Thomas Parlby born circa 1727. He married Lydia Martyn on 7 Aug 1750 at St Mary
Magdalene Church, Gillingham, Kent and they had at least eight children. His sister Mary
Parlby married James Templer. He was a master mason of His Majesty’s Docks’, Plymouth
and of Stone Hall, Stonehouse, in Plymouth. He was in partnership with his brother in law;
James Templer and together they built Naval dockyards including Portsmouth Docks and
the Great Parlby Dock renowned as the largest dock constructed at the time. They also built
the Royal Marine Barracks and the Royal Naval Hospital, at Stone House, Plymouth. Thomas
died 6 Jul 1802 and his obituary states that his son would be continuing the business. Stone
Hall was put up for sale in 1808.

3 Thomas Parlby baptised 3 Dec 1756 Stoke Damerel. He married Judith Delacombe
on 8 Nov 1783 at Stonehouse. Thomas died in Plymouth in 1798 and Judith died
8 Sep 1845 at Stonehouse aged 86.
4 Mary Parlby baptised 8 Nov 1760 Stoke Damerel.
5 James Templer Parlby born circa 1762 in Plymouth. He was an engineer in the
Honourable East India Company. He married Louisa Munt in July 1795 at Bengal, India.
Louisa was the daughter of John and Sarah Munt of London. Louisa was a collector of
Indian watercolours which are held by the British Library. She died 24 Aug 1808 at
Stone House, Plymouth aged 36. Colonel James Templer Parlby died on 1 Dec 1826 in
India and left 6K in personal estate.
1 Louisa Marianne Parlby born 1797 at Berhamore Bengal travelled to India with
her brother William in 1816 to see their father. On the sea journey on an East
Indiaman ship, she met Captain Thomas Marquis and they married on
27 Dec 1816 at Berhampore. Together they travelled backwards and forwards to
India. In 1826 Thomas travelled alone to India and Louisa stayed in Tunbridge
Wells with their four children as she was at an advanced stage of pregnancy.
Louisa took harp lessons from Mr Brooks in 1826 after the birth of her fifth child.
Thomas brought an action of criminal conversation against Mr Brooks in 1830
and was awarded £200 in damages.
1 Eldest daughter Marquis born circa 1817 was taught the pianoforte and
harp by Mr Brooks.

5 William Hampton Parlby born 19 May 1801 at Berhampore, Bengal. He was
commissioned cornet in the 4th (Queen's Own) Light Dragoons in 1816, lieutenant
1824, captain in 1826 and Major in 1844. He commanded the Cavalry Brigade of
the Dublin Division in Ireland, based at Curragh Camp from 1857 to 1861. He lived
at Weston, Dundrum and Montpelier Hill before moving to Island Bridge House in
1860. He was promoted to major general in 1860, lieutenant general in 1869 and
general in 1876. He was awarded the Crimea Medal with Clasp for Sebastopol,
the Sardinian and Turkish Crimea Medals and 4th Class Order of the Medjidie. In
1871 he was a border at Hubberston Rectory with the Rev John B Rowlands.
William died a bachelor at Hubberston Rectory, near Milford Haven,
Pembrokeshire on 26 Oct 1881.
6 Lydia Parlby baptised 28 Dec 1764 at Stoke Damerel died unmarried at
Stonehouse in 1827.
7 Priscilla Parlby baptised 26 Feb 1767 at Stoke Damerel. She married Captain
Charles Ekins, Royal Navy on 27 Feb 1810 at East Stonehouse. Lady Pricilla died
on 21 Jun 1843 at Rookland near Torquay. Admiral Sir Charles died 2 Jul 1855 at
Cadogan Place, London aged 86. They had no issue.
8 John Alexander Parlby baptised 26 Jun 1769 at Stoke Damerel. He was a JP and
married Letitia Hall on 19 Aug 1792. Letitia was the daughter and co-heir of
Humphrey Hall of Manadon, Weston Peverel. Letitia died in 1848 aged 75 and
John died at Manadon in 1849, probate to his son John.
1 John Hall Parlby born circa 1805 took Holy orders. He served as a Justice
of the Peace and lived at Manadon Manor. He married Emily Janette
Holder on 3 Mar 1835 at Stanton Lacey Church. Emily was the third
daughter of John Hooper Holder of Stanton Laey House, Ludlow,
Shropshire. They had four children and Emily died in 1842.
1 Trefusis Hall Parlby died 2 Jan 1837 at Manadon aged six months.
2 Son Parlby born and died on 10 Aug 1838.
3 Son Parlby born 23 Oct 1842 at Manadon.
He secondly married Emma Admonition Radcliffe on 6 May 1845 at
Tamerton Foliott. Emma was the third daughter of the Rev Walter Radcliffe
of Warleigh. The couple had ten children.
