Charles Tuthill born 22.01.1810 son of John Tuthill and Mary Beere. Charles, a barrister married
Sarah Taylor of Heathfield on 05.12.1838 at St Peter’s Church. Sarah was the youngest daughter
of late Major Archibald Taylor of the 19th Regiment. The family lived at Fortescue Terrace,
Rathmines until 1867 and at Newstead from 1868 to 1890. Charles owned over 1000 acres in Co
Westmeath in 1876. He died 11.02.1888 at Newstead, Clonskeagh and is buried at Mount Jerome.
He left 10k in personal estate and probate was to his son Archibald. Sarah died 09.11.1899 at 7
Sion Hill, Clifton, Gloucester and is buried at Mount Jerome. Probate was to her son Archibald.
1 Charlotte Hendley Tuthill eldest daughter born at Rathmines baptised 05.12.1842 at St
Peter’s Church. Charlotte died 16.09.1860 aged 18 years at the residence of her godfather
Ferguson Hendley of 7 Fortescue Terrace, Rathmines and is buried at Mount Jerome.
2 George Tuthill eldest son born circa 1846 died 22.04.1856 aged 10 years at 6 Fortescue
Terrace, Rathmines and is buried at Mount Jerome.
3 Archibald Tuthill born circa 1848. He was living at Newstead, Clonskeagh and married
Wilhelmina Rogers on 18.08.1875 at the Parish Church of St Nicholas, Galway. Wilhelmina
was the daughter of Willliam Rogers and died 07.04.1923 at 22 Alma Road, Monkstown and
Archibald died on 16.01.1938 of Tamney, Upper Adelaide Road, Glenageary. Probate to
daughter Amy and they are buried at Mount Jerome.
1 Sarah Wilhelmina (Ina) Tuthill 10.09.1876 at 15 Ormond Road died unmarried on
13.11.1924 aged 48 years at Monkstown Hospital of 2 Alma Road, Blackrock. Ina was
knocked down by a passing motor car as she was stepped off a tramcar a few weeks
prior to her death. She is buried at Mount Jerome.
2 Eva Mary Tuthill baptised on 14.05.1879 at Rathmines of 15 Ormond Road. Eva died
unmarried on 30.11.1927 aged 49 years at Altona, Alma Road, Monkstown and is
buried at Mount Jerome.
3 Amy Mary Chateauneuf Tuthill baptised on 16.07.1884 at Rathmines of 15 Ormond
Road. Amy married Ernest William Proud a Solicitor of 69 Albert Road, Kingstown son
of William Proud on 11.08.1914 at Monkstown Parish Church.
4 Arthur Hendley Tuthill of 6 Rathmines Road fourth son baptised on 09.07.1851 at St Peter’s
Church. Arthur graduated Trinity and took silk in 1875. He died of typhoid on 01.09.1878
aged 27 years at Newstead and is buried at Mount Jerome.
5 Frederick Tuthill of 6 Rathmines Road baptised on 09.07.1851 at St Peter’s Church. Frederick
died on 10.01.1892 formerly of Newstead and late of Tundla North Western Provinces, India.
6 Eleanor Tuthill of 6 Rathmines Road baptised on 05.12.1853 at St Peter’s Church. Elinor
married Charles Louis Matheson at York Street Church in the Parish of St Peter Dublin.
Charles was the son of Robert Matheson, clerk of the Privy Council. They had at least five
children.
7 John Tuthill of 6 Rathmines Road baptised on 28.11.1856 at St Peter’s Church.
8 Charles Albert Hendley Tuthill of 6 Rathmines Road baptised on 26.04.1861 at St Peter’s
Church. Charles died unmarried on 28.03.1921 of 41 Buckingham Place, Brighton. Probate to
Annie Hall.
