Edward Sankey born circa 1702. He was a merchant of Dame Street and importer of
mineral waters married Mary Medlicott on 29 April 1738 at St Andrews. He later had
premises at Grafton Street. Edward was elected alderman in 1761 and Mayor of Dublin
in 1766/7. He had a house at 17 Stephen’s Green and his country residence was The Lodge,
Booterstown Lane. He died on 17 Mar 1786 at 17 Stephen’s Green and is buried at
Donnybrook. The house in Booterstown with five acres was put up for let after his death.
Mary died 27 Dec 1788 at St Stephen's Green and is buried at Donnybrook.
1 Thomas Sankey married Deborah Jones. Deborah was the daughter of Richard Jones
of Oatlands in Co Wexford.
1 Richard Jones Sankey was a Lieutenant Colonel in City of Dublin Militia. He
married Jane Smith in April 1802 at Cork. He died on 27 Jan 1839 at Talbot
Lodge, late of Merrion Square, Dublin, formerly of Oaklands, County Wexford.
Sarah died 12 Oct 1860 aged 82 at Talbot Lodge and left 18K in personal
estate. No issue found.
2 Henry Gore Sankey born circa 1756 was a colonel in the Royal Dublin militia and a
wine merchant of 77 Grafton Street. He married Barbara Sneyd on 23 May 1776 at St
Bride’s. He was an alderman and elected Mayor of Dublin in 1791. Henry of Rutland
Square and Fort Frederick in Co Cavan died in October 1821. Barbara died at Rutland
Square on 8 Mar 1839.
1 Ellen Sankey born circa 1791. She married Robert Scott, a barrister in March
1823 in Dublin.
2 Mary Sankey second daughter born circa 1793 married widower William
Drummond Delap (later Dunlop) of Monasterboice House, Co Louth in July 1845.
William died on 8 Mar 1873 and as last surviving daughter Mary died on
13 Nov 1877 at Leeson Street.
3 Barbara Sankey youngest daughter born circa 1795 died in 1845 at 6 Rutland
Square.
3 John Sankey was a major in the Royal Dublin Militia. He married Margery Sneyd on
7 Oct 1782 at St Mark’s Church. Margery was the daughter of the Rev William Sneyd.
They lived at Fitzwilliam Square. John died in January 1821 at Fitzwilliam Square and
Margery died at Upper Mount Street on 26 Jun 1835.
1 Maria Sankey married the Rev John Brown on 23 Dec 1831 at St Peters.
2 Eleanor Sankey married Richard Scott in March 1823. Richard was a
barrister and the son of James Scott of Willsborough, Co Derry and his wife
Catherine Leslie. Eleanor died 2 Sep 1827.
3 Elizabeth Sankey second daughter died at Kildare on 24 Sep 1842.
4 Samuel Sankey eldest son was a major in the Royal Dublin Militia. He married
Mary Anderson on 21 Jan 1841 at St George’s Church. Mary was the daughter
of David Anderson. He served under the Duke of Wellington with the 9th
Regiment during the peninsular wars. Samuel died at Merrion Square on
11 Jul 1861 and left 15K in personal estate. Mary died 27 Jan 1888 at 70 Merrion
Square and left 22K in personal estate. Probate to her son Henry.
1 Alexander William Jackson Sankey born circa 1842. He was the
owner of Fort Frederick in Virginia, Co Cavan and had an estate in
Cork also. He died a bachelor at Portobello House on 15 Jul 1903.
He was buried at Virginia Churchyard. He left 12K in personal
estate and probate was to Vernon Fane.
2 Henry Samuel (Harry) Sankey born circa 1844. He married Laura
Fanny Maria Selby-Lowndes on 25 Jun 1913 at St Gabriel’s Church,
Warwick Square. He died 5 Dec 1925 at Wellington Road and left
78K in personal estate. Laura died 26 Jan 1958; both are buried at
Virginia parish graveyard.
3 Margery Theodora Sankey born circa 1846 living with her brother
Harry in 1911. She died unmarried at 70 Merrion Square on
30 Apr 1922.
5 John Sankey youngest son born 3 Feb 1795 graduated Trinity and was admitted
Kings Inns. He was a barrister and married Frances Gore on 12 Dec 1834 at Taney.
Frances was the second daughter of Hon Rev George Gore, Dean of Killala. They
attended lots of balls, including the Viceregal balls when Frances’ attire and jewels
were usually described in detail. John died 2 Jan 1873 at 25 Merrion Square. He
left personal estate of 2K and probate was to his wife and his son Richard.
Frances died on 14 Feb 1898 at 63 Merrion Square.
1 Anne Sankey born 9 Dec 1835 at Mount Street baptised at St Peters. She
unmarried and living at Merrion Square in 1901 with her brother Richard.
2 Margery Eliza Sankey second daughter born 20 Feb 1837 at Upper Mount
Street baptised at St Peters. She died at spinster at Bath on 5 Apr 1930 as
last surviving daughter.
3 Frances Sophia Sankey born 6 Dec 1838 at Lower Mount Street baptised at
St Peters died unmarried 31 Dec 1907 at 63 Merrion Square.
4 Richard Jones Sankey born at Lower Mount Street on 19 Feb 1840 baptised
at St Peters. He was a captain in the 5th Dragoon Guards living at 63
Merrion Square when he married Alice Maude Saunders-Knox- Gore on
27 Apr 1905 at Ardnaree Church, Ballina. Alice who was 30 years his junior
was the daughter of late Major General William Saunders- Gore-Knox of
Belleek Manor, Ballina and Ardmore, Torquay. They were in Merrion Square
during the rising and Maude kept a diary of the events as they unfolded
(manuscripts department of the National Library of Ireland). 63 Merrion
Square was put up for sale in 1917. Richard died 6 Dec 1920 in Somerset.

6 Henry Gore Sankey born at Lower Mount Street on 8 Aug 1844 baptised at
St Peters died 26 Feb 1852 at Talbot Lodge.

Talbot Lodge.
