George Tate born circa 1829. George was a land steward at Ballywalter when he married
Mary Steadman of Ballywalter at Ballintemple on 26.08.1868. He was a widower and the son
of James Tate, a farmer. All nine of their children survived to adulthood. George died
29.05.1914 at Maudemount, Co Tipperary, his wife the informant. Mary died same place on
14.06.1918, the informant her daughter in law Olivia.
1 John James Tate born 26.02.1869 at Beaufort, Killorglin, Kerry. John of Mount Talbot,
Roscommon married Matilda Parkinson on 20.10.1898 at St Paul’s Church, Heynestown,
Dundalk. Matilda was of Lurgan Green and the daughter of William Parkinson. Matilda
died of phthisis on 17.05.1901 at Fane Valley aged 29.
John, a widower of Fane Valley married secondly Margaret Maharry of Prospect, Dundalk
daughter of Robert Maharry on 07.10.1901 at the Parish Church of Killincoole, Louth. Witnesses
Thomas Tait and Martha Maharry. In 1926 the family lived at Laherne, Cork.
2 Robert James Tate born 19.10.1870 at Beaufort, Killorglin, Kerry. Robert was working as a
coachman at the Rectory, Dundrum, Tipperary when he married Olivia Lord, daughter of
Richard Frederick Lord on 22.04.1903 at the Parish Church, Ballintemple, Tipperary.
Witness Thomas Tate. Only three of their eight children survived in 1911. Robert and
family were still living at Maudmount in 1926, also his niece Marianne Fitzell. Robert died at
the District Hospital late of Maudmount, Dundrum on 06.11.1934.
3 Mary Anne Elizabeth Tate born 01.01.1877 at Maudement, Cashel. Mary Anne married
Richard Frederick Lord a widower of Killorglin son of Patrick Lord on 22.03.1898 at the Parish
Church, Ballintemple, Cashel. Witnesses George Tate and Robert Tate.
4 Thomas Tate born 23.02.1880 at Maudemount. Thomas was working as a gardener in 1901
at Clonard, Dundrum for Dorcas Smith. Thomas a gardener at Dunleckey Manor,
Bagenalstown married Violet McLeod on 09.04.1907 at the Parish Church of St Matthias. Violet
of Erith Lodge, Ringsend was the daughter of John McLeod, witnesses Elizabeth Waller and
Rachel Tait. In 1911 the family lived in Dunleckney, Carlow. Violet died aged 32 at the Palace
Gardens, Tuam in 1918, her husband the informant.
5 George Tate born 23.02.1880 at Maudement was working as a gardener’s assistant at Clonard in
1901. George a gardener was employed at Furry Park, Raheny when he married Sarah Eleanor
Bradley of San Elms, Dalkey on 17.09.1912 at Dalkey Parish Church. Sarah was the daughter of
John Bradley. They lived at the Gate Lodge of Furry Park and George worked for Major
Featherstone Whitney. George disturbed an intruder at his home, the gate lodge of Furry Park.
The fifteen year old intruder Patrick Wall, shot him in the chest and he died later that day on
23.11.1912 at Jervis Street Hospital. The intruder was later convicted of manslaughter and
sentenced to three years at Clonmel Borstal Institution. Sarah took a case against Major Whitney
as her husband died while in his employ and received £75 in compensation.
6 John Tate born 31.03.1882 at Maudement.
7 Ellen Bess Tate born 07.07.1884 at Maudement. Ellen was living at home with her parents in
1901. She married Peter Michael Fitzell on 26.02.1908 at Ardfert Parish Church, Tralee, Kerry.
Peter was a widower and the son of Henry Fitzell. Informant Richard F Lord. Ellen died on
10.08.1915 aged 30 years at East Commons, Ardfert.
8 Sarah Rachel Tate born 28.01.1887 at Maudement. Sarah was a parlourmaid working for the
Waller family in Limerick in 1911.
9 Susan Elizabeth Tate born 20.01.1890 at Maudement. Susan was living at home with her
parents in 1901. Susan aged 21 in 1911 was working as a parloumaid for the Ashurst family in
Carrigaline.
