John Malet married Jane who died a widow aged 76 on 10 May 1855 at the residence of her
son Francis at Bellview, Passage West, Cork.
1 Francis Hodder Malet born circa 1798 married Mary Hutton in July 1839 at
Castletownroche, Co Cork. Mary was the second daughter of John Hutton of Richmond
Hill. They lived at South Mall and later at Passage West. Francis died at Glan Honddu
Brecon, the residence of his brother on 11 Feb 1864.

2 John Lewis Malet Eldest son died 13 Jul 1856 at Passage West.
3 Jane Malet, second daughter married Henry Frederick Curry of Liverpool at
Charlton Church, Blackheath on 3 Jan 1865.
4 James Hudson Malet born circa 1850 married Mary Gertrude Wilson at St Stephen’s
Church, Hull on 14 Mar 1882. Mary was the youngest daughter of Thomas Wilson of
Withernsea East Yorkshire. James was a Master Mercantile Mariner and they were
living with their six children in Sculcoates, Yorkshire in 1891.
5 Henry Malet born circa 1852 a medical doctor moved to Wolverhampton where he
married and had at least four children.
6 Mary Malet born 19 Apr 1853 died unmarried on 16 Apr 1934 and is buried at
Mount Jerome.
7 Helen Malet born circa 1858 married Henry Singer Gabbett on 30 Apr 1889 at St
Mark’s, Wolverhampton. Henry was an MD of Eastbourne.
2 James Hudson Malet born circa 1802 in Cork graduated Trinity and took Holy orders. He
was Deacon of Cloyne in 1825, chaplain of the HM Hercules in 1837 and later served as a
curate in the Holy Trinity Church. He married Mary Loretta Heyt of 31 Dec 1841. In 1861
James was vicar of Martletwy, Pembroke and they were living at Panty Deri, Llanfair Nant
Gwyn, Cardigan. James died 13 May 1881 at Dorset Square, London.
3 John Adam Malet born circa 1810 in Cork obtained a scholarship to Trinity in 1827, degree
in 1830, fellow in 1838 and Doctor of Divinity in 1856. He married Maria Hutton in 1839.
Maria was the daughter of John Hutton of Richmond Hill. He was bankrupt in 1867 and
noted as a picture dealer, saw mills proprietor living at Willow Bank, Monkstown. He was
also a senior fellow of Trinity College and acted as librarian and senior Dean. He got into
hot water in 1874 when the provost wanted to show the Book of Kells to some visitors only
to discover it was not to be found. It transpired that John had sent the book off to the
British Museum to be rebound without permission. He also filled the role of Catechist in
Trinity College. John died at Richmond Hill on 9 Apr 1879 and is buried at Deansgrange.
Maria died 16 Jun 1881 aged 63 at Sandymount and is buried with her husband.
1 John Christian Malet born circa 1845 in Co Dublin son of John Adam Malet, fellow of
Trinity College. He attended Kingstown School and obtained a scholarship to Trinity.
He was a student and fellow of TCD and married Matilda (Maude) Darling on
4 Sep 1872 at the Registrar’s Office in Rush, Co Dublin. Matilda was living at Malahide
and was the daughter of Arthur James Darling, an assistant county surveyor. John
was a member of the Royal Irish Academy and they lived at 1 Ulster Terrace from
1874 to 1881. He was a professor of Mathematics at Queen's College Cork and in 1881
published a theorem 'On a Class of Invariants.' In 1885 he was the last recipient of the
RIA Cunningham medal prior to it's reinstatement in 1989. He was appointed Assistant
Commissioner of Intermediate Education in 1887 and they put Shanakiel Villa in
Sunday’s Well up for sale. Maude died 30 Oct 1899 aged 48 at Carbery, Glenageary
and is buried at Deansgrange. John died at Carbery, Silchester Road on 9 Apr 1901
and is buried with his wife.
1 Maria Christina (Daisie) Malet born 14 Sep 1874 at Ulster Terrace, Stillorgan
baptised at Stillorgan Parish church living with her father in 1901. She married
Alfred Coote Mulloy at Southampton in 1902. Alfred was the son of the late
Rev W J Mulloy and an officer with the P & O Steamship Company. Christina
died at the Euston Hotel, London on 4 Dec 1902 late of Glenageary and is
buried at Deansgrange.
2 Arthur John Malet born 10 May 1876 at 1 Ulster Terrace, Stillorgan baptised at
Stillorgan Parish church. As only son Arthur died at Durban, South Africa on
26 Jul 1897.
3 Henrietta Maud Malet born 23 Aug 1877 at 1 Ulster Terrace, Stillorgan baptised
at Stillorgan Parish Church living with her father in 1901. She married Creighton
Edward Duggan in June 1907 at Zion Church, Rathfarnham. Creighton was a
surveyor and the son of Creighton Duggan. They were living in Vancouver,
British Columbia in 1908. They were living in Buckinghamshire in 1921. Henrietta
died 9 Oct 1947 in London.
2 Avice Malet born circa 1846. As second surviving daughter she died unmarried at
Dunmurry, Co Antrim on 8 Dec 1898 and is buried with her parents in Deansgrange.
3 Rose Helen Malet born 1849 died unmarried on 18 Sep 1892 at Dalkey and is buried
with her parents in Deansgrange.
4 Elias Wellington Malet fourth son born circa 1814 married Carlotto Jane MacGregor on
11 Sep 1841 at Rio de Janeiro. Carlotta was the daughter of the late Colonel MacGregor and
died in 1848. Elias was living at Pantydere, Pembrokeshire by 1858. He died at Bulwark
House, Brecon on 28 Jun 1871.
1 Alexander Francis Malet only son born 5 Jan 1843 in Rio de Janeiro died on 5 Sep 1858
at Blackheath.
2 Maria Jane Malet born circa 1845 in Brazil living with her uncle James Malet in 1861 and
with her widowed father in 1871.
3 Flora MacGregor Malet second daughter born circa in 1847 in Brazil. She was living with
her uncle James Malet in 1861 and living with her widowed father in 1871. She married
H de Cillart de la Villeneuve on 23 Dec 1873 at St Philippe de Rouleand, Paris and also at
the Church of the British Embassy.
