James John Redmond born circa 1822 son of Lawrence Redmond, a merchant of Belmont
Lodge, Sandford and Elizbeth Kelly. He was educated at Trinity College and admitted Kings Inns.
He was living at Artane Lodge and married Anne Mary Warren at St Michan’s, North Anne Street
on 21 April 1858. Anne was the eldest daughter of Christopher M Warren and Jane Clarke of
21 Upper Ormond Quay. He was a solicitor but worked at a pawn broker from 118 Lower
Abbey Street and 25 Mary’s Abbey. His name did not appear over the door initially because as
a profession person he had difficulty in getting a pawn brokers licence. He was a town
councillor for the North City Ward from 1869. They lived at Trimbleston Lodge, Roebuck from
1865. James died 6 Mar 1881 at 118 Upper Abbey Street and was buried at Glasnevin. His
brother in law Francis Warren the informant. Anne was living at Minnowbrook Terrace,
Terenure in 1893. Anne Mary died 25 Sep 1906 at Mount-town House, Kingstown, the residence
of her son in law. Her daughter Mary Jane Kavanagh the informant. She was buried at
Glasnevin.
1 Laurence Joseph Redmond eldest son born circa 1860 died 25 Mar 1878 at
Trimbleston Lodge, Roebuck. He was buried at Glasnevin.
2 Charles Warren Redmond born circa 1862. As only surviving son he married Caroline
Smith of Harcourt Street on 20 Feb 1884 at the Church of St Kevin, Harrington Street.
Charles was a merchant living at 118 Upper Abbey Street and Caroline of 62 Harcourt
Street was the daughter of the late Francis Smith, a merchant and Margaret McEvoy. They
moved to Leinster Square and later to Highfield Road in Rathgar and Charles worked as
a book-keeper.
1 Mary Caroline born 2 Dec 1884 at Grove Road baptised at Rathmines. As only
daughter she died 4 Jan 1894 at Liverpool from typhoid. She was buried at
Glasnevin.
2 James Charles Redmond born 22 Jul 1886 at 34 Leinster Square, Rathmines.
3 Mary Jane Redmond only daughter born circa 1863 married William George Kavanagh,
MA TCD on 3 Sep 1893 at the Franciscan Church, Drogheda. William was a gun and
ammunition manufacturer of 12 Dame Street and the eldest son of the late William
Kavanagh, North Richmond Street. They had three children of whom two survived in
1911. William died 18 Dec 1938 at Elphis Nursing Home late of Cove House, Sandycove
aged 76. He left 8k in personal estate and was buried at Glasnevin.
1 George Charles McMurrough Kavanagh born 29 May 1896 at Minnow Brook,
Terenure. He was a captain in the Royal Engineer, Sudan Defence Force. He
married Kathleen Sheila Kelly in 1932 in London. Kathleen was the younger
daughter of Hartford Kelly of Arnoldville, Monkstown
2 Desmond McMurrough Joseph Kavanagh born 7 Jun 1898 at Minnowbrook,
Terenure baptised at St Joseph’s, Terenure. He was a survey and lived at 1
Burlington Road. He married Mabel Katherine Devine on 9 Sep 1942 at Chapelizod
Church. Mabel was the daughter of Francis Devine.
4 Denis Edward Redmond born 16 Dec 1864 died an infant on 31 Dec 1864 at Trimbleston
Lodge, Roebuck.
