Thomas Popham Luscombe born circa 1780 grandson of Alexander Popham Luscombe of
Luscombe of Devonshire was working in Gurnsey as Assistant Commissary General. He was
attached to the army and served at the Peninsula and Italy. He married Mary Wood at
Osmington, Dorset on 23 Feb 1809. Thomas was then appointed Deputy Commissary
General to Hanover. Mary died at Totnes, Devon on 29 Jun 1816 and was buried at
Littlehempston.
1 Farmery Pridham Epworth Luscombe eldest son born circa 1810 in Gurnsey
graduated Trinity College Dublin and took Holy orders. He was ordained in 1840
and was curate of Harington Vicarage in Bedfordshire. He married Ellen Day on
27 Jan 1852 at Kirby Bedon Church. Ellen was the daughter of the Rev E Day vicar
of Kirby Bedon. He died on 28 Jan 1888 at Juniper House Exmouth. Ellen died at
Lowestoft on 10 Mar 1893 aged 76.
2 Mary Luscombe eldest daughter born circa 1811 married John Duffy junior of
Richview at St Mary’s Donnybrook on 10 May 1831.
Thomas was Deputy Commissary General to the forces and married Catherine Robinson
on 8 Sep 1821 at Walthamstow, Essex. Catherine was the eldest daughter of William Tooke
Robinson of Walthamstow, Essex. He was Commissary General by 1824 and they lived at
Gayfield, Donnybrook Road (now St Mary’s College in front of the Royal Hospital). He was
tasked by the Lord Lieutenant to report on the famine in the west of Ireland in 1824 and
arranged for large quantities of oatmeal to be made available to the poor. They were
frequent quests at the Mansion House, the Viceregal Lodge and Dublin Castle. Their
country residence was Killester House and some of the children were baptised, confirmed
and married in Clontarf parish in the 1830s & 40s. Thomas died 15 Mar 1855 at Killester
House and left 16k in personal estate. Probate to Randolph Robinson. His will was left
unadministered and it was 1882 before this was actioned in full. By 1871 Catherine was
living at Bournside, Cheltenham and died 12 Nov 1890 at Cheltenham aged 94. Both are
buried at Mount Jerome.
3 Isabella Eliza Luscombe baptised 1822 in the parish of St Peters. As eldest
daughter she married the Rev John Hayne, Rector of Stawley, Somersetshire at
Clontarf Church in June 1843. Her half brother Epworth officiated at the ceremony.
She was staying with her mother in Cheltenham in 1871.
4 Thomas Charles Popham Luscombe born circa 1823 graduated Trinity. He married
Annie Casement on 15 Sep 1853 at Clontarf Parish Church. Annie was the daughter
of the late Roger Casement, solicitor of Ballymena, Co Antrim. They lived at Poyer
Park in Ballinteer. Thomas died 24 Jun 1858 at 14 Trafalgar Terrace, Monkstown (the
residence of his mother) and was buried at Mount Jerome. Annie secondly
married the Rev D Carlisle Courtenay in 1866.
5 William Hill Luscombe third son born circa 1825 graduated Trinity College as a civil
engineer. He married Maria Barbara Bingham in 1844 and lived in Donnybrook initially.
He died 10 Dec 1856 at Terenure Terrace, Roundtown and was buried at Mount Jerome.
1 Thomas Popham Luscombe born 26 Feb 1845 at Gayfield, Donnybrook Road
worked for the East Indian Railway Company.
2 William Epworth Luscombe born 19 Jul 1848 at Adelaide Terrace, Donnybrook died
4 Apr 1852 and was buried at Mount Jerome.
6 Tooke Cumming Luscombe born 5 Jul 1828 at Gayfield baptised at Donnybrook Church.
He was living at Killester House, Clontarf, Co Dublin and married Mary Louisa Boylan on
5 Apr 1856 at St Peter’s Church. Mary was the eldest daughter of Felix Boylan of 45
Waterloo Road. He was a civil servant and worked as a clerk for the Reformatory
Schools Office at Dublin Castle. They were living at Milltown Castle in 1860, Dromana,
57 Leeson Park in 1884, Dundrum Castle from 1885 to 1889, Dundrum House in 1893
and at Frankfort, Dundrum in 1900. Tooke died 18 Nov 1905 at Frankfort, Dublin
formerly of Dundrum Castle and a window in Taney Church was erected in his memory.
He left 4k in personal estate, his wife was one of his executors. He was buried at Mount
Jerome. Mary died at Greystones age 92 on 20 Apr 1928 and was buried with her
husband.
1 Catherine Anne (Katie) Luscombe only daughter born 15 Jan 1857 at 1 Adelaide
Terrace, Dublin. She trained as a teacher and married Robert William Jameson
of Corgrig Lodge, Foynes, Co Limerick on 24 Sep 1879 at St Philips, Milltown.
Robert was the son of the Rev William Jameson of Roebuck Grove.
2 Tooke Johnson Luscombe born 22 Jul 1858 at Blackrock. He was educated at
Shrewsbury School, graduated Trinity College and took Holy orders. He was
ordained a deacon at Worcestershire Cathedral in 1883. He was curate of
Whixley in 1891. He married Selina Mabel Oakes on 21 Jul 1897 at Tomregan
Church, Co Cavan. Selina was the daughter of the late Surgeon Major, Frederick
Aston Oakes. They were living at Drumlion, Bellananagh, Cavan in 1901. He
was rector of Beeby, Leicester from 1910 to 1931. Selena died 4 Apr 1942 at
Humberstone Drive and Tooke died same place on 23 Jan 1945.
1 Marion Catherine Luscombe born 20 Jul 1898 at Dundrum House
baptised at Taney. She married Thomas Edward Allen on 22 Jun 1921
at all Saints, Beeby. Thomas was the elder son of Robert Allen of Errona,
Boyle, Roscommon.
2 Beryl Selina Victoria Luscombe (twin) born 14 May 1900 at Frankfort
baptised at Taney. She died unmarried on 11 Jan 1968 at Leicester.
3 Violet Mary Victoria Luscombe (twin) born 14 May 1900 at Frankfort
baptised at Taney. She trained as a nurse and was the matron of Accra
Hospital in Ghana (Gold Coast) from 1929. She was awarded an OBE in
1952. She died unmarried in Nottingham.
3 George Augustus Luscombe born 12 Sep 1863 at Milltown Castle. He was
with the 5th Battalion, Royal Dublin Fusiliers. Captain Luscombe married
Jessie Ward on 12 Oct 1893 at St John’s Cathedral, Denver. Jessie was the
youngest daughter of the Hon Jasper Ward of Denver, Colorado, USA. They
were living in Kilkenny in 1911 and they had no children. George was the
Governor of HM Prison, Kilkenny. He died on 7 Oct 1932 at Middlesex,
probate to his wife Jessie.
7 Kate Fanny Luscombe second daughter born November 1829 married John
Johnson Brown on 26 Jul 1853 at All Saints’, Knightsbridge. They lived at Blenheim
House, Cheltenham and had at least six children. They were staying with her mother
in 1871 at Cheltenham.
8 Adelaide Luscombe born circa 1832 married John Clement Pare on 7 Aug 1856 at
Clontarf. John was an engineer of Clontarf and the son of William Pare, engineer.
They moved to Croydon and had at least five children. John died 20 Nov 1910 in
Surrey, his wife Adelaide his executor. Adelaide died in April 1919.
9 Emily Luscombe youngest daughter born 14 May 1833 at Killester House, baptised
at Clontarf died 20 Jun 1853 and was buried at Mount Jerome.
10 Randolph Richards Luscombe youngest son born April 1837 at Gayfield, Donnybrook
joined the 4th Royal Irish Dragoons and attained the rank of captain. He was a bachelor
and living at the Barracks, Smithford Street, St Michaels Coventry in 1861. He was living
with his mother in Cheltenham in 1871. He married Frances Alexandra Wilson on
12 Jun 1872 at Mansergh, Kirby Lonsdale. Frances was the second to daughter of William
Wilson of William Wilson. They divorced in 1885.
He secondly married widow Elizabeth Anna McGregor on 20 Aug 1902 at the British
Consulate in Rotterdam. Elizabeth was the daughter of the late Rev Hamilton of Lynsted
in Kent. Elizabeth Anna died 14 Nov 1903 and is buried at Mount Jerome. She is
remembered with a memorial window at Taney Church, Dundrum. Randolph was living
4 Durward House Kensington Court Kensington in 1911 and died on 1 Feb 1918.
