John Lloyd son of John Lloyd married Sophia Read on 22.07.1865 at St Marylebone, London.
Sophia was the daughter of Richard Read and the widow of Francis Charles Elsegood, a
surgeon. Sophia was quite a bit older than him. On 29 Jul 1865 John Lloyd of 6 Oriental
Place, Brighton assumed the name Lloyd-Elsegood.
John and Sophia stayed at Trimleston in 1866/7 and John was witness to his step daughters
marriage; Henry Owen-Lewis and Frances Sophia Elsegood daughter of Francis Charles
Elsegood and Sophia Read Lloyd-Elsegood at Monkstown Parish Church in 1866. In 1871
John and Sophia were living at Oriental Place, Brighton. John was an amateur painter of
landscapes and views mainly of Geneva, the Rhine, the Pyrenees and Venice. He used the
pseudonym J L Vychan and exhibited from1873. A member of the Society of British Artists
(SBA) he exhibited 'Dublin Bay from Sandymount Strand’, and ‘Killiney and Bray Head from
Dalkey in 1873. In 1881 they were living at 42 Inverness Terrace, Paddington. Sophia died
on 05.02.1887 at Paddington.
John married secondly Sara Louisa Braham daughter of Henry Lewis Braham a lawyer on
29.04.1889 at Holy Trinity Church, Paddington. Sara died on 14.05.1900 at Bournemouth.
John of Heather Bank, Bournemouth married thirdly Fanny Harriet Speed daughter of
Charles John Bond of 80 Regents Park Road on 15.01.1902 at St Mark’s Parish Church,
Regents Park. Fanny died on 03.08.1911at Bournemouth. In later life he used his own
name as an artist and his paintings were very well received. In 1912 John exhibited four
paintings at the Bournemouth Art Society Exhibition. One was rather different and titled
The Duet' and featured a young girl playing a piano with a dog singing along. John died on
17.07.1912 at Bournemouth late of Heatherbank, Richmond Hill.
