James Larkin born circa 1857 at Boynefield, Co Meath son of Peter Larkin, a herd. He was
servant living at Creakenstown when he married Bridget McCreedy on 2 May 1888 at Curraha
Chapel, Dunshaughlin. Bridget originally from Moate was a servant living at Crookenna and
the daughter of Peter McCreedy, a labourer. James was working for the Carmelite nuns on
the Upper Kilmacud Road in 1901 and living on the grounds. James was working as a stud
groom for Richard Crooker in Carrickmines by 1911 and all of their five children had survived.
James as head stud groom was left 1K in the will of Richard Croker, but as the will was so
contentious it is not known whether he ever received the bequest. James died at 1
Glenamuck cottages on 4 Feb 1941 and is buried at Deansgrange. Bridget died 19 Jul 1951
at Glenamuck Cottages and is buried with her husband.
1 Peter Larkin born 4 Dec 1889 at Kilmacud, Stillorgan. He was living at Carrickmines
and working as a railway clerk when he married Jennie Lowbridge at Cabinteeley Church
on 5 Nov 1913. Jennie originally from Tullamore was a national school teacher resident
at Cornelscourt, Foxrock and was the daughter of the late John Lowbridge, a distiller and
Mary Anne Hannigan of Tullamore. They had five children, one who died 2 days after
birth. They lived at Grove Lodge from 1916 and Peter worked as a clerk for the Irish
Railway Clearing House. Mary Jane died 22 Sep 1961 at St Columcille’s Hospital late of
Grove Lodge and is buried at Deansgrange. Peter died 5 Feb 1969 at St Vincent’s
Hospital late of Grove Cottage and is buried at Deansgrange with his wife and two of
their children.
1 Barbara Mary Larkin born 2 Jan 1915 at 1 Victoria Terrace, NCR. She was a clerk
and died from TB at Stillorgan on 26 Oct 1933 at Stillorgan. She is buried at
Deansgrange.
2 James Larkin born 10 Nov 1916 in Stillorgan. He died from TB 15 Apr 1935 at
Meredith Lodge, Ballyogan Road, Carrickmines (part of the Croker estate) and is
buried at Deansgrange.
3 Annie Larkin born 26 Jul 1919 in Stillorgan.
4 John Larkin born 25 Feb 1922 in Stillorgan.
5 Unknown daughter Larkin born 27 Feb 1924 at Holles Street died at Holles Street
2 days later.
2 Mary Larkin born 27 Jan 1893 at Kilmacud was a dressmaker living with her parents in
1911. Mary died unmarried on 5 Nov 1972 at Fitzwilliam Nursing Home, Bray late of 1
Glenamuck and is buried with her parents.
3 Anna (Annie) Larkin 2 May 1895 at Kilmacud. She was a shorthand typist work for
Jameson Solicitors in 1926. She was living at Carrickmines when she married Peter
Dunne on 27 Apr 1935 at Cabinteely Church. Peter was a manufacturer living at Bank
Side in Milltown and was the son of Thomas Dunne, a labourer. He ran a spade and
shovel works at Harold's Cross and was bankrupt in 1936 giving an address of Meredith
House, Carrickmines.
4 Joseph Larkin born 4 Jul 1897 at Kilmacud. He was a motor driver living at Carrickmines
when he married Elizabeth Reilly on 24 Sep 1924. Elizabeth was a maid living at
Carrickmines and the daughter of James Reilly, a farmer. They were living at 11 Dublin
Road in 1926 and Joseph was working as a chauffeur for Holmes Drapers in South Great
Georges Street. By 1949 they were living at 55 Beaufield Park and Joseph was working
as a bus driver. They both died at Beaufield Park in the 1970s and are buried at
Deansgrange.
1 Carmel Larkin born 19 Jul 1925 at Holles Street. Carmel married Michael Joseph
Daniels on 22 Aug 1949 at Kilmacud Church. Michael was a cinema worker living on
the NCR and was the son of Richard Daniels, a prison worker.
2 Teresa Larkin died 7 Jun 1939 at 2 Dublin Road aged 2 from accidental scalding
and is buried at Deansgrange.
5 Patrick Larkin born 7 Oct 1899 at Kilmacud. He played football with the Foxrock
Geraldines and Stars of Erin. He was with 6th Battalion, F Company under the command
of Andrew McDonnell during the war of Independence. He was a stud groom working
for Bula Croker in 1926. He was fatally struck by a car when he was cycling on Brighton
Road, Foxrock. The car was driven by Dr Henry St George Smith of Palmerstown House.
He died unmarried on 19 Jul 1940 at the Meath Hospital late of Glenamuck. He was
buried at Deansgrange with an Old IRA guard of Honour. He was posthumously awarded
the Service (1917-1921) Medal.
