Michael Sexton born circa 1804 married Mary McMahon. Michael was a grocer and vintner
and held the licence for premises known as Sextons in Dromartin, Goatstown from 1847.
He contributed to the Papal tribute fund in 1860, the O’Connell statue in Clare fund in 1862.
He also contributed and the Cholera Relief fund in 1866 and the Deaf & Dumb Institute in
Cabra in 1868. Michael died 12 Jan 1874, informant Patrick Hussey of Rosemount. He left
4K in personal estate. His property (2 residences built in the Swiss style, no 10 and 12
Strand Road, Merrion close to Benson’s Baths) were put up for sale after his death. Mary
died 28 Jul 1879 at Rosemount and left £100 in personal estate. The informant Patrick
Hussey. Both are buried at Glasnevin.
1 William Sexton born circa 1841 married Elizabeth Moran on 22 Jan 1872 at SS Mary &
Peter in Rathmines. Elizabeth was resident at Longwood Avenue and the daughter of
Patrick Moran, a clerk and his wife Johanna Connolly. William held the licence in 1874.
He died at Goatstown on 25 Jan 1875 and the licence was transferred to his widow
Elizabeth. Elizabeth died 29 Apr 1878 at Dromartin and was buried at Glasnevin.
