Maxwell Hutton a merchant of 101 James’ Street married Nessy Rossavo in Dublin in 1784.
Maxwell was admitted a freeman of Dublin in 1790. He was buried at St James’ in 1797. His
brother William Hutton of W Hutton & Co was a brewer of Mount Brown from 1801 to 1810.
In 1804 William was running '2 stills of 1,070 and 515 gall capacity' but there was a fire which
destroyed the brewery in 1808 and he put the business up for sale with Nessy’s help in 1810).
Nessy ran the business in James’ Street after her husband’s death and her son John joined her
in time and they traded as N & J Hutton. In 1821 Nessy retired and the partnership was
dissolved. A new partnership was set up by her sons John & Charles and they continued to
trade from James' Street. Nessy thanked the public for their support of 36 years and asked
them to continue to support her sons. She lived at 6 Granby Row, Dublin from 1826 to 1833
and died on 19 Jun 1842 'at an advanced age'.
1 John Hutton born circa 1787. He was a merchant of James’s Street and married
Rebecca Duncan and they had 21 children. Rebecca was the daughter of John Duncan,
merchant of Granby Row. He traded with his brother Charles from 1821. He was
bankrupt in 1836 and the premises at James Street and the stock were auctioned. By
1838 he was trading with Hugh Purdy and was insolvent. They were living at Richmond
Hill, Monkstown by 1839. Rebecca died 1 Mar 1852 at Richmond Hill, Monkstown aged
55. John was insolvent in 1854 and placed in Kilmainham Gaol. John died at Richmond
Hill in January 1865. Both are buried at Carrickbrennan graveyard.
1 Narissa Rosavo Hutton eldest daughter married Michael Quarry an MD of Cork
on 23 May 1834 at St James’ Church. Narissa died a widow on 6 Sep 1850 at No
1 James’s Place, Guernsey.
2 Mary Hutton second daughter married Francis Hodder Malet at Castletownroche,
Co Cork on 2 Jul 1839.
3 Maria Hutton third daughter married the Rev J A Malet of Trinity College at
Monkstown Church in December 1839.
4 Helen Hutton fourth daughter born circa 1832 married James Alexander Eames
on 24 Oct 1856 at Monkstown Church.
5 Katherine Moffitt Hutton fifth daughter married John Maxwell Perry at Monkstown
Church on 25 Jun 1856. John was the second son of William Perry of Grovehill,
Downpatrick.
6 Henrietta Margaret Hutton as third surviving daughter married Charles James
Taylor of Edendale, Co Dublin at Edgbaston, Birmingham on 20 Oct 1863.
7 Lucy Hutton youngest daughter married Herbert Hodgetts Taylor on 31 Jul 1866
at the parish church, Edgbaston, Warwickshire. Herbert was the second son of
Thomas Edward Taylor off Dodworth Hall.
8 John Hutton AB of Blackrock eldest surviving son married Maria Emily Falkiner of
Tipperary and Oberstown Hill, Co Kildare on 29 Sep 1868 at the Cathedral, Bangor.
21 Son (21st child) Hutton born 1 Feb 1839.
2 William Hutton born circa 1791 was a captain in the 54th Regiment and died in Jamaica
aged 18 in 1809.
3 Edward Hutton (his mother was unsure if he was alive in 1833).
4 Charles Hutton born circa 1795 went into business with his brother John at James’s Street
in 1821. He married Letitia Greene on 25 Jun 1822 at Kilcullen. Letitia was the fourth
daughter of Rev Joseph Greene of Carrick on Suir. They lived at Rosavo Lodge, Golden
Bridge. Charles died 17 Jan 1861 at Castle Dawson Avenue, Blackrock.
1 Narissa Hutton only daughter married James Heron on 25 Apr 1848 at St James’
Church. James was the son of J Heron of Maryfield Belfast.
2 Letitia Hutton mentioned in her grandmother’s will dated 1833.
5 Henry Hutton born circa 1792 married Letitia Hutton in 1823.
6 Maria Hutton born circa 1795 married Evasio Antioco Anton Radice, LLD on 7 Oct 1833 at
Strand Street Presbyterian Church. Evasio was a Professor of Modern languages at the
University of Dublin. He was admitted a Freeman of Dublin in 1841. In 1845 they were
living at 86 Talbot Street. Evaiso left Trinity college to join the Italian army for the war of
Independence in 1848. Colonel Radice died 29 Oct 1855 at Genoa from cholera. Maria
died at Naples on 6 Feb 1871.
