Alfred Roberts born 22.01.1833 son of Samuel Roberts and Anne Rhodes. His father, originally
from Cork, became a master builder and the developer of Tivoli Avenue (now Appian Way,
Dublin). He married Lucy Calvert on 01.06.1859 at the Friends Meeting House at
Monkstown. Lucy was the daughter of William Calvert and Lydia Pattison of Seafield Avenue,
Monkstown. Alfred was a house builder and was in partnership with his father and his brother
William Rhodes. In 1864 Alfred and his brother went into business on their own account and
traded as W & A Roberts at Grand Canal Street. Alfred and Lucy lived at Leeson Park before
moving to Ardmore in Killiney. Alfred died 26.11.1889 at Killiney, the informant Lucy Roberts.
Lucy moved to Campfield, Dundrum in 1895 and then to Northbrook Road in 1900. She died
14.01.1914 at 1 Northbrook Road, the informant W Roberts.
1 William Calvert Roberts born 05.03.1861 at 1 Burlington Place, Dublin. William a builder
and architect of Grand Canal Street went into partnership with his uncle William after
the death of his father. He lived at Hatch street and moved to Campfield House in 1895.
He moved to Northbrook Road with his mother in 1900. He died unmarried on
10.12.1937 at 42 Leeson Park and is buried at Temple Hill, Blackrock. Informant Ellen A

2 Arthur Roberts born 04.03.1863 at Leeson Park Road died of scarlatina on 12.02.1871
aged 8 years at Dromana, Leeson Park, Dublin. Informant Alfred Roberts.
3 Lydia Calvert Roberts born 04.12.1864 at Dromana and died of peritonitis on 08.11.1885
aged 20 years at Killiney. Informant Lucy Roberts.
4 Isabel Roberts born 29.08.1866 and died unmarried of typhoid fever on 19.02.1891 aged
24 years at 16 Hatch Street. Informant Elizabeth Roberts.
5 Wilfred Roberts born 22.06.1868 and died of Scarlatina on 20.02.1871 aged 2 years 8
months at Dromana, Leeson Park, Dublin.
6 Herbert Roberts born 17.08.1870 was a painter and a partner in Roberts & Co, painters
and Decorators of Baggot Street. He lived at Campfield House from 1895 to 1900. He
died by drowning on 01.04.1907 aged 36 years off Howth Head. Informant brother W C
Roberts. Albert Pearson, Herbert Greene and George Halliday also drowned.
7 Ethel Roberts born 19.06.1872 at 5 Appian Way died 19.09.1874 aged 2 years 3 months
at Ardmore, Killiney.
8 Emma Roberts born 01.12.1876 at Ardmore, Killiney now of Campfield House married John
Edward Walpole of Chester 2nd son of Joseph Walpole of Ashbrook, Abbeyleix on
10.08.1899 at the Friends Meeting House, Churchtown. Witnesses Thomas Edmondson and
James Roberts. They went to live in Chester.
