Arthur Gamble Lewis of Rossmore Park, Monaghan married Henrietta Westenra née Scott
only daughter of Henry Owen Scott of Scotstown, Monaghan.
1 Henry Owen-Lewis born 26.09.1842 at Merrion Square married Frances Sophia
Elsegood on 08.08.1866 at Monkstown Parish Church. Frances was the daughter
of Francis Charles Elsegood of Baker Street, London. Witnesses John Lloyd Elsegood
and Edward Lewis. Henry and Frances lived at Trimleston House after they were
married. By 1871 the family were living at Seymour Street, Marylebone. Henry was
a Catholic land owner, an Irish Home Rule politician and MP for Carlow from 1874 to
1880. In 1881 they were at Lancaster Gate, Paddington. Frances died on 13.04.1900
aged 58 years at 52 Cranley Gardens.
1 Henry Owen-Lewis born 12.09.1867 at Trimleston House. Infant son died
17.09.1867 at same place.
2 Captain Arthur Francis Owen-Lewis born 06.08.1868 at Trimleston House, Old
Merrion. Arthur married Kathleen Jeanette Humphreys Henry daughter of
William Henry on 08.01.1896 at the Parish Church of St Martin in the Fields,
London. Arthur of the Yorkshire Regiment sailed to Malta with the 6th Battalion
Militia Lancashire Fusiliers in 1900. Arthur was Governor of Mountjoy Prison
between 1901 and 1911. Lieutenant-Colonel Arthur Francis Owen Lewis was
awarded a DSO for services with the British Expeditionary Force in France.
Arthur of 4 Barkston Gardens, Kensington died on 22.12.1926. Probate to his
wife Kathleen.
3 Lieutenant Francis Owen-Lewis born circa 1869 London, Middlesex married
Joanna Somerset Stuart in January 1888 in Kensington. Francis of 52 Cranley
Gardens, South Kensington and the 14th Bombay Infantry was killed on
24.11.1899 at Gras Pas Cape Colony, South Africa.
4 Cyril Alexander Owen-Lewis 1871 Middlesex. Cyril was secretary of the South
African League at Cape Town. Cyril of 53 Cranley Gardens, South Kensington
died on 10.11.1905. Probate to brother Arthur and sister Frances.
5 Frances Isabella Mary Owen-Lewis born circa 1873. Frances married widower
Sir Cornelius Alfred Moloney on 02.03.1897 at Kensington. Cornelius was
Governor in Chief of the Windward Islands in 1897 and of Trinidad and Tobago
from 1900 to 1904. Lady Maloney was in the West Indies when her mother died.
After the death of her husband in 1913. Frances returned to Ireland and was well
known for her charitable work. She entered a convent in 1922 and sailed for
China four years later as part of a group of sisters assigned to Hanyang. She was
aboard the Western Prince which was torpedoed and sunk off the Irish coast in
1940 but was rescued as were most of the passengers and crew. Mother Mary
Patrick died 15 Aug 1956 at St Columban's Convent, Cahiracon, Ennis
6 Frederica Sophia Elizabeth Mary Owen-Lewis younger daughter born circa 1877.
Frederica married John Joseph Chevers eldest son of Michael Joseph Chevers of
Killyan, Galway on 23.01.1894 in Kensington. They lived at Killyan, Galway.
Henry married secondly Baroness Louise Von Robendorff on 21.02.1903 at the Servite Church,
Fulham Road, London. Henry died 05.08.1913 aged 72 years at 52 Cranley Garden, South
Kensington.
