublin. William was living at D’Olier Street and Anna was
the daughter of James Barklie, a linen merchant. He founded William Bolton & Company in 1853
a wine, grocer and spirit company based at 36 Westmoreland Street. By 1860 they were living at
Fitzwilliam Lodge and were renting out the small house which was a continuation of their house.
In 1863 Kinahans took out an injunction to refrain William from selling LL whiskey (a name coined
by Kinahans for the whiskey they sold to the Lord Lieutenant). His older brother John Bolton
lived at Grenagh, Stillorgan. When his brother Henry died in 1884, William inherited the farm
at Ballinastraw. Anna died 7 Sep 1896 at Fitzwilliam Lodge. William died on 25 Mar 1897 at
Fitzwilliam Lodge and was buried at Mount Jerome. He left 6k in person estate.
1 Edward James Bolton elder son born circa 1853. He married Emma Sophia Jones on
23 Jun 1886 at St Peter’s Church, Carmarthen. Emma was the second daughter of the late
Rev John Jones, Vicar of Nevern, Pembrokeshire. Edward was a farmer at Ballinastraw and
died six months after his marriage on 14 Dec 1886 at Ballinastraw, Co Wexford late of
Fitzwilliam Lodge.
2 Mary Edith Bolton born circa 1857 in Dublin married Richard Thomas Hearn at Booterstown
Parish Church on 7 Sep 1882. Richard was an MD living at Belgrave Square and the son of
George Hearn. They lived at Belgrave square and Richard bred Fox terriers. They had no
children. Richard died 24 Feb 1913 at 7 Belgrave Square aged 62 and left 3K in personal
estate, probate to his wife. Mary died circa 1937.
3 William Bolton born circa 1858 in Blackrock Co Dublin was educated at Rice’s School, Baggot
Street. He was an Irish swimmer and held the national two hundred and the three hundred
yards championship. He was a founder member of the Blackrock Swimming Club, hon sec
in 1882 and later president. In 1891 he entered into partnership with his father in William
Bolton and Company. He continued to live at Fitzwilliam Lodge after the death of his parents.
He bred prize winning Collie dogs. William died unmarried on 11 Nov 1933 at 7 Belgrave
Square late of Fitzwilliam Lodge, Blackrock and Ballinastraw, Gorey, Co Wexford.
