Mrs Lafarrel had been a governess to distinguished Irish families and took over the school at
Stephens Green from a Mrs Hurst. She ran a ladies boarding school from 1782 at 95 St
Stephen’s Green. It was a French and English school and she catered for 24 girls. Each girl had
to provide two sets of sheets and a silver spoon. She provided separate beds and or/separate
rooms and her students attained great results. Jane died in September 1797 after a lingering
illness and was buried at St Peter’s. Her daughter Miss Anne Lafarelle took over the running of
the school with her father supervising the domestic arrangements. The school was still in
operation in in 1801. Thomas died at Friarsland on 24 Dec 1815 and was buried at St Peter’s.
1 Anne Lafarelle eldest daughter married Richard Herbert Greydon in December 1817.
Richard was the grandson of the late Captain Greydon. They lived at Ballymorris Co
Wicklow and Richard, a widower having suffered a seizure which left his paralysed was
adjudged a lunatic in 1841. Richard died on 21 Jun 1856 at Springhill late of Ballymorris.
1 Eliza Jane Greydon only child born circa 1820 married William Maxwell of Middle
Gardiner Street on 20 Sep 1847 at Llandilo-faur, Carmarthenshire.
2 James Lafarelle born circa 1782 admitted Freeman in 1807. He worked at the Stamp Office
from 1809 to 1822. He was resident at Friarsland and married Eliza Greene in December
1817. Eliza was the third daughter of John Greene of Millbrook, Co Carlow. The initially
lived at Friarsland in Roebuck and were at Springhill, Carlow by 1827. James put Springhill
House and lands up for let in 1850. Eliza died circa 1859 and James died at Cooper’s Hill,
Co Meath on 31 Dec 1859.
1 Thomas Lafarelle baptised at Taney on 25 Mar 1819. He was a rate collector of
Carlow and sloped off to ‘the land of promise’ in 1849 with £200 odd of his collection
missing.
2 Mary Anna Lafarelle eldest daughter born 2 Nov 1820 at Friarsland baptised at
Taney. She died at Spring Hill on 12 Nov 1847.
3 James Lafarelle born circa 1825 married Sarah Marsella Fitzmaurice circa 1851. He
passed an examination to practice medicine in 1859 and was living at Coleshill,
Warwick. Sarah died in 1900 aged 81 and James died at Coleshill in 1907.
1 Mary Anne Lafarelle born circa 1854 in America eldest daughter died
4 Mar 1875 aged 21.
2 Harriette Lafarelle born circa 1856 living with parents in 1871
3 James Lafarelle born circa 1858 living with parents in 1871.
4 Eliza Marsella born and died 1858.
5 Thomas born and died 1858.
6 Amy Lafarelle born circa 1862 youngest daughter died 4 Jun 1866.
4 John James Lafarelle* born circa 1830 lived at the Grange, Stillorgan from 1860 to
1864 and won numerous prizes for his poultry. Deceased by 1886.
1 Maria Louisa Lafarelle born circa 1850 in Carlow married widower Thomas
Perrier Davies on 4 Feb 1869 in Dublin. Thomas died at Bournemouth on
6 Apr 1881.
1 Thomasina Perrier Davies born 29 Jan 1874 at Montpelier House, Dalkey
died unmarried at Montpelier House on 23 Jul 1916, her stepfather Henry
the informant.
Maria Louisa only surviving child of the late John James Lafarelle of Springfield
House secondly married Henry Richard Herbert Coutt Atwool a barrister of
Crosthwaite Park, Kingstown on 28 Apr 1886 at Monkstown Church. They were
living in Dalkey in 1911. Maria died 19 Nov 1923 at Montpelier Dalkey and was
buried at Deansgrange. Henry died 3 Jan 1936 and was buried at Mount Jerome.
5 Robert Lafarelle baptised 30 Mar 1827 at Killeshin lived at Eagle Hill Carlow and
married Harriett Messenger Kendrick on 3 Apr 1864 at Lea Church. Harriett was
the eldest daughter of Thomas Kendrick of Lea Marston. They were living in
Hastings in 1881 and had four of their children living with them. Harriette died
18 Sep 1890 aged 52 at Hastings. Robert a widower living at Hastings in 1891 and
visiting his brother in 1901.
1 Tomas Kendrick Lafarelle born 14 Fen 1866 at Eagle Hill, Shillelagh.
2 Daughter Lafarelle born 26 Apr 1867 at Richmond, Drumcondra.
3 Robert Lafarelle born 1868 in Dublin was a compositor for the Cornwall press in
1921.
4 George Henry afarelleborn circa 1871 in Middlesex.
5 Ernest Lafarelle born 1875 in Leatherhead.
6 George Henry Lafarelle baptised 1 Jan 1831 at Killeshin was a farmer. He married
Castiliana Susanna Haskin on 6 April 1861 at Aghold, Co Wicklow. Castiliana was
living at The Hall, Coolkenno and was the daughter of Abraham Haskins. His farm
in Co Kildare was for sale by the Sheriff in 1873. They emigrated and by 1881 they
were living at Halton, Ontario with their seven children.

7 Elizabeth Ann Lafarelle baptised 18 Jul 1832 at Killeshin married John Greene on
29 Jan 1861 at Shillelagh. John was resident at Eagle Hill and the son of Joseph
Greene.
8 Martha Matilda Lafarelle baptised 3 Sep 1835 at Killeshin. She was disabled and could
not read or write. She boarded out and died in Delgany on 19 Apr 1914.
3 Elizabeth Lafarelle of Stephen’s Green baptised at St Peters on 12 Dec 1784. She married Robert
Tyrrell on 26 Aug 1817.
4 Ellen Lafarelle married Thomas John Weekes on 4 Nov 1824 at St Peter’s.
