John Sheppey married Jane Drury
born circa 1717
died 15 Sep1791 died circa 1800
John Sheppy married Jane Drury. Jane was the daughter of Rev Edward Drury, DD and his wife
Mary Maule. John was the nephew of Waterhouse Sheppey and Jane was the sister of Admiral
William O'Brien Drury who married Leticia Preston Vallency. John was the deputy Customer
and Collector of the Port of Dublin in 1773. They lived at Rockfield, Kilmacud where John died
15 Sep 1791. His will mentions his wife, daughter Elizabeth and two granddaughters (sisters)
Flora & Charlotte Sheppey. The interest in the lease at Rockfield, Kilmacud on 43 acres was
put up for sale in 1793 with enquiries to be made to Sir George Ribton. Jane died circa 1800.

2 Rose Sheppy baptised 6 Nov 1748 at St Mary’s Church daughter of John and Jane?
3 Waterhouse Sheppy baptised on 26 Jul 1749 at St Mary’s Church son of John and Jane?
4 Jane Emilia Sheppey born circa 1755 married widower Sir George Ribton of Grove,
Stillorgan in late 1781. They moved to Landscape, Rathfarnham by 1783 and had at least
nine children. George died in June 1806 and is buried at St James’s. Landscape on 42
acres was put up for sale after his death. Jane died on 14 Aug 1849 aged 94 years was
buried at St James’s.
5 Elizabeth Sheppey of Rockfield, Stillorgan married Rev James Hastings on 2 Jun 1785 (ML).
6 Charlotta Sheppey third daughter married Captain James Drury in October 1784. James
was a captain in HM 23rd Regiment Welch Fusiliers. James a paymaster in the army died
circa 1812.
1 Juliana Drury, third daughter and niece of the late Admiral O’Brien Drury married Dr
George Ribton on 20 Mar 1824 at St George’s Church, Dublin. She died in 1834.
7 Drury Sheppey son of John worked at the Custom House. He married Elizabeth Newburg
on 12 Sep 1773 at St Michans. Elizabeth was the sister of Brockhill Newburg, head of the
Linen Board. Drury was in bad circumstances and went to the South of France for the
benefit of his health and to avoid creditors. He died in 1777 in France. As his death was in
the lifetime of his father his life insurance did not pay out.
