David Albert Mitchell born 19 Aug 1877 at Great Charles Street, Dublin son of Alexander
Mitchell, a comb manufacture of Mecklenburg Street and Harriett Vigors from Carlow was
baptised at the Pro Cathedral. Albert David Mitchel married Netta Mary Fitzgerald in 1916
at St George, Hanover Square. Netta was the daughter of Michael Joseph Fitzgerald and
Caroline Amy Streatfield of Watford. Her father was the chairman and managing director
of George Bowles, Nicholls & Company. Albert was the managing director of Messrs A
Mitchell & Co, rosary bead manufacturers at Waterford Street Comb Works who were a
big employer in North Dublin. The combs and beads were made of animal horn. By 1922
they were trading as A Mitchel and Co. In 1929 Netta hosted an ‘At Home’ at Montpelier
Manor with Hilton Edwards and Michael Macliammoir who addressed a large number of
guests. Albert died 5 Apr 1953 late of Montpelier Manor, his son Alexander the informant.
He was buried at Glasnevin. Netta died 13 Apr 1964 at Pembroke Nursing Home late of
Leahy House, Sandymount.
1 Sheila (Rosemary) Mitchell born 23 Mar 1917 at Merrion Lodge, Dublin was engaged
to John P Elton in 1939. They married in 1940 at Bury St Edmunds. John was the only
son of J F Elton of Amberley.
2 Geraldine Maeve Mitchell born 22 Sep 1918 at 10 Strand Road. She was the Dawn
Beauty Queen in 1938. She was engaged to Thomas C Lawlor in 1941. Thomas was
the son of Lawlor of Nas Na Riogh Hotel Naas. She married Cedric Joseph Cruess
Joseph Callaghan on 11 Feb 1942. Cedric was a civil engineer of Pembroke Street and
the son of the late Joseph Patick Callaghan, a merchant of Ferndene, Blackrock.
3 Charles Mitchel born 8 Nov 1919 at Montpelier Manor married Elizabeth (Betty) Stubbs
and they had two children. Charles was a well known newsreader with RTE.
4 Alexander (Alec) Mitchel younger son living at Montpelier Manor in 1953. He married
Anne Newling, the granddaughter of Chester Beatty.
