John Barry (Barry John) Yelverton born 21 Feb 1790 son of William Yelverton, 2nd Viscount Avonmore,
and Mary Reade, eldest daughter of John Reade became 3rd Lord Viscount Avonmore in November
1814 on the death his father. He was of Belleisle, Co Tipperary and Hazel Rock, Co Mayo. He
married Jane Booth in 1812. Jane was the second daughter of John Thomas Booth of Whitehaven.
Jane died in 1821.
1 Hon Barry Charles Yelverton eldest son born 6 Jan 1814 at Shannon Grove, Galway served with
the 14th Light Dragoons. He was the heir apparent but died at Hazel Rock, Mayo on
11 Jan 1853. He was interred at the family burial grounds in Tipperary.
2 Hon Sydney Eloisa Yelverton born circa 1817. As eldest daughter she married Forster Goring in
July 1839 at Lorrha Church. Foster was the fourth son of Sir Charles Forster Goring of Highden,
Sussex. She died 13 Mar 1883 in Wellington, New Zealand.
3 Hon George Frederick William Yelverton born 7 Mar 1818. He as with the 64th Regiment and
retired in 1848. He married Louisa Prendergast on 12 Feb 1857 at Chelsea. Louisa was the
daughter of Guy Lenox Pendergast, MC Bombay. As eldest surviving son he was the heir
apparent but died on 26 Feb 1860 at Ennismore House, Kingstown, Co Dublin.
4 Hon Mary Augusta Yelverton born circa 1820. As second daughter she died 7 Oct at Interlaken,
Switzerland.
5 Hon Adelaide Matilda Yelverton born circa 1821. She was living at 32 Pembroke Place and
married widower Humphrey Lyons on 7 Jul 1860 at St Peter’s Church, Dublin. Humphrey was a
Colonel in the Bombay Army and the son of John Lyons. Adelaide died a widow on 13 Jun 1884.
Barry secondly married Cecelia O’Keeffe on 1 Aug 1822. Cecilia was the eldest daughter of the late
Charles O’Keefe, a registrar of the High Court of Chancery. They lived at Pembroke Place and were in
Richview from 1852 to 1855 and Trimleston House, Merrion in 1860. John died on 24 Oct 1870 at
Raglan Road and left 4k in personal estate. His death saved the state a pension of between four and
five thousand per annum. Cecelia died at 10 Tritonville Road on 5 Feb 1876 aged 71.
6 Hon Letitia Yelverton fourth daughter born circa 1823 died a spinster in Dresden on 19 Oct 1897.
7 Hon William Charles Yelverton, eldest surviving son born 1824 became the fourth Viscount on
the death of his father in 1870. He married Emily Marianne Forbes nee Ashworth on 26 Jun 1858
when he had already married Maria Theresa Longworth (who had professed a nun) in Rostrevor
on 15 Aug 1857. He managed to avoid a conviction of bigamy on a technicality. In 1864 on appeal,
the decision of Thelwall v Yelverton was reversed, and the House of Lords decided that William's
first marriage was illegal, and therefore his second marriage was valid. This resulted in a change
to the law on mixed religion marriages in Ireland. Theresa continued to use both the title and
surname and had a successful career as a lecturer and writer. She died in 1881 at
Pietermaritzburg. William died on 1 Apr 1883 at Biarritz and Emily died 28 Nov 1909 in Biarritz.
1 Hon Barry Nugent Yelverton born circa 1859 in Edinburgh became the 5th Viscount
Avonmore. He was a British Army instructor in musketry and died of enteric fever at
Kirbekan on 13 Feb 1885, while serving in the Sudan.
2 William Walter Aglionby Yelverton born in 1860 died in 1861.
3 Olive Ursula Yelverton born and died in 1861.
4 Hon Algernon William Yelverton, born 9 Nov 1866. He became the 6th Viscount
Avonmore in 1885. He married Mabel Sarah Evans, daughter of George Evans and Jane
Fitzgerald, on 17 Dec 1890 in St Anne's, Dungannon, Co Tyrone. He was a captain in the
Dublin City Militia in 1901 and resigned his commission in 1903. He died 3 Sep 1910 at
North Frederick Street late of Newtownmountkennedy and left 1k in personal estate.
The title became dormant on his death as no relatives claimed it. Mabel, Lady
Avonmore died in 1927 at Bournemouth.
1 Evelyn Marianne Mabel Yelverton born 1893 died in 1956.
8 Hon Louisa Elizabeth Yelverton born circa 1827. She married Rudolph Hermann Hultzsch of
Dresden on 2 Sep 1873 at St Mary’s Church, Cheltenham. She died circa 1915.
9 Hon Cecilia Priscilla Yelverton 5th daughter born circa 1829. She married George Harrington
Hawes on 13 April 1853 at Taney Church. Cecelia was resident at Richview and George was a
captain in the 9th Regiment and the son of Colonel George Hawes. Cecelia died in Malta on
18 Sept 1854. George died in March 1911 aged 86.
10 Hon Walter Aglionby Yelverton fourth son born circa 1832 died at Fitzwilliam Square on
18 Jan 1844 aged 12.
