William Pickering of Hampstead, Middlesex born circa 1767. He married Mary Reynolds on
6 May 1792 in Surrey. They were in Dublin by 1810. William Pickering, a book, paper and
stationer of 8 Ormond Quay, Dublin also printed books. He had paper mills at Millmount and
Great Newtown, Rathfarnham. He died 13 Nov 1825 at Ormond Quay and was buried at St
Mary’s. Mary died 16 Jul 1828 and was buried at St Marys.
1 Elizabeth Pickering married William Phair on 10 Aug 1815 at St Marys. William was the
son of William and Elizabeth Phair of Cork.
2 William Pickering junior eldest son died at Ormond Quay in January 1820 and was buried
at St Marys.
3 John Pickering born circa 1798 as eldest son died 27 Apr 1831 in Dublin and was buried at
St Marys.
4 Thomas Pickering married Mary Caldbeck on 14 Aug 1811 at St Mary’s. Mary was the
daughter of William Caldbeck of Crumlin. Thomas was a size and water flock merchant of
134 James’ Street West and Mount Down, near Crumlin. He was churchwarden of St
James’s Church in 1832/3. He was insolvent in 1837 and both his residences and stock were
sold. He died 13 Jul 1844 at Carysfort Avenue.
5 Charles Pickering born circa 1800 educated at Bromley, Middlesex. He was admitted Kings
Inns. Charles married Jane Cuffe in October 1827 at Kilbeggan. Jane was the third daughter
of Charles Cuffe of Kilbeggan, Co Westmeath. He had offices at 11 Upper Ormond Quay and
later at 30 Dame Street. He lived at Rokeby from 1833 to 1847. He as a church warden of
Taney in 1848 and in 1858. They lived at Roebuck Grove from 1848 to 1872 when it was put
up for sale and they moved to Ailesbury Road. Charles opened new office premises at 29
Eustace Street circa 1862. Charles died at Ailesbury Road 28 Jan 1878 at 17 Ailesbury Road
and was buried at Mount Jerome. Jane died 30 Apr 1879 at Rathgar Terrace.
1 Mary Pickering eldest daughter born 31 Jul 1828 at 17 Lower Ormond Quay. She married
James Cooper Cooper on 10 Aug 1847 at Rathfarnham Church. James was of Cooper
Hill, Co Limerick and the son of the late Christopher Tuthill. They had at least five children
and Mary died 27 Feb 1877 at Cooper Hill.
2 Jane Adelaide Pickering born Christmas Day 1829 at Lower Ormond Quay. She married
Charles Furlong Harding on 19 Feb 1856 at Taney Church. Charles from Charleville, Co
Cork was a lieutenant in the Royal South Downshire Militia.
3 Charles Litton Pickering eldest son born 26 Oct 1833 at Rokeby died 13 Nov 1844 at
Rathgar Road.
4 Sarah Pickering married John McDonald Royse on 13 Sep 1853 at Taney Church. John was
the son of Thomas H F Royse.
5 Elizabeth Pickering born 30 Nov 1835 at Rokeby, near Rathgar Road. She died unmarried
as last surviving child at Bray on 16 Mar 1914.
6 William Cuffe Pickering born April 1839 at Rokeby admitted Kings Inns. He was listed as a
solicitor living at Roebuck Grove in 1871/2. He died a bachelor at 17 Ailesbury Road on
8 Mar 1876.
7 Emma Victoria Pickering, third daughter 13 Oct 1840 at Rokeby. As youngest surviving
daughter she died 19 Jan 1864 at Roebuck Grove.
8 Adelaide Louisa Pickering, fifth daughter born 8 Jun 1843 at Rokeby died 8 Apr 1860 Hyeres,
France.
9 Albert Charles Pilkington born 27 Jun 1845 at Rokeby, Rathgar. As only surviving son, he
was admitted solicitor on the death of his father and brother in 1879 to transfer over the
business but moved to Australia shortly afterwards. He died 20 May 1906 in Brisbane from
Malaria.
6 Francis Pickering born circa 1803 was a paper manufacture of Merchants Quay. He lived in
Merrion, Co Dublin and married Sarah Joyce in 1827. As youngest son he died at Janeville,
Merrion Terrace on 13 May 1848 and was buried at St Marys.
1 William Joyce Pickering born circa 1831 was a clerk to his uncle Charles. He was
admitted Kings Inns in 1858.
2 Anne Elizabeth Pickering born circa 1840 died 24 August 1853 at Merrion and was
buried at St Marys.
7 Mary Pickering second daughter married Laurence Corban of Maryville, Co Cork at St Marys
Church Dublin on 31 May 1825.
8 Christopher Pickering born circa 1808 died June 1810 and was buried at St Marys.
9 Emma Pickering youngest daughter married Edward Phair, a papermaker of Millview, Co Cork
at St James’ Dublin on 12 Apr 1832.
10 Henry Pickering sixth son born circa 1815 admitted Kings Inns, affd. Thomas Pickering.
