Sir Richard Jones of Clonmel
Richard Jones married Elizabeth Hilton

Richard Jones a JP. He was knighted circa 1790 and according to Rev William P Burke, this
knighthood was bestowed by the Lord Lieutenant whilst drunk. ‘The honour, however, was
recalled the following day, but it was too late, for Lady Jones had already communicated
with her friends.’* Sir Richard died January 1824 at Clonmel and was buried on 22 Jan 1824
at Clogher. He was survived by his widow and 15 of his 23 children. Lady Jones died at her
house on the Quay, Clonmel in December 1825.
1 Morgan Jones eldest son died 18 Mar 1862 at Clonmel.
2 Thomas Jones second son. He was JP and a lieutenant Colonel in the 14th Light
Dragoons and died 19 Oct 1863 at William Street, Kilkenny.
3 Deborah Jones eldest daughter died 27 Nov 1844 at Clonmel and was buried at Clogher.
4 George Jones of Clonmel born circa 1787. He was a collector of customs at Plymouth and
married Hannah Burne. Later they lived at Anner Park where Hannah died on
19 May 1859. George died 30 Aug 1872 at Anner Park, Clonmel and was buried at Clogher.
His will was administered by his nephew, William Robertson Jones.
5 William Jones born circa 1793. As only surviving son he died a bachelor on 4 Nov 1873 at 21
Ely Place, Dublin. He was buried 6 Nov 1873 Clogher, aged 80 years.
6 Eliza Jones born circa 1795 married Edwin Taylor, JP of Clogheen, in June 1830 at Rathronan
Church near Clonmel. Edwin Taylor was the land agent to Lord Lismore. Eliza died in
September 1875 and was buried at Clogheen.
7 Joseph Jones died 25 Dec 1859 at Clonmel.
8 Mary Jones third daughter married Richard Labarte at Abbey Church, Killoloan in August
1828. Mary died in 1830 in Clonmel.
9 Joshua Jones born circa 1798 was living at 20 Bachelor's Walk, Dublin, and was clerk in the
office of examiner of permits and certificates, revenue department in 1821. He married
Anne Butler 29 Oct 1841 at St Peter’s Clonmel. Anne was the widow of Alexander Butler.
Joshua died at Great Charles Street on 31 Jan 1872.
10 Edward Jones youngest and 10th son born circa 1799. He was admitted Kings Inns. He died
4 Apr 1854 and was buried at Clogher.
11 Susan Jones youngest daughter born circa 1803 died a spinster on 16 Mar 1883 at
Morehampton Terrace and was buried at Mount Jerome.
