Cheshire Seamount
James William Wall of Coolnamuck (Colemucky), Co Waterford (west of Carrick, on the
Waterford side of the Suir). He married Elizabeth Cuffe circa 1769. Elizabeth was a
daughter of Daniel Cuff. According to Dorotheda Herbert in her book retrospections, James
was ‘out of his reason and was kept in England under proper guardians’. He died 16 Oct 1819
at Cheshire and was buried there. Elizabeth lived at the Lodge, Co Waterford from 1815 until
at least 1822. She was at Seamount by 1827 and died in September 1830 at Seamount.
1 Charles William Wall eldest son born circa 1771. He was a magistrate of Tipperary and
Waterford. He married Elizabeth Lowe in 1796. Elizabeth was the only daughter of
Richard Butler Hamilton Lowe of Lowe's Green, Co Tipperary. He had large estates in
Dublin, Tipperary and Waterford. He returned to Coolnamuck Castle on the death of
his father after a number of years absence. Elizabeth died at Coolnamuck in December
1836. Charles died 3 Sep 1843 at Coolnamuck Court, Co Waterford.
1 James William Wall eldest son and heir born circa 1799. He married Margaret
Manders on 1 Dec 1836 at Swords Church. Margaret was the daughter of Richard
Manders of Brackenstown, Co Dublin. He was appointed a JP in 1846 and a DL in
1849. 3340 acres of his estate in Waterford and Tipperary were put up for sale
through the Encumbered Courts but failed to sell in 1850. It sold in 1852 for 62K.
Further lots were sold over the ensuing years. James died on 5 Mar 1873 at La
Mancha, Mullingar.
1 Stillborn child Wall in October 1837 at Brackenstown.
2 Susan Elizabeth Wall born in July 1840 at Mountjoy Square married Joseph
Fitze on 22 Jun 1875 at Southsea.
3 Rosetta Gertude Wall born 8 Oct 1842 at Mountjoy Square, the residence of
her grandfather living with her Aunt Elizabeth at Hampton in 1881. She
married Frederick Mackland of Great Malvern on 22 Apr at St Michael and All
Angels, Paddington. Frederick was a civil servant and they were living at High
Street Corsham Wiltshire in 1911. Rosetta died a widow 23 Jan 1921 at
Corsham.
4 Stillborn son Wall 21 Dec 1844 at Carlow Club House.
5 Charles William Henry Wall born March 1847 at Coolnamuck married Agnes
Mary Paget on 11 May 1881 at Welton. Agnes was the daughter of the Rev
Thomas Bradley Paget, vicar of Welton and Canon of York.
6 Maria Louisa Wall 1 May 1848 at Coolnamuck married George Beatty West
Stuart on 23 Jun 1873 at Southsea.
7 Eliza Margaret Wall married William Henry Mogford on 17 Jun 1879 at St
James’ Church, Paddington.
2 Elizabeth Lucy Wall second daughter born circa 1801 married John Doherty in 1822.
3 Richard Butler Wall second son born circa 1801 died at Coolnamuck Court in June
1826.
4 Daniel Cuffe Wall third son born April 1805 (twin) married Catherina Isabella Perrier
on 17 Jan 1824. Catherina was the eldest daughter of Sir David Perrier of Douglas
House, Cork and sometime Mayor.
5 Louisa Wall third daughter (twin) born April 1805 at Coolnamuck married John
Bagwell of Kilmore, near Clonmel and Larchgrove in January 1828.
2 Daniel Henry Wall born circa 1779 took Holy orders. He was rector of Clonmel for 21
years and resigned in 1832. He moved to Great Nestor in Cheshire.
3 Elizabeth Wall only daughter born circa 1781 married Richard Butler Lowe in October 1802
at Clonegam Church, Waterford. Richard was High Sheriff of Co Tipperary.
