Marchbank of Coles Alley
Robert Marchbank born circa 1743. He was a printer and married Mary. Mary died in May 1773
aged 25 at Cole Alley and was buried at St Werburgh.

2 Mary Ann Marchbank born at Skinners Row on 13 Jan 1771 at St Werburgh died and was
buried at St Werburgh on 28 Dec 1771.
Robert was an eminent printer and secondly married Susanna Elizabeth Davis on 15 Jan 1774 at
St Brides. Susanna Elizabeth was the daughter of John Davis of Murphystown, Co Dublin. He was
a publisher, printer and bookseller of Coles Alley, Castle Street. By 1781 he was at 2 Cork Hill
and was also a licensed lottery agent. He was later at No 11 New buildings Dame Street and still
published all books by Samuel Clifford and Memoirs of the Different Rebellions in Ireland by Sir
Richard Cosgrave. Robert was a member of the Guild of St Luke for cutlers and printers. Susanna
died in January 1789 at Dame Street. A few months later he was thrown from his horse near
Bagotrath Castle and broke his arm. He was bankrupt in 1792. His house fronting the Green in
Sandymount along with his furniture was put up sale by the assignees in April 1793. His stock in
trade, printing presses and the contents of his house at 10 Temple Lane, Essex Street were
auctioned in May 1793. He continued to trade from Temple Lane and offered printing by
subscription including a new run of Dr Johnson’s Dictionary of the English Language and was also
selling patent medicines. Robert died in Chancery Lane in January 1803 and was buried at St
Werburgh.
3 Isabella Marchbank born at Coles Alley baptised at St Werburgh on 28 Dec 1774 married
Joseph Landers on 10 Apr 1803 at Catherine's. She died 21 Jan 1832.
4 Robert Marchbank only son born at Coles Alley baptised 22 Apr 1777 at St Werburgh. He
was educated at Portarlington and was admitted Kings Inns. He practiced as an attorney
and had offices at Anglesea Street, he also acted as a notary public and stockbroker. Like
his father he was a member of the Guild of St Luke. Robert died in on 22 Nov 1824 at
Anglesea Street and was buried at Kilgobbin. Mrs Marchbank died aged 68 at the home
of her home of law Mr Jones on 11 Aug 1852 at 6 Ontario Terrace, Vesay Place, Monkstown.

at Malahide. Probate to her husband.
2 Sarah Martha Marchbank third daughter born circa 1808 died a spinster at Malahide
on 16 Sep 1867. Probate to her brother in law Robert Tedcastle.
3 John Marchbanks born circa 1815 graduated Trinity College. He was a master at
Kingstown School in 1839. In 1842 he took Holy orders and was appointed curate of
Templeport. He lived at Newtown, Blackrock in 1845/6. He died at Seaford, Co
Wicklow from typhus on 21 Sep 1847.
4 Mary Ann Septina (Septina) Marchbank born circa 1823 married Robert Tedcastle on
11 Aug 1855 at Kingstown Presbyterian Church. Septina died 30 Jun 1880 at Marlay
and was buried at Whitechurch.
1 Robert Marchbank eldest son born circa 1858 died 30 Aug 1895 at Bristol.
5 Anna Maria Marchbank fourth daughter married Samuel Sheppard in December 1832.
