Oliver Fray Ormrod born 1880 at Cockermouth, Cumberland son of Dr Fray Ormrod and
Agnes Brayton of Workington, Cumberland. He married Edith Muriel Pim at Monkstown
Church on 4 Aug 1909 at Monkstown Church. Edith was the only daughter of Greenwood
Pim and Fanny Hodges of Easton Lodge, Monkstown. Edith was a quartermaster of VAD
No 12 during WW1. Oliver was a solicitor and clerk to the Whitehaven magistrates and
they lived at Croft Hill, Whitehaven. Edith was president of the Whitehaven Home for Waifs
and Strays and died 8 Jan 1952 at Whitehaven.
1 Roger Fray Greenwood Ormrod born 20 Oct 1911 at Whitehaven was educated at
Shrewsbury School and the Queen's College, Oxford. He studied medicine but later
trained as a barrister. He married Doris Anne (Anne) Lush on 9 Apr 1938 at the Church
of St Mary the Virgin, Oxford. He served in the Royal Army Medical Corps during the
Second World War. He returned to legal practice after the war and specialised in
divorce cases and became Queen's Counsel in 1958. In 1961 he was appointed a judge
of the Probate, Divorce and Admiralty Division, and in 1974 a Lord Justice of Appeal. He
was a barrister and was a British Lord Justice of Appeal. He was knighted in 1961. He
was chairman of the Notting Hill Housing Trust. He died 6 Jan 1992 at Kensington. He
left 503k in personal estate. Anne died 19 Oct 1997
2 Oliver Pim Ormrod born 16 Jun 1916 at Whitehaven, Cumberland. He was educated at
Shrewsbury School. He married Freda Kathleen Gordon in 1940 in Birmingham. He
served as an officer with the Royal Artillery during WW2. He died 22 Oct 1942 from
diphtheria. He is remembered at the Alexandria (Hadra) War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt.
Probate to Freda Kathleen Ormrod. It is thought that Freda remarried in 1944 (James E
Ratliff).

Oliver secondly married Grace St George Jackson on 16 Aug 1952 at St Brigid’s. Grace born
in 1899 was living at 5 Brewery Road and was the daughter of Thomas Jackson and Grace
Mary Orpen. She was the niece of the late artist Sir William Orpen. Oliver lived at Croft Hill,
Whitehaven. He sold Croft Hill in 1954. Grace served with the territorial army during WW2.
They lived at Lota, off Brighton Road, Foxrock. Grace died 24 Feb 1973 at the Adelaide
Hospital, late of Lota She is buried at St Brigid’s.
