John Fitzgerald Lowe was a civil servant of Drumcondra. He was the son of William Thomas Lowe, a
painter and his wife Louis Moore, a school mistress. He married Kate Florence Gilbert on 23 Aug 1895
at St Georges’ Parish Church. Kate was the fifth of seven daughters born to John Gilbert of 37 North
Strand and Askinch near Gorey, Co Wexford and his wife Catherine Hannah Buckley. John was an
assistant inspector of the GPO Postmen in 1901 living at Jones’ Road and was living at Whitworth
Road, Drumcondra in 1911. John worked with the Post office for 36 years; on retiring he was
presented with the Imperial Services Medal. He was vice president of the YMCA and was the recipient
of the Red Triangle. He died at Luanza, Home Farm Road on 21 Jun 1930 and was buried at
Drumcondra churchyard. Katie died 29 Oct 1955 at 47 Home Farm Road and was buried with her
husband.
1 John B Lowe born 1 Dec 1896 at 37 Jones’ Road took Holy orders and was curate of St Paul's
and then St Aidan’s Belfast in 1930 and later rector of Ballinderry, Co Antrim. He married
Barbara Allen on 18 Jul 1827 at St Paul's, Belfast. Barbara was the daughter of James Allen of
Belfast.
2 Kathleen Gladys L Lowe born circa 1897 died in 1901.
3 Ruby Alexandra Lowe born 11 Jun 1902 in Glasnevin was chair of the Eire Bible Society and
died in 1972.
4 Gilbert Albert Lowe second son born 26 Apr 1904 in North Dublin was educated at Mountjoy
Square and Trinity College. He was curate at St Kevin’s Dublin in 1930, senior curate-assistant
of Christ Church, Leeson Park in 1937 and treasurer’s vicar of St Patrick's Cathedral. He was
appointed to the incumbency of Stillorgan in 1939. He married Elizabeth Eleanor Honor
Northridge on 14 May 1940 at St Andrews Church, Dublin. Elizabeth was the daughter of Rev
Robert Northridge of Chesterfield who was Bishop of Kilmore. The Archbishop of Dublin
performed the service. Gilbert was living at 2 Avoca Terrace at the time of his marriage. The
reception was held at Chesterfield and they honeymooned in the South of Ireland. In 1943
Rev Lowe resigned and the vestry note that they were 'in sympathy with his patriotic motives
in wishing to serve in the Royal Army Chaplin’s Department and serve overseas on active
service in the present war'.
5 Reginald Kenneth Lowe born 11 Mar 1909 at 72 Whitworth Road. He took Holy orders, ordained
in 1932. He was curate assistant of North Strand, incumbent of Dunlavin in 1942 before
moving to Rathdrum in 1950 and Blessington in 1965.
6 Isma Irene Isabella Lowe born 18 Oct 1911 at 72 Whitworth Road was on the register of music
teachers in Ireland.
