Joseph Keogh the son of Thomas Keogh and Maria Chapman was born in Dunbur, Co Wicklow
in 1862. He was manager of the Hibernian Bank in Swinford and married Annie Kathleen Doyne
on 29.01.1896, at the University Church, Stephens Green, Dublin. Annie was the daughter of
James Doyne, a shopkeeper and town commissioner of Mullingar. The family lived in Swinford
in 1901 and Joseph remained with the bank until 1902 when he became senior partner in Keogh
and Gill, Government Stockbrokers of 20 Anglesea Street, Dublin. By 1911 they had moved to
Shrewsbury Road and lived at Trentham on the Leopardstown Road from 1914 to 1925. They
moved to Bellosquardo circa 1926. The Bellosquardo estate was sold in 1940 for £400 to the
TD Patrick J Ruttledge. Joseph Keogh died 10.02.1944 and Annie died on 26.10.1946 in
Hampshire.
1 Wanda Mary Victoria Keogh born 1897. Wanda Keogh married Gildart Jackson in 1928.
Wanda died on 08.07.1942 aged 44 in Kensington.
2 Mildred Mary Gladys Keogh born 17.02.1899 in Swinford, Co Mayo. Mildred died
13.01.1922 aged 22 years at Guys Hospital, London late of Trentham and is buried at
Deansgrange.
3 Ita Mary Josephine Keogh born 15.01.1901 at Mullingar. Eta attended Aldersey Hall as a
agricultural student and lived at Crofton Farm, Hampshire. She died unmarried circa 1945
of tuberculosis at Fulham.
4 Una Mary Irene Keogh born 02.05.1903 at Rossbegh, Shrewsbury Road. She was educated
at the Benedictine Convent in Princethorpe, Warwickshire and later attended Alexandra
College. In 1921 she went to France to take an advanced course in commercial languages.
She was a member of the Helena Club in London (a club which originally was founded in
1916 for serving and former lady officers of the Armed Forces in WW1). Oonah joined Joseph
Keogh & Co Stockbroking firm (her father's firm). She applied to be a stockbroker in May
1925 (an application by the widow of D S Bolger, stockbroker was refused 20 years previously).
Oonah became the first Irish Woman stockbroker on 28.05.1925 but left her father's firm in
1933. She married Bayan Ivan Giltsoff, on 11.11.1933 at the Sacred Heart Church, Fareham,
Hants, England. Bayan was an artist and sculptor, with an interest in construction who had
been born in Russia. They moved to Taunton, Somerset, where they set up a construction
business, building Tudor style homes and had three children. Una of Taunton in Somerset
took the Hibernian Bank to court in 1943 but lost her case. The couple moved to Ireland in
1947 and bought a 30 acre site with an old labourer’s cottage in Kilquade. They renovated
the cottage and built 16 cottages on the site by 1951. These 'designed to order cottages' were
called Dingley Dell, but known colloquially as the 'Russian Village'. Later Bayan designed
houses on Eglinton Road and acted as an interior designer to shops and nightclubs.
5 Genevieve Mary Florence Keogh born 03.06.1905 at Shrewsbury Road, Dublin died on
28.08.1926 aged 21 years at Crofton Farm in Fareham, Hampshire accidentally shot by her
brother Doyne who was aged 17 at that time.
6 James Dermot Doyne Keogh born 16.06.1906 and died 25.11.1906 aged 5 months at
Shrewsbury Road. He is buried at Deansgrange.
7 Elveyn Mary Winifred Keogh born 01.05.1908 at Shrewsbury Road. Eveleen died unmarried
on 26.06.1932 of tuberculosis at St Leonards-on-Sea.
8 Arthur Joseph Doyne Keogh born 11.07.1909 in Dublin married Sheila Elizabeth McCann at
at St Michael's Church, Dun Laoghaire on 20.08.1938. Sheila was the daughter of the late
Mathew McCann of Ballincrad, Co Meath and Marjorie Gernon of 14 Mellifont Ave, Kingstown.
9 Macrina Mary Thais Keogh born 08.08.1911 at Shrewsbury Road married William Troup Shaw
Cargill on 08.03.1938 in India. She died at Morehampton Road in 1962 and buried at
Deansgrange.
10 Diedre Mary Clotilde Keogh born 17.12.1914 at Trentham, Stillorgan. She married David Stevens
Powell on 03.07.1940 at St Edmund's Church, Godalming. David was a 2nd lieutenant in the Royal
Artillery and the son of A Marriott Powell of Pinner.
