Charles William Linton born 19 Aug 1864 in Thomastown to Maurice Linton, a labourer and
his wife Emmy Wall. He was a groom working at Rockfield, Blackrock and married Bridget
Bishop on 1 Sep 1891 at Monkstown Church. Bridget was living at Ash villa, Howth and was
the daughter of William Bishop, a saddler. They lived at Eagle Hill, Blackrock and Charles was
a coachman by 1911.
1 Emily Charlotte Linton 12 Jul 1892 at Newtown Castle Byrne. She was working as a
housemaid for the Mrs Annette Head of Old Connaught in 1911. She married William
James Spiers on 16 Jun 1914 at Acton Parish Church, near Newry. William was a labourer
living at Poyntzpass and the son of William Spiers a labourer.
2 Elizabeth Ellen Linton born 20 Jun 1893 at 10 Albert Place, Kingstown living with her
parents in 1911. She was bridesmaid at her sister’s wedding in 1914.
3 Charles Maurice Linton born 16 Feb 1896 at 7 Eagle Hill, Blackrock. He enlisted Reg no
204271 and served with Royal Dublin Fusiliers. He married Beatrice. He was Killed in
Action on 9 Sep 1916 in France. He is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial in France
and on the Christ Church Cross (now in the grounds of SS Philip & James Church,
Booterstown).
