George Macartney married Mildred Brown

Rev George Macartney married Mildred Brown. Mildred was the daughter of John Brown and
sister of John Brown (1752-1800) of Oakpark, Sovereign (mayor) of Belfast. George was appointed
Vicar of Antrim and Templepatrick in 1773 by the Marquis of Donegall. Rev George was a
magistrate of Antrim for 53 years and revived to Yeomanry Corps to supress the rebellion. He
died at Boghead near Antrim on 2 Dec 1824.
1 Sarah Macartney married John Cheyne on 3 Dec 1804 at Leith and they had sixteen children.
John was a physician with the forces and later had his own practice. He moved to Dublin
and was appointed to the Meath Hospital and elected a professor with the Royal College of
Surgeons in Ireland. He published a number of books including (1808) and The pathology of
the membranes of the larynx and bronchia (1809). He was appointed physician-general to
the army in Ireland in 1820. He died 31 Jan 1836 at Sherington, Buckinghamshire.
2 Miss Macartney married Captain Graham of the Dumbarton fencibles at Antrim in February
1802.
3 Arthur Chichester Macartney. He was a captain in the royal artillery and married Catherine
Ellis (Kate) Woollett on 14 Oct 1806 at Sittingbourne. Kate was the daughter of Nicholas
Woollett of Sittingbourne. He took holy orders and was the vicar of Belfast by 1823 died in
May 1843. Kate died 12 Jun 1854 at Hollywood, Co Down aged 68.
1 Arthur James Nelson Macartney eldest son born 1807 at Gillingham married Elizabeth
Payton on 10 Jul 1837 at St Mary’s, Cheltenham. Elizabeth was the only surviving
daughter of the late Admiral John Bitson Payton of Wakehurst Place, Sussex.
2 William Merton Macartney youngest son born 3 May 1819. He was educated at
Trinity College Dublin and admitted Kings Inns. He married Henrietta Hitchcock on
12 Aug 1847 at Antrim Church, Belfast. William was a barrister of 50 Blessington
Street and Henrietta was the eldest daughter of John Hitchcock of Belfast. He died
from fever on 5 Dec 1863 in Dublin.
1 Arthur Chichester Macartney born 26 May 1848 at Belfast baptised at St
Peter’s Dublin.
3 Louisa Macartney only daughter married Rev Richard Oulton on 6 Aug 1844.
4 Joseph Macartney second son born circa 1780 graduated Trinity and admitted Kings Inns.
He married Maria Macartney in September 1803. Maria was the daughter of Sir John
Macartney, Bart. He was in partnership with his brother Clotworthy. He was insolvent in
1843 and died 25 Sep 1846. Maria died 3 Jun 1869 at Carlisle Terrace, Malahide aged 87.
1 George Augustus Chichester Macartney, eldest son educated at Dundalk and admitted
Kings Inns. He died 1 Feb 1893 at Kilnaharvey, Richhill.
2 William Isaac Macartney third son married Henrietta Dane on 3 Oct 1843. Henrietta
was the third daughter of the late Richard Dane of Killyhevlin, Co Fermanagh. William
was appointed superintendent of Police in Ceylon in 1847. William died at Hollywood
House, Co Down on 8 Jul 1868.

2 Charles Clotworthy Macartney born 17 Jun 1850 at Sea, off Mauritius baptised
at St Peter’s Dublin.
3 Daughter Macartney born at Frankfort Lodge, Blackrock on 15 Sep 1853.
3 Anna Macartney eldest daughter died 4 Jun 1855 at Stephen’s Green.
4 Maria Macartney second daughter married Robert Dobbs Coulson on 9 Jun 1842 at
Hollywood Church.
5 Georgina Macartney third daughter married Arthur Edward Kennedy on 18 May 1839
at St Faith’s Church.
6 Jane Stewart Macartney youngest daughter born circa 1819 died on 1 Jul 1904 aged
85 at Malahide.
5 Clotworthy Macartney third son born circa 1789. He was educated at Crumlin in Co Antrim
and admitted Kings Inns. He married Jane Mayne on 4 May 1819 at St Olave’s, Hart Street.
Jane was the daughter of the late James Mayne of Honduras. Clotworthy was a solicitor and
was in partnership with his brother Joseph and with Thomas Stewart. The partnership was
dissolved in 1855 and Clotworthy and his brother moved their offices to 39 Gloucester Street
Upper where they practiced for a number of years. They lived at Bloomville from 1837 to 1851.
He was clerk of the crown for Down and died on 7 Jan 1864 aged 75 and left 7k in personal
estate.
1 Janette Macartney eldest daughter born circa 1825 married Rev William De Burgh in
September 1851. William was rector of Ardboe. Janette died 5 Mar 1915 at 70a
upper Leeson Street.
1 Daughter de Burgh born at Bloomville ion 5 Oct 1852.
2 Clotworthy Macartney born circa 1827 educated at Belmont, Stillorgan, graduated
Trinity and admitted Kings Inns.
3 Charles Macartney second born circa 1832 educated Trinity and admitted Kings Inns.
He died 25 Sep 1854 at St Helens.
4 Frederick Arthur Macartney second surviving son died 12 Feb 1855 at the Palace
Hospital, Scutari from dysentery and fever.
5 Euphemia Macartney third daughter died 25 Apr 1839 at Upper Gloucester Street.
6 Kate Macartney born circa 1837. As last surviving daughter she died 11 May 1915 at
Rydal Mount, Reigate.
6 Eliza Macartney youngest daughter married John Barclay Scriven in Dublin on 6 Dec 1825.
John was a lieutenant in the Royal Navy and the son of J B Scriven of Harcourt Street.
