Patrick Murray born circa 1833 in Co Cork son of Patrick Murray, a farmer. He was living at
Ballincollig and married Ellen Ahern of Dromasmole on 23 Feb 1867 at Cloghroe Chapel, Co
Cork. Ellen was the eldest daughter of John Ahern. Patrick was a farmer and put Raheen,
Carrigrohane up for sale in 1894. In 1901 he was a retired farmer and by 1911 he was a
grocer/publican. Patrick Murray a wine merchant formerly of Carrigrohane, Co Cork died
4 Apr 1912 aged 79 at Inchicore House. Frank Murray the informant.
1 Patrick Murray 2 Mar 1868 at Carrigrohane. He was a grocer of 17 Chatham Street
and married Catherine Grant on 10 Jun 1895 at St Kevin’s Church, Harrington Street.
Catherine was the daughter of William Grant, a coachman and Catherine Laughlin.
2 John Murray second son born 1 Nov 1869 at Raheen. John was a champion at 120y
hurdles (1904), discus (1909), and the hammer (1909). He was living at Inchicore House
and was called to the bar in 1905. John was a solicitor in 1901 and a barrister and
alderman of New Kilmainham in 1911 living with his parents. He was resident at
Inchicore House and married Evelyn Amy Mansford on the 29 Nov 1911 at the Church
of the Assumption, Booterstown. Evelyn was baptised in Booterstown while her
parents were living at Prague in 1888 and educated at Mount Anville. She was living
at Glena, Booterstown with her aunt Evelyn Maud Brady and was the daughter of the
late John Mansford and Ann Norton. They had four boys, their youngest son Neil was
a plantsman and forester and moved from Roebuck to Castle Howard in Avoca and
lived at Rockfield Dundrum in later life. John died 14 Aug 1933 at Roebuck Park and
his funeral mass was held at St Mary’s Donnybrook and he is buried at Glasnevin. Evelyn
continued to run the farm at Roebuck and died 20 Jun 1958 at Roebuck Park. Her
funeral mass was held at Holy Cross Church, Dundrum.
1 Desmond Murray born 20 May 1914 at 88 Lower Baggot Street parent’s resident
at Inchicore House, Inchicore. He qualified as a doctor and was house surgeon
at Jervis Street Hospital in 1937 and surgical registrar in 1939.
2 Sean Joseph Murray second son born 7 Dec 1915 at 40 Upper Fitzwilliam Street,
parent’s resident at Bungalow, Rutland Avenue, Crumlin. He was a farmer living
at Roebuck Park and married Gwendoline Mary Fitzgerald Lloyd on 9 Jan 1946 at
St Andrew’s, Westland Row. Gwendoline was the daughter of the late Richard
Coote Fitzgerald Lloyd.
3 Anthony Mary Murray born 13 May 1924 at 40 Fitzwilliam Square parent’s resident
at Roebuck Park. He died on 5 Jul 1924 and is buried at Glasnevin.
4 Catherine Mary (Kathleen) Murray born 16 May 1871 professed an Ursuline nun in 1901 at
the Augustinian Church Hythe in Kent. Her brother John attended.
5 Mary Josephine Murray born 14 Mar 1873 at Gurrane, Ballygarvan.
6 Jeremiah Joseph Murray born 8 Sep 1874 at Gurrane, Ballygarvan.
7 Michael Dominic born 4 Aug 1876 at Gurrane, Ballygarvan attended his brother John’s
funeral in 1933.
8 Denis Bernard Murray born 3 Mar 1878 was an athlete, who competed at the 1908
Summer Olympics in London. He married Bridget Frances O’Connor on 19 Sep 1911 at the
Pro Cathedral. Bridget from Newcastle was the daughter of James O’Connor, a farmer.
Bridget died at a private nursing home on Eccles Street on 10 Jan 1932 aged 44. Denis was
a widower and a farmer and died 19 Sep 1944 at Newcastle House, Hazelhatch. His
daughter Mary Murray the informant.

9 William Andrew (Willie) Murray born 18 Jul 1881 at Raheen was an athlete who competed at
the 1908 Summer Olympics. He was a publican of Wellington Quay and died a bachelor on
17 Oct 1942 at 4 Upper Pembroke Street. His funeral mass was held at SS Michael and John,
and he is buried at Glasnevin. The public house that he owned for 23 years was put up for
sale after his death.
