Mary Tierney Mary daughter of Michael Tierney and Mary Jackman.  She was working at Rose
Hill, Blackrock for the Ledwich family in 1901.  She married James Reynolds a Postman of
Sydney Avenue, Blackrock at All Saints Church in 1908. At the time of her marriage Mary was
working for Henrietta Goodbody at Obelisk Park.  James born in Stillorgan was the son John
Reynolds, a butler and Mary Anne Kenny.  In 1911 they were living at Georges Avenue with
her brother Lawrence.

In March 1930 under the fear that the Free State would become bankrupt, James applied to
retire from the Civil Service having served since he was 15. He also served in the British Army
from 1916 to 1919 and thought ‘he had done his bit’.  John died at Blackrock Lodge on
24.05.1930 just a couple months after his application to retire.
