Patrick Thunder born circa 1753 resident at Balaly, near Lusk secondly married Elizabeth
Taafe circa 1798. (His first wife Judith O’Reilly died in November 1789, the same year as
they had married). Elizabeth was the eldest daughter of Joseph Taafe of Smarmore Castle,
Co Louth and her sister Alicia was married to Michael Joseph Sweetman. They lived at
Lagore, Ratoath after the married. Patrick Thunder of Lagore died 18 Dec 1827 aged 74.
1 Michael Thunder born circa 1802 eldest son of Patrick Thunder of Lagore and
Elizabeth (Ella) Taafe. He married Charlotte Mary D’Alton on 2 Sep 1834 at
Booterstown House (the residence of her aunt Mrs Charlotte Sweetman nee
Dalton). Charlotte was the daughter of Colonel Denis Harman D’Alton of the
HEIC. He was a JP & DL and High Sheriff in 1850. He had over 2000 acres of land in
1876. He died 20 Nov 1879 at Stratford, Rathgar and he was buried at Ratoath. He
left 3k in personal estate. Charlotte died on 16 Jul 1889 aged 73 at Roslin,
Terenure and was buried with her husband.
1 Charlotte Mary Thunder, eldest daughter born 28 Jun 1835 at Gardiner’s
Place married Thomas Boylan JP on 13 Aug 1861 at Ratoath.
2 Eliza Mary Thunder second daughter born Booterstown House 8 Feb 1837
became a nun and died at Mount Anville Convent, Stillorgan 24 Sep 1874.
3 Patrick Thunder, son and heir born at Earl Street 21 Jan 1838 married Mary
Anne O’Kelly on 13 Jul 1871. Marianne was the youngest daughter of De
Pentheny O’Kelly, JP of Barrettstown. He was JP & DL in 1889. They were
living at Balleally Lusk by 1901. Patrick died at sea on 11 Dec 1912 on board
the Royal Steamer Conaught on his way back from Bath and Marianne died
in 16 Jun 1924 at Lagore aged 84.
1 Mary Ann Charlotte (Minnie) Thunder born 14 Jul 1872 at Barrettstown
living with her parents in Lusk in 1901 and 1911.
2 Michael Pentheny Thunder born 28 Jul 1874 at Barrettstown. He was a
brewer and married Mary Christina Sullivan on 29 Jan 1900 at St
Andrews Church. Mary died 15 Nov 1908 at Baggot Street and was
buried at Ratoath.
1 Virginia Mary Eleanor Thunder born 26 Feb 1901 at Frankfort, NCR
died unmarried in London in 1923.
2 Patrick George Thunder born 15 April 1904 at Dartmouth Square.
He was a farmer resident at Luckington Lodge Dalkey and married
Helena Mary Cooney on 1 Jul 1946. He died during an operation
after a car accident on 12 Jul 1947 and was buried at Deansgrange.
Helena was seriously injured also in the crash but survived.
3 Georgina Mary Thunder born 13 Jul 1876 died at Barretstown, Kildare on
24 Aug 1876 died same place on 24 Aug 1876.
4 Mabel Louise Mary Thunder born 20 Dec 1878 at Barrettstown died same
place 8 Jan 1879.
5 Adelaide Margaret Thunder born and died in 1881.
4 Mary Jane Thunder born 31 Jan 1839 at Lagore baptised at Ratoath on 5 Feb 1839
died unmarried at 99 Stephens Green on 19 Oct 1921 and was buried at Ratoath.
5 Anna Maria Thunder born 23 Jul 1840 died at Lagore 1 Jan 1841.
6 Michael Harman D'Alton Thunder second son born Lagore 17 Feb 1842 baptised
at Ratoath married Mary Knill on 19 Jun 1878 at Greenwich Church. Mary was
the daughter of Chevalier Stuart Knill whose half sister was the wife of Augustus
Pugin. Michael was a J P and late lieutenant in the 58th Regiment. Mary died
25 Nov 1893 aged 42 and was buried at Ratoath. Michael by 1901 was living at
Seneschalstown and died same place on 22 Apr 1914 and was buried with his wife.
1 Charlotte Mary Thunder born 20 Jan 1882 at Johnstown living with her father
in 1901.
2 Stuart Harman Joseph Thunder born 23 Mar 1879 at Johnstown. He was a
captain (acting) 1st Northamptonshire Regt and married Ethelrida Mary
(Ethel) Tidmarsh on 6 Sep 1910 at Limerick Cathedral. Ethel was the
daughter of David Tidmarsh of Lota, Limerick and Chairman of Cannock's
Department Store. He served during WW1 and was mentioned in dispatches
seven times, he received the CMG and DSO and the Military Cross. Lieut
Col Thunder retired in 1930 having served in Palestine. Stuart died at The
Grange, Shalbourne, Marlborough, Wiltshire on 6 Mar 1948.
1 Michael Dalton Thunder born 1912 Devonport, Devon. He married
Elizabeth Lancaster in 1941. Wing commander Michael Dalton
Thunder was the second man to fly non-stop from Ceylon to Perth
in 1943 (a 32 hour journey).
3 Francis D’Alton Thunder born 3 Jul 1885 at Seneschalstown died same place
on 8 Mar 1887.
4 Margaret Mary Josephine Thunder born 27 Mar 1889 at Seneschalstown living
with her father in 1911.
5 Leo Michael Dalton Thunder born 6 Feb 1891 at Seneschalstown was a stock
broker. He married Milborough S Hoar in 1923 and died a widower on
13 Feb 1964 Mountain View Road, Ballybrack late of Lagoreen, Ashford. His
funeral mass was held at Ballybrack and he was buried at Glenealy.
6 John Charles Dominick Thunder born 4 Aug 1893 at Seneschalstown. He was
educated at St Augustine's College, Ramsgate. He served during WW1 and was
a lieutenant in the RASC in 1921 based at Amesbury, Wiltshire.
7 Julia Maria Thunder, fourth daughter born circa 1842 married Hugh O’Connor,
grandson of Valentine O'Connor of Rockfield on 2 Sep 1863 at Ratoath Church.
8 John Albert Thunder, third son born 15 Apr 1845, died at Stoneyhurst College
on 11 Apr 1859.
9 Helena Mary Thunder baptised at Ratoath on 2 Sep 1846 was a Sister of Mercy
living at Eccles Street in 1901 and 1911. Sister Xavier died July 1915 at the Mater
Hospital where she had worked as a nurse. She was buried at Golden Bridge.
10 James William Thomas Thunder born 21 Apr 1848 at Lagore baptised at Ratoath
married Laura Mary Plowden in 1873. James was a land agent and they lived in
Bellewstown House, Co Meath in 1901. They were living at Ludlow, Shropshire,
England in 1911 and four of their children had survived. James died in 1927, in
London.

2 Cyril Joseph Thunder born 27 Jul 1875 at Parsonstown died 17 Jan 1908
in Brazil.
3 Bernard William Thunder born 15 Aug 1877 at Parsonstown Manor,
Batterstown was with the Royal Navy reserve in 1901. He was based in
the Kamper Perek Straits and married Mabel Penelope Eckersley on
2 Jan 1907 at Portsmouth.
1 Gerald E Thunder born 26 Aug 1913 at Hampshire.
4 Hilda Mary Thunder born 28 Jul 1879 at Parsonstown married Gerard
Thomas Colegrave on 7 Oct 1907 at Little Bampton.
5 Wilfred Michael Thunder born 15 Nov 1881 at Parsonstown was a medical
student in 1901 and served with the RAMC during WW1. He married Maud
M S McCann in 1917 who died 5 Jul 1918 shortly after delivering a still born
baby. He secondly married Eileen Frances Northall-Laurie in 1297. Eileen
died at Drumleer, Co Louth in 1960 and Wilfred died in Co Louth in 1963.
6 Constance Thunder born 29 Jun 1885 died 26 Oct 1898 at was buried at
Ratoath.
11 George Francis Thunder fifth son born 3 Dec 1849 at Lagore. He joined the army
and was with the Royal Fusiliers and served in the second Anglo-Afghan War and
was stationed in India. He married Margaret Purcell on the 24 Aug 1878 at SS
Peters & Edwards, Palace Street London. Margaret was the fifth and youngest
daughter of Augustus Welby Pugin (the Gothic Revivalist architect) and the
widow of Judge Henry Francis Purcell of Bombay and came to her second
marriage with four children. Margaret died on 26 Jul 1884 aged 34 having been
ill for three years. She was buried at Ramsgate.
1 James Augustus Thunder born 21 Jun 1879 in Bombay emigrated to
America and worked for the Elite Vacuum Company in Cook County,
Chicago. He married Gertrude M Buckley on 27 Feb 1905 at San
Francisco. He was a widower by 1940 and died 23 May 1954 at Almada,
California.
1 Eileen G Thunder born circa 1918 living with her father in 1940.
2 Michael Hubert Francis Thunder born 5 Sep 1880 in Ramsgate educated
at Clongowes Wood College. He joined 45 (Dublin) Company 13th
Battalion Imperial Yeomanry and arrived in South Africa in early 1900.
He was taken a prisoner of war after the battalion surrendered and
released on 5 Sep 1900 at Nooitgedacht. He was in Dublin in 1901
visiting his uncle Austin Melton and aunt Kate Meldon nee Pugin. He was
working as a tin mines manager at Gopeng, Perak in Malay by 1902. He
enlisted in 1915 and got his wings in March, 1916. He served as 2nd
lieutenant, 51 Squadron with the Royal Flying Corps as a pilot during WW1.
He died of burns at Norfolk War Hospital after a flying accident whilst on
Zeppelin patrol on 23 Sep 1916 and was buried at St Augustine, Ramsgate.
Probate was to his half sister Margaret Eileen Gladstone nee Purcell.
George retired in 1892 and secondly married Marie Louise (Maggie) Meisterzheim
in 1890 in London. She was the children’s nurse. Major George Thunder late of
the 38th Regiment and of the 7th Royal Fusiliers died suddenly on 18 Jun 1904 at
Wenban Road, Worthing.

12 Rose Mary Thunder born circa 1850 educated at the Sacre Coeur, Paris.
She became a nun and was superior at Mount Anville Convent in 1911.
13 Robert Thunder, sixth son born April 1854 baptised at Ratoath died at 43
Rutland Square on 6 Jan 1862.
14 Mary Thunder, youngest daughter baptised on 21 Aug 1856 died at 43
Rutland Square 6 Jan 1867.
15 Francis Thunder youngest son born 11 Jul 1858 married Louisa Eleanor
(Louie) Maher on 19 Nov 1885 at Ballymurne Church. Louisa was the only
surviving daughter of the late John Maher, DL of Ballikeele, Co Wexford. He
was a director and chairman of the Mitcham and Cheam Brewery Company.
Louie died at Horsham on 14 Aug 1912 at Tanfield, Horsham. They had no
children.
Francis secondly married Adelaide (Adela) Gahan at Horsham in 1914. Francis
died 15 Apt 1928 Blackhall, Drogheda and left 6k in personal estate. His
funeral mass was held at Termonfeckin and he was buried at Ratoath. Adela
died on 9 Jul 1952 and was buried with her husband.
2 Anne Alicia born circa 1803 married Francis Bernard Haly of Portrane, Queens County on
15 Nov 1838 at Lagore. Anne died 25 Feb 1885 and was buried at Ratoath.
3 John Thunder second son born circa 1805 was educated at Stonyhurst College and
admitted Kings Inns. He was a solicitor of 43 Rutland Square and died a bachelor
in Bournemouth on 30 Apr 1869. He left 10k in person estate which was left for
the benefit of his brothers and sisters.
4 George Thunder baptised 24 Aug 1807 son or Patrick Thunder and Eliza Taafe at
Ratoath. He married Eliza Pauline Mansfield on 4 Jul 1837 at Morristown Lattin,
Co Kildare. Eliza was the only daughter of Alexander Mansfield and Paulina Lattin.
He was a sheep farmer with 206 acres in Meath and died at Kingston Lodge,
Painstown on 26 Nov 1877 and left 5k in personal estate. Eliza died aged 59 on
6 Apr 1878 at Highfield House, Rathgar.
1 Lattin Alexander Thunder baptised at Ratoath on 18 Nov 1838 died
unmarried on 22 Feb 1900 at Kingstown Lodge.
2 Paulina Thunder born 22 Jan 1840 at Kingstown Lodge baptised 29 Jan 1840.
living with her brother Edmund in Newbridge. She died unmarried
8 May 1907 at Mount Street.
3 Agnes Thunder born February 1841 at Kingstown Lodge baptised 20 Feb 1841
died a spinster at St Vincent's Crescent Fairview on 28 Dec 1893.
4 Ellen Mary Thunder third daughter baptised 25 Apr 1842. She married
William James Ingham on 27 Jun 1871 at the Pro Cathedral. William was the
son of John Stannus Ingham of Lisuamine, Co Cavan. Ellen was a widow living
at Mount Street in 1901.

9 Alexander Lattin Thunder baptised 17 Jun 1849 at Beauparc, Meath married
Charlotte Mary Creagh on 25 Jan 1883 at St Mary’s Haddington Road. Alexander
was a Bank Manager and they had seven children of whom five survived in 1911.
Their son George was killed serving in WW1 in 1917.

11 Louisa Thunder baptised 20 Nov 1851 living at Mount Street in 1901. She died
unmarried on 20 May 1917 at Kingstown.

13 Edmund Thunder baptised 7 Mar 1855 at Beaupark. He was a doctor and died
unmarried at his residence in Newbridge on 5 Jun 1914.
14 John Michael Thunder born 11 Jun 1857 at Kingstown Lodge baptised at
Beaupark on 20 Jun 1857.
5 Henry Thunder fourth son born circa 1809 was educated at Trinity and admitted
Kings Inn. He died a bachelor at Woodville, Mountmellick on 7 Dec 1879 and left 9k in
personal estate.

12 Rose Mary Thunder born circa 1850 educated at the Sacre Coeur, Paris.
She became a nun and was superior at Mount Anville Convent in 1911.
13 Robert Thunder, sixth son born April 1854 baptised at Ratoath died at 43
Rutland Square on 6 Jan 1862.
14 Mary Thunder, youngest daughter baptised on 21 Aug 1856 died at 43
Rutland Square 6 Jan 1867.
15 Francis Thunder youngest son born 11 Jul 1858 married Louisa Eleanor
(Louie) Maher on 19 Nov 1885 at Ballymurne Church. Louisa was the only
surviving daughter of the late John Maher, DL of Ballikeele, Co Wexford. He
was a director and chairman of the Mitcham and Cheam Brewery Company.
Louie died at Horsham on 14 Aug 1912 at Tanfield, Horsham. They had no
children.
Francis secondly married Adelaide (Adela) Gahan at Horsham in 1914. Francis
died 15 Apt 1928 Blackhall, Drogheda and left 6k in personal estate. His
funeral mass was held at Termonfeckin and he was buried at Ratoath. Adela
died on 9 Jul 1952 and was buried with her husband.
2 Anne Alicia born circa 1803 married Francis Bernard Haly of Portrane, Queens County on
15 Nov 1838 at Lagore. Anne died 25 Feb 1885 and was buried at Ratoath.
3 John Thunder second son born circa 1805 was educated at Stonyhurst College and
admitted Kings Inns. He was a solicitor of 43 Rutland Square and died a bachelor
in Bournemouth on 30 Apr 1869. He left 10k in person estate which was left for
the benefit of his brothers and sisters.
4 George Thunder baptised 24 Aug 1807 son or Patrick Thunder and Eliza Taafe at
Ratoath. He married Eliza Pauline Mansfield on 4 Jul 1837 at Morristown Lattin,
Co Kildare. Eliza was the only daughter of Alexander Mansfield and Paulina Lattin.
He was a sheep farmer with 206 acres in Meath and died at Kingston Lodge,
Painstown on 26 Nov 1877 and left 5k in personal estate. Eliza died aged 59 on
6 Apr 1878 at Highfield House, Rathgar.
1 Lattin Alexander Thunder baptised at Ratoath on 18 Nov 1838 died
unmarried on 22 Feb 1900 at Kingstown Lodge.
2 Paulina Thunder born 22 Jan 1840 at Kingstown Lodge baptised 29 Jan 1840.
living with her brother Edmund in Newbridge. She died unmarried
8 May 1907 at Mount Street.
3 Agnes Thunder born February 1841 at Kingstown Lodge baptised 20 Feb 1841
died a spinster at St Vincent's Crescent Fairview on 28 Dec 1893.
4 Ellen Mary Thunder third daughter baptised 25 Apr 1842. She married
William James Ingham on 27 Jun 1871 at the Pro Cathedral. William was the
son of John Stannus Ingham of Lisuamine, Co Cavan. Ellen was a widow living
at Mount Street in 1901.
5 Son Thunder born 4 Dec 1843 at Kingstown Lodge.
6 Eliza Thunder born 16 Jun 1845 at Kingstown Lodge baptised 21 June 1845 at
Beauparc died unmarried 8 Apr 1927 at Drumcondra late of Kingstown Lodge.
7 Mary Thunder born 8 Jun 1846 at Kingstown Lodge living at Mount Street in
1901 died a spinster on 21 Jan 1911.
8 Rosa Alexandrina Thunder born 7 Nov 1847 at Kingstown Lodge baptised
14 Nov 1847 at Beauparc, Co Meath died unmarried on 4 Apr 1924 at Kingstown.
9 Alexander Lattin Thunder baptised 17 Jun 1849 at Beauparc, Meath married
Charlotte Mary Creagh on 25 Jan 1883 at St Mary’s Haddington Road. Alexander
was a Bank Manager and they had seven children of whom five survived in 1911.
Their son George was killed serving in WW1 in 1917.
10 Anna Thunder born circa 1850 died unmarried at Mount Street on 14 Feb 1898.
11 Louisa Thunder baptised 20 Nov 1851 living at Mount Street in 1901. She died
unmarried on 20 May 1917 at Kingstown.
12 William Henry Thunder baptised 27 Oct 1853 at Beauparc.
13 Edmund Thunder baptised 7 Mar 1855 at Beaupark. He was a doctor and died
unmarried at his residence in Newbridge on 5 Jun 1914.
14 John Michael Thunder born 11 Jun 1857 at Kingstown Lodge baptised at
Beaupark on 20 Jun 1857.
5 Henry Thunder fourth son born circa 1809 was educated at Trinity and admitted
Kings Inn. He died a bachelor at Woodville, Mountmellick on 7 Dec 1879 and left 9k in
personal estate.
