John Quanlan born circa 1776. He was the proprietor of Quinlan & Son, paper stainers, house
painters and decorators and they also offered a gilding service. They had premises at 5/6
Aungier Street, Dublin and lived at Idrone House, Newtown Avenue from 1842. Bridget died
03.12.1849 at Newtown Avenue and was buried at Glasnevin. The firm took on reburbishment
of houses to sell on and they redecorated the Theatre Royal in 1858. John died at Idrone
House, Blackrock on 17.11.1860 and was buried with his wife, probate to his children Robert
and Anne.
1 Robert Quinlan eldest son born circa 1806. He lived at Idrone House from 1843 to 1864.
He died on 17.07.1869 aged 63 years at his residence 6 Aungier Street, Dublin and is
buried at Glasnevin. Probate to his sister Anne Jane Quinlan. The premises, stock in
trade and business were put up for sale after his death. Robert O’Connell bought the
business and premises and continued to trade from Aungier Street.
2 Frances Quinlan born circa 1808 married John Frederic Byrne son of Patrick Byrne
architect on 07.05.1842 at Booterstown Roman Catholic Church.
3 James William Quinlan born circa 1813 was admitted Kings Inns. He was a solicitor
based at King Street, Dublin. He married Elizabeth Marianna (Bessie) Gordon on
21.09.1858 at Dalkey Church. Bessie was the daughter of William Gordon, late Captain
in the 2nd Queens Royals. James died 13.06.1877 at 55 South Richmond Street fomerly
of Idrone House and was buried ar Glasnevin. He left 10k in personal estate, probate to
his widow.
4 John Quinlan 2nd son born circa 1814 died on 03.10.1843 aged 29 at Newtown Avenue
and is buried at Glasnevin.
5 Margaret Quinlan born circa 1815 died of consumption on 15.06.1834 of Aungier Street.
6 Anne Quinlan born circa 1816 as eldest surviving daughter died unmarried on 23.07.1876
aged 60 years at 16 North Frederick Street formerly of Idrone House and is buried at
Glasnevin. Probate to her sister Eliza.
7 Eliza Quinlan youngest daughter born circa 1832 married Alderman Frederick Gurnell
Hamilton on 09.06.1870 at St Kevin’s Catholic Church. John was a widower and the son of
George Hamilton and Maria Anna Newman. (His wife Charlotte had died 05.04.1862 aged
34 years). Eliza died on 09.02.1890 aged 58 years and Frederick died on 27.05.1892 both at
their residence 26 Northumberland Avenue, Kingstown and they are buried at Glasnevin.
