Henry born circa 1816 was with the Indian army and was granted 12 months leave in October
1845.
Henry McEntagart, a widower and son of George McEntagart married Rebecca Brown at
Ballinaclash Church, Co Wicklow on 15 Oct 1846. Rebecca of Ballinaclash was the daughter of
John Browne. Henry was a staff Sergeant with the commissarial Department in India. Henry
died 12 Mar 1851 at Meerut, he left everything to his wife Rebecca in his will. Rebecca and her
two surviving children moved back to Ireland after his death and lived at Lower Fitzwilliam
Street. Rebecca was on the committee and a regular contributor to the ‘Home for Governesses
and other unmarried Ladies’ based at Harcourt Terrace. Rebecca died 4 Jun 1892 at the
Stewards Institution, Chapelizod, Palmerstown and was buried at Mount Jerome.
1 John George McEntagart born 18 Jul 1847 at Kidderpore, Bengal. He was a bookkeeper
and married Esther Grace Jones on 13 Dec 1878 at Llandudno Parish Church. Esther
was the daughter of Thomas Jones, a lodging house keeper and his wife Elisa. John was
the owner of the schooner Mersey and in 1892 three men lost their lives whilst trying to
loosen her fastenings to save her from being dashed on rocks in Greystones. Esther
died 8 Nov 1899 at Orwell House, Rathgar aged 45 and was buried at Mount Jerome.
Esther’s mother Elisa was living with the family in Rathgar in 1901.
1 Eliza (Elsie Marian) McEntagart eldest daughter born 3 Feb 1880 at Marine Terrace,
Kingstown staying with her grandmother Elisa at Llandudno in 1881. She married
Francis Edwin Draper on 24 Mar 1906 at Rathfarnham Church. Francis was a civil
engineer and the son of Carter Draper, a civil engineer. They moved to Cork and
later to Westport.

2 Esther Mabel McEntagart born 13 Jun 1882 at Dalkey. She married Thomas
Alexander Rudd on 8 Jun 1907 at Rathfarnham Parish Church. Thomas was the son
of William Rudd, a farmer. In 1911 they were living at Ballycarney, Wexford with
their three children.
3 Henry Percy (Percy) McEntagart born 18 Apt 1886 at The Beach, Greystones was a
commission agent living with his parents in 1911. He was living at 21 Leeson Park
and married Sarah Lander on 7 Apr 1915 at Howth Parish Church. Sarah (Sally) was
living at Sutton and the daughter of Esmond Stanley Lander. Percy was sales
manager of The Dublin Motor Company. In 1921 Percy and his brother John sent up
a Citron dealership and traded as McEntagart Bros at 10 Leinster Street and later at
Percy Place. They assembled Standard cars in Dublin from 1930.
Henry and Sally lived at Roebuck Grove from 1920 to 1935. Percy was a director of
Lafayette Ltd, Dublin in 1940. Henry died at Upton, Greystones on 28 Mar 1944.
Sally died on 12 Nov 1951 in Carlow late of Upton Greystones. She is buried at
Delgany and left 11k in personal estate.
1 Esmonde Patricia (Pat) McEntagart elder daughter born 5 Mar 1919 at 40
Upper Fitzwilliam Street. She married George Boyle Hanna on 8 Nov 1944 at
St Patrick’s Church, Greystones, Co Wicklow. George was a QC and MP for
Duncairn. He was the son of the late George B Hanna, a County Court Judge of
Knocklofty Park, Belfast.
2 Esther Mary Valerie (Valerie) McEntagart born 10 Oct 1920 at Roebuck Grove
married Brendan Doyle on 29 Dec 1943. Brendan was a medical doctor living
at Hanover House, Carlow and the son of Laurence Doyle, MD.
4 Gladys Gwendoline McEntagart born 29 Dec 1888 at The Beach, Greystones living in
Rathgar with her father in 1901. She married Robert James Abbot Tamplin on
26 Apr 1911 at Rathfarnham Parish Church. Robert from Cork was a civil servant living
at the Ormeau Road, Belfast and the son of Robert Tamplin. He enlisted in 1916 and
attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and was awarded the DSO. They had two
daughters and were living at Mount Michael, Templeogue in 1923.
5 Edith Rebecca (Rebecca Edith) McEntagart youngest daughter born 25 Jan 1890 at The
Beach, Greystones living in Rathgar with her father in 1901. She married Captain John
H Graham Hunter in 1916 in Shropshire. John was with the RAMC and the elder son of
the late James Hunter MD of Winchester.
6 John George (Jack) McEntagart born 27 Apr 1898 was educated at Dublin High School
and Wesley College. He qualified as an engineer with a Belfast firm and went to Detroit
Michigan in 1917 where he worked as a motor repairman at the Dodge factory. He was
an agent for Citron trading as McEntagart Bros by 1921 with his brother Henry. He was
a mechanical engineer and married Muriel Patricia Dagg on 20 Feb 1924 at St George’s,
Dublin. Muriel was the daughter of Alexander Ralph Dagg. John was a director of the
Bohemian cinema in Dublin and the Savoy cinemas in Galway and Waterford. He was
also one of the founders of the Harold’s Cross Greyhound Racing Track. John died at a
Dublin nursing home late of Dunfirth, Butterfield Avenue, Rathfarnham on 23 Jul 1945.
His death was caused from injuries received in an incident in the Classic Ballroom, in
Lemon Street which he was the proprietor of. Five men were charged with causing his
death and three were convicted. He was survived by his wife and three children. Muriel
died 13 Mar 1954 at Dunfirth, Rathfarnham. Both are buried at Mount Jerome.
McEntagart Bros was wholly acquired by The Standard Motor Company in 1955.
John a merchant of Butterfield House, Rathfarnham secondly married Sarah Montgomery
Gilmore on 19 Sep 1904 at Ormond Quay Presbyterian Church, Dublin. Sarah was the third
daughter of Joseph Gilmore of Belfast. John was a restaurant keeper, commission agent and
farmer. He was a proprietor of the Grand Restaurant in Sackville Street and in 1895 he
opened the Empire Restaurant at 29 Nassau Street. Sarah died at Rosebank, Rathfarnham on
15 Dec 1915 aged 45. JG died late of Rosebank, Rathfarnham on 12 Mar 1919 and was buried
with his wife.
2 Caroline Mary McEntagart born 27 Jun 1848 at Meerut died 24 Oct 1848 in Meerut,
Bengal aged four months.
2 Elizabeth (Lillie) McEntagart born 28 Jan 1850 Wuzeerabad, Bengal died 6 Jul 1878
from small pox at 6 Lower Fitzwilliam Street. Her brother John the informant.
