John Thomas Quill born circa 1793 joined the 15th Regiment of Foot. He married Lucinda
(Lucy) Mahony on 15 Oct 1822 in Killarney. Lucinda was the eldest daughter of the late John
Mahony of the Kerry Militia. Lieutenant Quill was based in Callan and transferred to
Birmingham in 1836 in charge of the recruiting service. He was promoted Captain in 1838
and rejoined his corps. They lived at Anna Villa, Blackrock from 1846 to 1847 and were at
Brookfield Avenue in 1849. John a late captain in the 82nd Regiment died December 1853
at Blackrock aged 60 and is buried at Glasnevin. Lucinda died 1 Jan 1859 at Kingstown aged
60 and is buried at Glasnevin.
1 John Mahony Quill baptised 7 Aug 1825 in Kerry graduated Trinity. He married Ann
Jane McNaul at Ballywillian, Antrim on 21 Jun 1855. Ann was the daughter of the late
John McNaul, farmer. John, a merchant and distiller died 20 Mar 1909 at Gloucester
aged 84.
2 Thomas Mahony Quill born circa 1829 in Mauritius. He was a civil engineer and
married Margaret Gidley Bell at Braddan, Isle of Man on 23 Apr 1863. Margaret was
the daughter of James Bell. They were living in Wangford, Suffolk in 1871. By 1891
they were living in Hammersmith. No issue found. As second surviving son Thomas
died at St Leonards on Sea on 27 Jan 1900, late of Hammersmith. His wife Margaret
and brother Arthur were his executors. Margaret died on 25 Nov 1905 at
Hammersmith, probate to her brother in law Arthur.
3 Richard Quill baptised in Kerry on 20 Jan 1833.
4 Arthur Saunders Quill born 11 Oct 1834 in Scotland. He entered the army and was with
the Royal Newfoundland Companies and attained the rank of colonel. He married Mary
Josephine Hawe circa 1860 and had at least four children. Mary was the daughter of
Arthur Saunders Hawe. They were living in Ripley, Guildford, Surrey in 1901. Arthur
died 30 Aug 1909 and left 4k in personal estate, probate to Arthur Maxwell Quill. Mary
died in 1910 aged 76.

parents in 1901.
2 Thomas Henry Quill born 22 Sep 1880 in Fulham living with his parents in 1901.
5 Anna Zenobia (Annie) Quill only daughter born 22 Jul 1838, baptised in Birmingham. As
only daughter she married Patrick Maxwell of North Great Georges Street on 29 Sep 1860
at Dunloe, Co Kerry. Patrick was a solicitor of Great George’s Street and a senior in the
firm of Maxwell and Weldon. His sister Maria was married to James Anthony Weldon.
Patrick was president of the Incorporated Law Society of Ireland 1886/7 and was knighted
in 1887. He died aged 79 on 15 Jan 1897 at 37 North Great George’s Street and is buried
at Glasnevin. He was survived by at least four sons and two daughters. Annie was living
with three of her children at George’s Street in 1901. Anna died 10 May 1914 at Hotel
Beau Sejour Ansereneme, Belgium.
6 Gerrard Quill born circa 1842. An ex sub inspector of police, he died a bachelor on
9 Aug 1880 at the Mercy Hospital, Cork.
7 Daughter Quill born 26 Jun 1844 at Bengal Terrace, Limerick died before 1860.
