George Stapleton born circa 1778 son of Michael Stapleton, plasterer and famous stuccodore
and his wife Frances Todderick (married 26 Jul 1774). His father was also a developer and
builder who by 1793 had leases on a number of properties in Mountjoy Square South for which
he stated that the building work of the house was under his supervision. His father died in
1801 and George took over the management of the properties. He also had houses at Great
Britain Street and Gardiner Street.
George married Anastasia (Anna) Bodkin of Annagh Galway on 4 Aug 1806. Anna is thought to
be the daughter of Nicholas Bodkin of Galway. The service was at the home of John Pepper of
Mountjoy Square and the marriage was registered at the Pro Cathedral. The family continued to
live at George’s family home at 1 Mountjoy Place. He was treasurer to the National Eye Infirmary.
George retired in 1829 and the family were at Casino from 1830 to 1842. His mother died at
Merrion Square in December 1839. George died 26 Jul 1841 at Casino. The household furniture
and his effects were sold through John Littledale auctioneers in 1842. Anna died 21 Feb 1858.

James Nugent at Casino in September 1837. James was the son of Edmund Nugent and
Teresa Geoghegan. James Count Nugent died on 16 Apr 1867 aged 60 at 4 Mount
Pleasant Square and was buried at Glasnevin. Countess Olivia died 16 Mar 1887 at Our
Lady’s Hospice, Harold's Cross and was buried with her husband. Her daughter Mary
and Olivia her executors.

2 Daughter Nugent born October 1840 at Balnacor, Co Westmeath.
3 Armanda Mary Joseph Nugent third daughter was living at Mount Pleasant and
married Edward Joseph Nugent on 5 Nov 1884 at the Church of Our Lady of Refuge,
Rathmines. Edward was the son of the late James Nugent of Streamstown House,
Co Westmeath.
4 Son and heir Nugent born 11 Feb 1842 at Balnacor, Co Westmeath.
5 Mary Josephine Nugent living at 4 Mount Pleasant Square in 1887 died unmarried at
Our Lady’s Hospice late of 20 Guliston Terrace on 28 May 1910. She was buried at
Glasnevin and left 8k in personal estate.
6 James Joseph Nugent died on 1 May 1882, in Ipswick, Queensland, Australia, his
brother Edward his executor.
7 Edward Joseph Nugent was a banker and married Mary Jane O’Brien, on 21 Nov 1876.
8 Olivia M Nugent living at 4 Mount Pleasant Square in 1887. She died unmarried on
23 Mar 1931 and was buried at Glasnevin.
2 Michael Harry Stapleton baptised at the Pro Cathedral on 7 May 1807. He was educated
at Trinity College. He was a surgeon to Jervis Street Hospital and a fellow of the Royal
College of Surgeons. He married Armanda Hester Cramer at the Pro Cathedral on
2 Feb 1843. Armanda was the second daughter of the late Thomas Cramer of Paris. He
was a professor of anatomy at the Catholic University of Ireland and one of the five
surgeons appointed to the newly opened Mater Misericordiae Hospital in 1861. He was
an honorary member of the RHA. Michael died at 1 Mountjoy Place on 30 Mar 1880 and
was buried at Glasnevin. Armanda died on 16 Sep 1904 at the Richmond Hospital aged 91
and was buried with her husband.
1 George Cramer Stapleton born circa 1846 was a solicitor. He married Frances O’Reilly
in 1873. Frances died 8 May 1884 at 37 Fitzwilliam Place. George secondly married
Lilly D’Alton on 11 Oct 1887. He died in 1921.

J Nugent on 31 Mar 1845 at Mountjoy Place.
4 George Stapleton second son baptised at the Pro Cathedral on 1 Nov 1809. He was
educated at Clongowes admitted Kings Inns. He practiced from 28 College Green with his
brother Edward in 1871. George died at Rathmines on 31 Mar 1887.
5 Maria Teresa Stapleton baptised at the Pro Cathedral on 17 Mar 1811. She married William
Conlan of Barton Lodge, Co Dublin on 8 Jul 1830 at Casino, the marriage was registered at
the Pro Cathedral. William was the son of the late William Conlon and had a Brewery on
New Row and they lived at Barton Lodge on what is now Barton Drive.

8 Edward Thomas Stapleton youngest son baptised at the Pro Cathedral on 3 Nov 1818. He
was an attorney of 1 Dame Street and married Jane FitzHerbert Brockholes on 8 Jan 1853
at the church of St Nicholas, Copperas Hill, Merseyside. Jane was the younger daughter of
Charles Fitzherbert Brockholes of Claughton, Lancashire. Jane Mary died aged 21 on
6 Mar 1853 at 75 Lower Mount Street.
He secondly married Ellen Lynch on 3 Sep 1855 at Renmore. Ellen was the third daughter
of P M Lynch of Duras Park, Galway. He practiced from 28 College Green with his brother
George in 1871. Ellen died at 2 Clifton Terrace, Monkstown on 22 Jan 1892 aged 60 and
was buried at Glasnevin. Edward died 5 Jan 1901 at Fitzwilliam Place and was buried with
his wife.
1 Edward Fitzgerald Stapleton was an MD and died 13 Aug 1905 at Roehampton and
left 14k in personal estate late of 27 Fitzwilliam Place.
