Robert Vickers Dixon born 17.10.1855 at 3 Heytesbury Terrace. He was the eldest son of
George Dixon and Rebecca Yeates. He graduated Trinity College and married Charlotte
Julia Jones of 43 Stephens Green East on 11 Jul 1883 at St Matthias’s Church. Charlotte
was the eldest daughter of the architect Alfred Gresham Jones and Julia Charlotte Malyn.
Alfred Jones designed the French Ambassador’s Residence on Ailesbury Road.
Robert was a soap manufacturer and they lived at Morehampton Road in 1901 and at
Wellington Road, Dublin in 1911. They had five children and all had survived in 1911. He
was admitted to the Chamber of Commerce in 1911 and was on the board of the Molyneux
Asylum for Blind Females in 1912. Charlotte died 23 Oct 1926 aged 71 at 4 Wellington.
Robert died a widower 25 Sep 1931 at 4 Wellington Road. Both are buried at Mount
Jerome.
1 Robert Vickers Dixon eldest son born 21 Aug 1884 at 13 Belgrave Square. He was
living at 4 Wellington Road in 1906 and was admitted a freeman. He was a civil
medical office at Kurseong and married Hilda Gertrude Irwin on 12 Feb 1914 at
Kurseong, Bengal. Hilda was the daughter of Henry Raikes Alexander Irwin. He
died in a riding accident at Darjeeling on 6 Apr 1918. He was buried in India and
was survived by his wife.
2 Walter Malyn Dixon born 8 Sep 1886 at 13 Belgrave Square graduated Trinity College.
He was a soap maker and married Lilian May Holdbrook on 20 Jul 1920 at Christ
Church Leeson Park. Walter died suddenly on 29 Sep 1920 at 25 Adelaide Road, his
father the informant. Lilian died 4 Apr 1971. Both are buried at Mount Jerome.
3 Charlotte Margery Dixon born 16 Sep 1888 at 13 Belgrave Square. She died unmarried
on 25 Jan 1965 at the Adelaide Hospital late of Wellington Road and was buried at
Mount Jerome with her parents.
4 Geoffrey Francis Dixon born 4 Jul 1891 at 13 Belgrave Square. He was admitted a
freeman of the city in 1912. Geoffrey enlisted with the Indian Army and was with the
Camel Corps. He died of pneumonia on 1 Aug 1918 while on active service in Persia. He
is remembered on the Ireland, National Roll Of Honour and on the Tehran Memorial in
Iran. Probate was carried out by his father in 1920.
5 Reginald Malyn Dixon born 14 Aug 1893 at 58 Morehampton Road. He enlisted and
served with the Royal Engineers during WW1 and attained the rank of captain. He
received the Silver War Badge and the military Cross in 1917. He was an engineer on the
Baghdad Railway in 1921. He married Olive Rushbrook Bullor at Brixton, Surrey on
14 Feb 1923 and they moved to Sandycove Avenue. He became the proprietor of Dixons
Soap Manufacturing of Lower Erne Street on the death of his father. He lived at
Drummartin House from 1942 to 1948. He won the Domvile Challenge Cup for best
dairy Shorthorn in 1946 and a Spring Show award at the RDS the following three years.
Reginald sold the equipment and premises at Erne Street in 1951. They were living at
114 Merrion Road in 1949. Reginald died in Bermondsey in January 1965 and was
buried in London. Olive died 26 Jun 1982 and was buried in the family plot at Mount
Jerome.
1 Maureen Rushbrook Dixon elder daughter born 27 Nov 1923 at Lower Baggot
Street. She married Arthur O’Neill on 29 Jun 1951 at St Bartholomew’s Church,
Clyde Road. Arthur was the second son of A J O’Neil of Rathbane, Limerick.
Maureen was an executor of the Will of Charlotte Marjory Dixon.
2 Erica Elizabeth Dixon youngest daughter born circa 1924 in Dublin married
Hastings Elliott Jephson, BA, BAI at St John’s Sandymount on 14 Feb 1950. John
was the elder son of G H Jephson of Prospect, Waterford.
